-Chapter 2-

"She's waking up!" I heard a voice say. I rubbed my eyes as I was getting up. I looked at my surroundings and it seemed like a hospital room. I felt something on my face, and I looked down at it, it was a breathing mask. I screamed, but you could barely hear it due to the breathing mask. I took it off of me, but the doctor put it back on me. "Just rest." A doctor said to me as I laid back down.

"Where am I?" I thought to myself. The last thing I remembered was being outside next to Elena, and... calling my mom. Wait a minute, my mom said to me that Ezra was in the hospital. I got up again and took the breathing mask off my face once again.

"Miss," The doctor began, "You need to rest right now. Your parents are coming here soon."

"Where's my brother?!" I yelled, "I need to know where he is!" I felt tears fall down from my face.

"May I ask what's his name?"

"Ezra, his name is Ezra!"

I saw the doctor walk over to her desk and look at a paper. "He's in room 1.85. Do you know what happened to him? I'm unaware of what happened since I'm not his doctor."

"I-I don't know!" I began, "My mom just said he was in the hospital, and I think that's why I fainted, yeah, that is the reason why!"

"Oh my, I just can't imagine how your parents might feel about having both of their kids in the hospital!"

"I can't imagine that either... I'm fine, so can I please go to my brother's room, please?"

"I'm sorry, but no one can. You'll have to wait until your parents arrive here in order for you to go."

I looked away from the doctor as I laid back in the bed, but this time, I did not put the breathing mask back on.

"But can't you just make one exception! -"

"Ella," The doctor said interrupting me, "I can't, it's a rule."

I rolled my eyes as the doctor said that. I needed to see Ezra right now. After I did that, my parents walked into the room. The doctor smiled at them and greeted them as my parents did the same thing as well.

"Mi Hija!" My mom said in shock, "What happened?"

"I don't know, I think I fainted when you said that Ezra was in the hospital." I said back to my mom, "Where's Ezra?"

"Don't worry, your father and I will be seeing him, but you'll need to stay here and rest." My mom said giving me a small smile.

"NO!" I shouted, "I'm fine, just let me see him!"

"Ella, I know how hard this might be, but you just fainted. I take those things seriously."

"Then what happened to him!" I shouted in tears.

Mom looked at Dad with scared eyes then looked back to me, "You need to rest right now; that's all you need to be worrying about."

"Mom, please just tell me."

My mom sighed as she looked down then looked back up at me. "He's in a coma. He's been waking up a few times, but sometime after, he goes back in the coma. The doctors think it's because of his leukemia, but don't worry, they're taking good care of him."

At that point, I could hardly breathe; it was as if my life stopped right in my eyes.

"Ella," Mom said as she came up to me and hugged me, "It's going to be okay, and I know that for a fact."

I felt more tears coming down from my face, "I want to talk to him, please!"

"You can talk to him tomorrow, just rest right now." Dad said to me.

"You get to leave when the doctor says it's okay to leave. We'll be waiting in the waiting room for you." My mom said with a sad smile as she walked out of the room.

The doctor looked at me with a reassuring smile as the left, "I know they're trying their best to help him." I smiled with tears in my eyes as I nodded.

What a horrible way to start December.

I laid back on the bed hoping to try my best to forget about the situation I was in. Hoping for everything to go back the way it was, and of course, hoping for Ezra to survive.

~***~

"Wake up, Ella." A familiar voice said to me. I blinked a couple times in a row just to see Mom standing there smiling.

I sat up as I was rubbing my eyes. Mom went over to the doctor that was in the room with me as she was talking to them. I slowly got off the bed as my mom was done talking to the doctor and we walked out of the room.

Mom did glance at me a couple of times, but none of us said a word as we walked to the front desk to see Dad there. Dad smiled as he stood up and started walking with us towards the exit door.

We all got into the car as we drove off. As Dad was driving, he was chatting with Mom, but I just kept silent the whole time; it was too much to comprehend. The sun had already set, so it was a dark drive home.

After, we arrived home. Dad held the door open for us as we walked in. I looked down as we walked in, trying not to cry.

I walked upstairs after some time and decided to go to bed. How can this day get any worse?! The house felt very different with Ezra not being here.

I sat down my chair as I buried my face into the desk. Soon after, I found myself crying. It was as if I couldn't stop. Ezra was like one of the best friends I could ever have! I was angry to the point that I started banging my hand on the desk while crying harder, and louder.

"Ella!" I heard someone call from outside of my door. I stopped banging my hand on the desk at that point. "Your school just called me." I began to wipe my tears and went up to the door and opened it.

"Your school said to me that there will be no school for the rest of the week due to the lockdown." Mom said, but after, a smile grew on her face, "That means you'll be able to see Ezra more."

A small smile grew on my face when she said that. "We'll be seeing him tomorrow," Mom began, "So go to bed so you won't be tired to see him." I nodded in response since I didn't feel like talking. The hardest part was that I had to sleep, and I'm not sure how I could sleep knowing that something happened to Ezra.

Mom left the room soon after, and I decided to get ready for bed. I brushed my teeth and got my pajamas from the dresser as I put them on. After, I got in my bed hoping that tomorrow would be a good day.

And, of course, hoping that Ezra would survive.
