Christmas Lights

Her father went through all the boxes in the attic and the garage pulling out all the Christmas lights that were there. There were string lights, reindeer, Santa Claus and Snowmen. He looked at his daughter, "I think we have more than enough don't you?" He asks smiling down at her.

"Yes Daddy," she says looking up and smiling at her dad, this was their favourite thing to do together during the Christmas period, "we'll have it looking like Santas Grotto in no time."

"Yay!" she smiles.

"Where should we start?" He asks her, "Outside? The lawn? The roof?"

"Erm, the roof?" She says.

"Well, you're going to have to be brave and hold Daddy's ladder for him," he says and gently kisses her head as he pulls the ladder out of the garage.  Before the snow lays he sets up the ladder on the front of the house and starts to place the lights around the front, making sure his daughter holds the ladder tightly. "You okay little one?" he asked

"Yeah," she answered back.

"Good," he said as he placed the lights on the roof, nailing them into place. He did this the whole way around the roof. He was a perfectionist and made sure it all hung perfectly. He placed lights around the windows, and a few on the walls of the houses,  he placed two snowflakes on either side of the walls. Before placing more lights around the windows on the ground floor. He then blew up two inflatables, one a reindeer and the other a tall Santa Claus. He wrapped red and white tinsel around the columns of the porch and then wrapped white lights around the tinsel too. His daughter handed him a few red bows that he hung above the windows, doors and porch frames. He then started up the fake snow fan which sprayed out all over the house and the front lawn. His daughter smiled and danced around in the snow. Her father chuckled watching her enjoy herself. "Your mother is going to kill me with all the fake snow on your shoes." His daughter doesn't care and keeps playing in the fake snow.

Once it was deep enough, he started placing the candy cane lights to mark the path and driveway up to the house, they twinkled and flashed. After that, he started placing out the large rocking horse that glowed a warm yellow and rocked on the fake snow, the mechanism squeaking as it did. On the other side, he set up the snowman that rose up and down out of a chimney, it flickered as it did. Next to that was the igloo with polar bear and penguin lights creating a little winter scene, on the other side his little girl was setting up her unicorn lights and her large white wolf light.

"Looking good sweat pea," he said watching her, "you take after me when decorating." She beams a smile back at her father. He then pushed a large Santa sledge out and attached the light-up deer, they glowed and their harnesses were red and gold, the finishing touch was the light-up Santa figure. Her father hit the switch, and the whole house and garden light up.

"Beautiful!" His daughter blurted out.

"Glad you love it," he said picking his daughter up and placing her onto his shoulders to admire the lights properly.
