-Chapter 3-

| December 2nd, 2023. |

I rubbed my eyes as I sat up at on my bed. "What time is it?" I said to myself in a sleepy tone. My room looked darker than before, and I saw no sight of a clock. I'm guessing that it might still be late due to how dark it is. I laid back down on my bed, but as soon as I did that, I heard someone calling my name, repeating.

I looked over to the distance and saw someone sitting down with their back turned to me. "Ella." They called out once again. I started to freak out as they were calling my name.

"What do you want?!" I yelled at them.

"Ella." They said once again.

"What?!"

They stayed quiet for a while. A few seconds later, they said something, "Come here." Fear rose inside of me as they said that; I didn't say anything nor move. "I said come here." They stated once again. I slowly came off of my bed and walked up to them. They were sitting on the ground while hugging their knees. As I walked up to them, they didn't say anything nor look at me. I slowly walked up to them and crouched down beside them, slowly. I looked at them, and they looked familiar. Wait a minute, they look like... Ezra.

"E-Ezra?" I whispered, but loud enough so they could hear.

"Look what you've done!" he shouted while looking at me.

"I-I did something?!" I said back, shocked.

"YES!" he screamed back at me.

"No, I did not!"

"YES, YOU DID!" he said, but this time he was repeating it. It was like a traumatizing echo in my ears; all I could do was cover my ears.

COUGH, COUGH!

I quickly sat up on my bed and looked at my surroundings. I could see the sunshine through the curtains at my window. I sighed in relief, "It was just a dream." I looked at my clock located on my desk, and it was 7:45 am.

I was still traumatized by the dream I had, hoping it wasn't a prophetic dream. I slowly got off my bed and walked over to my bathroom and brushed my teeth. It seemed a bit early, I'm guessing that my parents are still not awake yet. I walked down the hallway and slowly opened my parents room door just to see them sitting on the bed and talking, but they stopped talking and turned their attention towards me.

"Why are you up so early?" Mom asked me.

"Oh, uhm I don't know. When are we going to see Ezra?" I said back to her.

"At 10 am we'll be able to see him."

I nodded as Mom said that and walked out of the room. I couldn't wait to see Ezra, not even a minute. I guess patience is really testing me today.

~***~

It was 9:30, and Mom, Dad, and I already had gotten ready to go to the hospital. I sat on a chair by the door as I was putting my shoes on. Dad looked at me and smiled, "It's going to be okay." he said quietly to me, I smiled back. I opened the door and sat in the back seat of the car while my parents were going into the passenger seats.

As usual, my parents talked throughout the car ride while I kept silent. I always used to talk to Ezra while we were inside of the car, but it feels weird that he's not in the car next to me. I kept glancing at the part of the car where he usually sat, but every time I looked there, it would give sad thoughts of Ezra not being there. I sighed to that thought and continued to look out the window for the whole drive to the hospital.

We finally arrived at our destination as my parents began walking out of the car. I looked at the hospital as tears filled my eyes. The last time Ezra was in the hospital was about a year ago when he fainted due to his leukemia, but it was never as bad as to the point where he went in a coma. He would normally get nose bleeds now and then, but not as much.

I followed behind my parents as I walked into the hospital. I decided to sit on a chair at the front desk while my parents were talking to one of the receptionists. After they were done talking, we all walked to a room. As we walked to the room, all I could feal was fear. I loved Ezra, but I just hated to see him like this. Mom knocked on the door as the doctor opened it slowly as she knocked.

"Hello!" The doctor began, "Are you Ezra's mom?"

My mom nodded her head, "Yes, I am Ezra's mother."

"Alright, we need to talk to you for a bit." The doctor said as she looked down at her paper.

"Oh, uh, alright." Mom said, "Can my daughter wait inside of Ezra's room?"

"Of course."

"Okay." Mom turned her attention towards me, "We'll be right back." She reassured me as her and Dad walked away with the doctor.

I slowly walked into Ezra's room. It was as if I couldn't look at him, I never wanted to see Ezra in this position. I turned my face to the white walls on the right side of the room just to see Ezra laying on a medical bed. I felt tears in my eyes as I tried to hold it back as I saw him. "E-Ezra..." I said, shakingly while looking at him. He didn't respond back when I said that; I just decided to walk closer to him. After, I made it right beside him. His eyes were closed shut while I looked at him. I felt more tears come down from my eyes as I looked at Ezra. I tried to quickly wipe them away from my face as they came down hoping that no one would see them.

He was in a coma. That was the one thing I couldn't comprehend. The whole house was different without Ezra, it was like it wasn't even my house. We both always used to talk to each other before we went to bed, and spent the weekends together, but now it's Saturday and we haven't even talked to each other once. I kept asking myself this one question, why did he have to go in a coma?
