Christmas Teddy Bear

Every child has that one teddy that they love and cherish for years, for Emily, this was a little white jointed teddybear, it had a red and white scarf and wore a little jumper with Merry Christmas on the chest, it also had white trim on the collar, sleeves and the bottom. Emily took this bear everywhere with her, she took it on holiday, camping and even to the toilet with her. Edgar was his name, his fur started to become dirty and he lost his clean-looking fur and appearance, but one day Emily left her teddybear at a hotel in Lapland, a hotel that had a connection to Santa Claus himself. They didn't have just any old Santa Claus coming down to visit the children, it was Santa himself.

Emily only realised she had left Edgar behind once she had already clambered into the back of her parent's car. Distraught. She cried and wailed but her father refused to turn back, they were too far by this point but both parents knew how much Edgar meant to their little girl, her cries broke their hearts and they wanted to do all they could for her. The moment she got home she tried to snuggle with her other teddy bears trying to fill the hole that Edgar left, however, not a single teddy would do. She needed and wanted Edgar.

Just as Santa was about to leave for the North Pole to deliver his presents, he noticed the lonely teddy bear sitting on the sleigh where he had his picture taken with Emily and her family. He recognised who the bear belonged to immediately. "I'll get you home little fella," he said gently picking up the bear and cradling it in his arms. "But first, I'll take you back to the North Pole and fix you up, I can tell you've been well loved and I promised I will reunite you with Emily!" As the sun rose over the mortal hemisphere Santa Claus returned to the North Pole with the new arrival, tired. He stepped through the small Christmas cottage bear still in hand.

"Who's your new friend?" Mrs. Claus asked.

"Emily Mandrows left it behind on the sleigh, hopefully, you can help me make him look brand new before I return him?" Santa responds.

"Of course, I will start with a bath. It's sad to see him hiding his beautiful fur under all this muck and dirt!" She said gently taking the bear, holding him like a doll as if frightened he was going to break. She took him up to their special bathtub which was only reserved for the most important toys, she washed his white fur clean and knitted him a new little jumper with Merry Christmas on the belly.  She even put a piece of soft holly and berries on his left ear. "What do you think?"  She showed the completely transformed bear to her husband.

"Like the day he was given to her," Santa smiled and walked out to his sleigh and placed the bear in a red and white box tied off with a red and gold ribbon. By midnight Santa was in the human realm, his sleigh weighed down by many toys for boys and girls, but his first stop was the most important, Emily Mandrows house. He slipped down the chimney, using his magic to make it bigger and leapt out over the logs. He ate the cookie, drank the milk and stuffed the carrot into his pocket for the reindeer. He placed the present containing Edgar onto the couch and left.

In the morning Emily skipped down the stairs with a smile on her face, she rubbed her tired eyes and walked into the living room. She walked over to the present on the couch which was addressed to her. Her parents appeared in the doorway. "What's that?" Her father asked as she undid the ribbon and slipped the top off.

"It's Edgar!" she shrieked, both of her parents looked at each other in confusion, "he's home!" she picked up Edgar and held him tightly to her chest.

"Who was the present from?" Her mother asked this time.

"Santa, he bought Edgar home to me!" she says. Both her parents look up at the sky.

"What a Christmas miracle!" her father exclaims.
