Chapter 34: Closer

Chapter 34: Closer

Doran’s friends were still here and it looked like Doran had made nearly a whole roast dinner apart from a few vegetables. They were sat at the table and so Ky and I joined them. There wasn’t much conversation between either them or us and I suddenly coiled into my awkwardness. Ky didn’t look like he was bothered at all and it intrigued me. He looked at me and I looked at him and then Doran caught my eye and I had to fight against my facial muscles to stop smirking, smiling or even showing any embarrassment. It was a lot of hard work and I couldn’t wait until I was finished eating to go back upstairs and hide away from the world for a couple of days. That did not come soon enough.

Ky and I were now back in my room. He had beaten me to lie on my bed first and since he had laid, stretched out, on his back. I had no choice but to straddle him over his thighs. I did not do it for any sexual reaction. He sat up and shuffled backwards so his back was to the wall which gave a slightly bigger gap between him and me. I smiled when he did it as it meant he wasn’t going to take any advantage of me.

‘What was that about downstairs?’ I looked at him confused. ‘You looked uncomfortable.’

I had forgotten how easily he could read me. ‘Oh, I just felt a little awkward. It wasn’t you. Doran sort of looked at me with that weird father smile.’ I started blushing and covered my cheeks with my hands.

‘Hey, come here.’ He took my hands and leant to kiss my lips for a brief second. ‘He just cares about you. I can tell.’ His eyes looked down to the floor and I remembered what I knew of his dad.

I turned my body and sat with my back to the wall the bed was parallel with. My legs were now over his but my hands remained in his. ‘Ky?’

‘Hmm?’ Then I knew he was really upset though he was hiding it.

‘You can talk to me about anything.’

‘I don’t want to put my worries on you,’ he said openly.

As he usually did with me, I leant over and kissed his cheek affectionately. ‘Isn’t that the point of being in a relationship? You share each other’s problems.’

‘Is that what we have then?’ he asked. I smiled and kissed his cheek again but he turned his head and I caught his lips. Taking his hands from mine, he put them around my chest one more time and pulled me back over his legs. ‘I take that as a yes. Can I tell you something?’

‘That depends what it is,’ I joked.

‘Hmm.’ I put my forehead to his and looked him in the eyes. ‘You are very pretty, Carly. And now you’re blushing again,’ he pointed out, stroking a hand along my cheek. ‘You seem to do that a lot.’

‘Only because I’m with you, Ky.’

‘So it’s my fault?’ He chuckled and I along with him. ‘Can I kiss you again?’

‘You don’t have to ask me that?’

‘I just don’t want to offend you by making too many spontaneous moves.’

‘Don’t be ridiculous. I wouldn’t have sat with you when we got back if I didn’t want you to make any moves.’ This time I made the move and kissed him rather more strongly than I had anticipated. I pushed my lips to his hard enough that his head banged against the wall.

‘Ow,’ he mumbled under my lips.

‘Oops, sorry,’ I quickly apologised. To speak, I had stopped kissing him and he quickly pulled me back within reach. My heart skipped a few beats and I took a really big breath as he held me close to him. ‘Hmm, Ky?’ I pushed my hand to his shoulder to try and push him away again.

He let me go. ‘Sorry. Too much?’

‘Yeh, a little. Can we slow down just a little bit?’

With a sweet peck on the nose, he dropped his hands to his sides. ‘I understand. Are you still alright with me sharing your bed?’

Now he was being silly. I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I stood up. I went to close to curtains as I answered him. ‘I haven’t kicked you out yet so yeh, I’m alright with it.’ With the curtains shut, I went around my room to lock the door and then blow out the candles. The room went suddenly pitch black. There was a rustling from where Ky sat; it sounded more than just him getting into my bed. ‘What are you doing?’

‘I don’t like to sleep with most of my clothes on.’ I noted the word ‘most’ and assumed he wouldn’t strip all of his lower garments off. ‘How do you want to share the space?’ he asked, sounding very considerate.

I had not thought about that and slowly crept my way back to the bedside. ‘Erm, just see how it goes I guess.’ My eyesight began to adjust and I saw his silhouette with the sheets over him. He lay on his side as before which meant I could easily slip in. I brought my hands up so they rested between him and me and found they touched his chest; I knew he wouldn’t care or mind. With a little more confidence in myself, I shuffled so I was more comfortable and purposefully placed my hands on his shoulders.

Ky didn’t say or word or even mumble. One arm slipped under my waist and the other over my chest. ‘Good night,’ he whispered to me. I simply smiled to myself and reached my head to put it under his chin.

I was a little put out when I opened my eyes the next morning. I had forgotten Ky had been with me and I was slightly surprised until my brain woke up. When I had woken up, rather early so I saw from the dim light through my curtains, I noticed Ky was still fast asleep. His arms were still loosely around me and I tried to slip out of them without waking him up. I did not succeed.

His eyes fluttered open and he yawned rather loudly with a shake of his head. ‘Good morning.’

I soon gave up on leaving the warmth of the bed and his arms. ‘Morning. Did you sleep well?’

‘Yes. Did I wake you up at all?’ he asked, having told me he was a shuffler.

‘No, you didn’t. I don’t think you hardly moved to be honest.’ I hadn’t been woken up once by him.

‘That’s good. Did you want to get up?’ He began to take his arms from around me.

As soon as he tried, I pressed myself back against him. ‘I like being warm in the morning,’ I said and screwed my face up when I realised he could twist that.

Even if he had, he didn’t chuckle or say anything. ‘Then don’t get up. I will happily stay here with you as long as you want.’

Now it was light, I could see his body under my hands. The sheets only revealed down to his lower ribs. I only glanced in a thoughtful manner so he might not notice so much. I knew Ky wasn’t the most muscular guy around but he was well toned and muscular enough for me. None of that would have mattered if his personality was any different from the way he was. I liked him so much, I reasoned, because his sense of humour was so similar to my own and he understood my thinking. ‘I really like you, Ky,’ I sort of blurted out.

‘That’s nice of you to say finally. How long do you want to stay here then?’

‘Until I feel like we’re being too lazy,’ I answered. ‘Or until you want to get up, maybe.’

‘That won’t be anytime soon then,’ he replied.
