Dec 16th; If You Just Believe
I Do not own any of the characters or places mentioned, I am just having a bit of fun with them for a little while!
This story was written in correlation with MagicofNarnia's posted prompt list, which also does not belong to me.
Dedicated to my very special friend, hyuka-rose, who is my first and only follower! I decided that I wanted to show you what you mean to me, and how very special you are! Thanks for your friendship, and your encouragement, and never forget how unique and amazing you are, inside an out!
Takes place after The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.
Alex age, 18
Susan age, 20
It was a week before Christmas when Susan answered the door of her flat in response to his knock, and she smiled cordially him saying, "Hello there, Alex. I didn't expect to see you today."
He faked a smile and replied, "Well, everyone else has something to do, so I decided to come see you."
"Sorry, but I have a party to get to, don't have time to talk, Alex."
"Well, I thought you might, but I was hoping that we could atleast, while you got ready to leave?"
She looking at him, and her face softened just the slightest bit. Than Alex could have sworn he glimpsed Queen Susan, his friend and surrogate older sister, under Susan Pevensie's mask.
"Well, ok, I guess I do have time for that." She amended.
After inviting him in and changing into her party dress, she reappeared from her room, wearing a light blue dress with white polka-dots, and white high-heels.
He smiled, still amazed at how really pretty she was.
She seemed genuinely surprised at his reaction, asking, "What is it, Alex?"
"I was just thinking how stunning you look."
Susan blushed and asked, "What about the makeup?"
He didn't miss the coldness in her voice when she spoke, but he pretended he didn't notice.
"You'll still look beautiful."
"I wish Peter and Lucy Would see it that way." She said unhappily.
"Well, just think of it this way, Susan; all three of you have very strong beliefs. It's difficult to disregard them simply because someone else doesn't agree.
"And why don't you? I know you don't approve of my life choices, so why are you still trying to be my little brother?" She said this last part in a choked voice, as if trying to hold back tears.
"Because I know why you do it Susan. And despite my different opinions on the way we should live our lives, I understand how you feel, because I felt like that once too. There was a time I wanted something that wasn't mine and a life that couldn't be had. I attached my self worth to a title, a reputation, and job. Without it, I was lost, so I searched for a replacement but in the wrong way.
"What happened?" Susan asked hesitantly.
"I stopped trying."
"That's it?" She said incredulously. "How could it be that simple?"
"Susan, things are only as complicated as you make them. If you put your self worth into dresses, makeup, and parties, then your self esteem will be low because those things really don't mean much, in the grand scheme of things."
"Well what should I put my self worth in, Alex? A God that can supposedly save us from our sins? Or maybe because he came on Christmas to save us?"
"Well, I know I do, but we didn't always have him like we do in this world, and we were fine. You may disagree with Peter and Lucy, and they with you, but it's only because they love you."
"They sure do have a funny way of showing it." Susan replied with a snort.
"Edmund doesn't do that, and neither do I. We don't love you because your beautiful, we love you for who you are and there's no reason to think you have to do something special to be loved. Peter and Lucy love you so much, that they won't stop trying to convince you. If they didn't love you, they would have given up already, and so would the rest of us."
Susan looked at me, and I could tell she was about tell me to be quiet, so I pushed on, with one last try.
"You're special, Susan, you've always been special, and there's no need to wish for something you already have; love and self worth, and you'll have it if you just believe."
She told me to be quiet then, but I knew that maybe one day she would listen.
Next year...........
Susan did remember what Alex had told her, but only after she could no longer speak to him.
Even so, the love he had shown her, allowed Susan Pevensie to finally find herself, but only when she really believed.
