VIII. On the Seventh Day of Christmas
December 20th, 2016
Singapore
6:00 AM
"I never agreed to this!" Singapore yelled on the roof of Dreamz's apartment building, the wind blowing his nearly black hair up out of his face.
"You agreed to this when you gave my friend a concussion for Christmas." Dreamz stated as she peered towards the ground intently. "Now be quiet, they'll be here any minute."
"Do you have any clue who it is?" Ryan asked, begrudgingly taking a seat next to her. The clouds rolled in the dark sky above, threatening more storms.
"Well, I ruled out SASS completely. That's the people who black mail the countries and the secret mortals like me to dress up funny and do horrible things for their entertainment. I'm positive there's at least one mortal in that group, and they can't exactly afford to fly over to Singapore; the closest one lives north across the South China Sea in Hong Kong. None of them are doing it. I'm starting to rule out Cooper and Jett... But I mean, this is something Jett would do, and you can't let Cooper's "innocence" fool you." Dreamz rambled, looking at her hands, her fists clenched. "Whoever it is, I'll kill them."
"Could it be that guy la?" Ryan asked, and Dreamz's eyes snapped up. A guy dressed in all black was approaching the building. His face wasn't visible, and he was moving ridiculously slow...
Like he was finding the perfect spot to put the damn birds.
"HEY!" Dreamz screamed, jumping up and lurching forward.
"Whoa!" Ryan yelled in surprise, grabbing Dreamz's wrist to keep her from falling off the roof. "Are you crazy?"
"It's them!" She yelled, taking off to the stairway and racing down the flights til she was on the ground. The person in black looked up just in time to see Dreamz barreling towards them, before she tackled them to the ground.
"You chose the wrong Aussie to mess with today!" She screamed, ripping off his hat and clenching a fist, prepared to pound his face in.
She paused, however, when she saw New Zealand flushed face of horror.
"Please don't hit me. I swear whatever it is, it wasn't me." He stated breathlessly, his soft green eyes tired and wore out.
"You- you're giving the presents?" Dreamz demanded, grabbing him by the collar and yanking him up so they were face to face.
"No! I wasn't giving you a present until the big Christmas party!" New Zealand stuttered.
Dreamz blinked. "Huh?"
"E-every year, America throws a huge Christmas party on New Years Eve. Everyone's usually invited except for Russia, China, Cuba, and Iran. At the last world meeting, he said it was gonna be much smaller scale, but he told me that since I'm family, I'll be invited." Cooper explained. "I do have a present for you, but I wasn't giving it to you until the party!"
"So, you're not the one sending me the 12 days of Christmas?" Dreamz's face fell.
"No, I came to ask why in the world you keep sending birds to my house." New Zealand explained.
Dreamz stood up, stilling eyeing him suspiciously. "Then why in the world are you wearing all this heavy clothing, like you're hiding and being all secretive?"
"It's windy in Wellington, and it's a bit cooler there this time of year- feels like 12 degrees some mornings. I forgot to change my clothes before I came to Singapore." He explained. Dreamz looked at his face and realized that was likely why it looked so flushed and hot at the moment; his clothes were for cooler weather and it was currently climbing to 32 outside.
"You're a moron." She grumbled. "I keep sending birds because someone keeps leaving me a bunch of birds. They're doing the 12 days of Christmas and I can't keep thirty something birds at my house; my parents would not approve."
"Who keeps sending something like that?" Cooper raised a brow as Dreamz helped him to his feet.
"I have no clue- that's what me and Ryan are trying to figure out."
"Ryan? Like, as in Singapore?"
"Yeah. It was John, but Ryan gave him a concussion."
"... I should not leave you unsupervised."
"Dreamz!" Ryan's voice called behind her, and the Troubled Duo turned to the young country. Between them and Ryan was another delivery or birds, complete with a kitty pool where seven swans splashed around, screeching and flapping their wings.
"HOW THE HELL DO WE NOT SEE THIS HAPPENING!" Dreamz screamed, causing the bystanders passing by to switch from staring at the drove of birds to the brunette.
Cooper walked over and picked up the letter attached to the pear tree. "On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five golden rings. Four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a Partridge in a pear tree." He looked up from the note. "This person is insane."
"I KNOW!"
