Logan smiled, glancing up from what he was doing to look over at where Virgil stood on a ladder in front of his house. His cheeks and nose were a pale pink from being out in the cold so long, and when he laughed at a joke that the other made his breath appeared in front of him. It had already gotten a lot colder, and the days until Christmas came and went faster and faster.

Logan turned back to the decoration he had been setting up, finishing quickly. He stepped away from it and shoved his hands into the pockets of his dark blue sweater, deciding to take a very short break just so his fingers wouldn't go numb from the cold. He stepped closer to where Virgil was still on the ladder, looking up at his friend. Virgil was only concentrated on the lights in front of him, not noticing Logan beside of him. Logan watched him narrow his eyes frustratedly when the lights didn't stay where he had tried to attach them, poking his tongue out as he focused, and smiled to himself.

Logan really did enjoy being around Virgil. He wasn't sure why exactly. They hadn't known each other for long, and Logan didn't usually get very close to other people unless he had known them for a while. It took him at least a year to get used to Patton, but with Virgil it just felt different. He didn't know why. He just felt comfortable around him. Like he could be himself.

"Why are you staring at me?" Virgil asked, raising an eyebrow at Logan.

Logan jumped. He hadn't even seen Virgil turn to look at him. He could tell his face had flushed a darker red, and was suddenly thankful for the cold to blame it on. "My apologies. I simply got distracted."

"You don't have to apologize." Virgil shrugged, finally getting the lights to stay in place. He leaned back a little to admire his work, seeming satisfied. "There, I'm finally do-"

Virgil took a step backwards, trying to step into the next step of the ladder to get down. He missed the step, however, letting out a yelp in the middle of his sentence as he started to fall backwards. Logan jumped in surprise as he realized what was happening, quickly stepping closer to Virgil to attempt to catch him.

Surprisingly, Logan did manage to grab onto Virgil before he could fall and hurt himself. He had one hand supporting his back, the other behind his knees, and when he caught him he nearly came crashing down himself. Somehow, though, he managed to stay upright, gripping tightly onto Virgil and freezing as his mind caught up with what had just happened. Virgil stared up at Logan as Logan stared right back, eyes wide and minds racing. Neither of them were really sure how this had worked out for them.

A few beats of silence followed, and then it was broken by the sound of Virgil's quiet, nervous giggling. He started to laugh a little louder as things finally seemed to set in, and Logan joined him in his laughter. He very slowly set Virgil down on the ground, arms lingering around him for only a moment to be sure he had his balance.

"I should probably avoid the ladder after this," Virgil commented, still laughing softly. He held a hand to his chest, feeling his heart beating quickly, and his breathing labored. He had hoped he could laugh the incident off, but he couldn't help thinking of what could have happened had Logan not been there.

"That would probably be a good idea." Logan agreed, smiling over at Virgil. Virgil gave a half-hearted grin back as his anxious thoughts worsened. Logan seemed to notice the change. "Are you alright?"

"I-I'm fine," Virgil nods, but he knows it's unconvincing. "My heart is beating ridiculously fast, but-but I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" Logan pressed, concerned for his friend. Virgil drew in a shaky breath, taking too long to answer. Logan frowned, and realized that Virgil seemed to be panicking. "Hey, you are alright. You didn't get injured. Remember to breathe, Virgil."

Virgil nodded quickly, seeming to want them to move on from talking about him but Logan didn't. He could tell he was still having a hard time breathing, so he tried to help by getting Virgil to follow along with a breathing exercise he had found some time ago that helped people with anxiety. He did this until Virgil seemed to calm down a lot more, his eyes falling closed as he started to breathe on his own. Logan waited patiently for Virgil to open his eyes and look at him.

"Thanks," Virgil mumbled when he finally felt like he could look at Logan without feeling embarrassed. He fidgeted with the sleeves of his black and purple hoodie awkwardly, glancing down at the ground. "How are you so good at dealing with anxiety like that..?"

"I've done a lot of research," Logan shrugged. He looked at Virgil, and nodded towards his house. "I think we should stop for the day. We've gotten quite a bit done, and you need a break. Would you like to go inside and possibly watch a movie, to distract yourself from this?"

"I... uh, yeah. That would be really nice." Virgil muttered, looking back up at Logan, who smiled at him. Logan nodded and headed inside, Virgil following behind. He didn't bother asking if Virgil wanted anything as he went into the kitchen-they were both cold from being outside for so long, and needed something to warm them up.

"Would you like to pick the movie?" Logan asked as he handed Virgil a mug. He grabbed the television remote off of the table beside of his couch, offering it to Virgil as he sat down with his own mug. Virgil accepted it after Logan insisting that he should pick, and started searching for something for them to watch.

"Have you had bad anxiety before?" Logan asked softly, curious. He had been watching Virgil as he looked for a movie, feeling concerned for him still. Virgil glanced at him, and nodded.

"Yeah like, literally all the time." Virgil admitted, shrugging his shoulders. "It's... well, I've kind of gotten used to it so it's not that bad. But being around big crowds of people make it worse, and also stupid things like falling off of ladders make me think that I almost died. It's annoying... but normal, for me."

"I'm sorry you have to go through that so often." Logan apologized even though it was not his fault.

"It's fine, and anyways.." Virgil looked over at Logan with a tiny, nervous grin. "Having nice and understanding friends really makes things easier. You've made me feel a lot better, so thanks Logan."

Logan smiled back softly, glad he had been able to do something to help. The two looked at each other for a few more silent moments before Virgil turned his head away, Logan catching his cheeks turning a darker shade of red but ignoring it. He followed Virgil's eyes back to the screen, where he had found a movie to watch.

Both of them were relaxed and happy as the movie Virgil chose began to play, sending glances in each other's directions every so often. They warmed up quickly inside, especially when Logan remembered the blankets he had behind the couch that he offered to Virgil. Soon enough the pair had nearly forgotten entirely about Virgil's fall, and his anxiety.

They felt calm and quiet, sitting together in Logan's living room. Perfectly content, and comfortable.
