~12~
Merry Christmas everyone!! I hope that you enjoy the final chapter of this book. There should be a bonus chapter up later today, but I'm hanging out with my family now so I need a while to finish it. Hope you all have an amazing Christmas!
Logan had been worried ever since Virgil had left that night.
He tried, but no matter what he couldn't get his mind off of what had happened between them. He knew it had to be obvious that he intended to kiss Virgil, and he really thought that was what Virgil was doing too. Logan never would have even tried if he didn't think Virgil wanted to. When he had pulled away Logan was both embarrassed, and worried about him. What had made him leave so suddenly like that? Why couldn't he even just talk to Logan about it?
If he had wanted to kiss him, then did that mean Logan's feelings were requited? Did Virgil feel the same as he did? If he did, then Logan hoped he could tell that Logan returned them. He had thought it was obvious, after all.
His mind had asked all of these questions and a billion more that night, while he was supposed to be sleeping. He didn't get nearly as much rest as he would have hoped, and when he had to get up that Christmas morning to go to Patton's party he felt even worse than when he had gone to bed. He actually had to go and face Virgil today. How would that go? Would they talk about it at all? Should Logan admit his own feelings? He continued to try and push these thoughts aside as he waited to go over to Patton's.
He would find out when he got there, he told himself.

Logan knocked on the door to Patton's house, stepping back and not waiting very long before the door was being pulled open. There were quite a few people who had already arrived, despite Logan being there pretty early.
"Hello, Patton." Logan greeted with a small smiled, Patton grinning back and greeting him as well. Logan glanced around the room quickly, then looked back to Patton nervously. "Have you seen Virgil yet?"
"I haven't seen him yet. I'm sure he'll be here in a little while, he's usually one of the last people to get to my parties." Patton responded with a shrug, and Logan nodded.
"I... have you spoken with him, at all? Last night or this morning?" Logan questioned, and Patton shook his head.
"No, why?" Patton asked, starting to feel a little suspicious. "Did something happen between you two?"
Logan didn't answer for a moment, cheeks turning red as he cleared his throat nervously. Patton immediately knew that something was going on, frowning at Logan and crossing his arms. "Did you do something?"
"What? No, I-I don't think it was just my fault... it is complicated." Logan shook his head, and sighed. "At least, I hope I did not cause this problem between us."
"What happened, Logan?" Patton asked, voice soft and comforting. He could tell it must really be bothering him.
"It doesn't matter." Logan said, and Patton decided it best to leave the issue alone. He offered him one last reassuring smile, telling him he was sure it would work out in the end and then switched topics quickly. Logan was thankful to talk about other things and get his mind off of what had happened last night.
Some time later, Patton had moved on to talk to other guests at the party. He had apologized to Logan a lot for that, but Logan understood. It was his party, and he had other friends. He would be fine on his own. He had chosen to stand by the wall, watching other people talking and hoping none would approach him. He didn't mind most of his neighbors, but he didn't really have any friends there either. It was simply awkward, talking to them as if they really knew each other.
Logan was too lost in his thoughts to notice when Virgil had shown up, and didn't realize he was standing beside of him until he spoke up.
"Hey," Virgil muttered quietly, causing Logan to finally look over at him. He seemed nervous to be around him again, and Logan felt the same way. He was also relieved; at least they were still talking.
"Hello, Virgil." Logan spoke quietly as well, flashing a tiny smile, hoping to help Virgil feel a little less uncomfortable around him. He wasn't going to bring any of it up unless Virgil wanted to. The last thing he wanted now was to upset him and potentially ruin the friendship the two of them had. He smiled the slightest bit wider when Virgil smiled back.
"So. Party's nice." Virgil commented, turning away from Logan to lean against the wall. Logan did the same, looking out at all of the people. It was a lot more crowded now than it had been when he first showed up.
"Patton's parties normally are." He agreed, and a silence fell over both of them. Logan didn't know what to say to carry on the conversation, and he still was worried about saying the wrong thing, so he let it stay silent.
"I'm sorry." Virgil said after a while, so quiet that Logan could hardly hear him over the chatter of other people. Logan knew what he was talking about immediately, and wasn't sure what to say.
When he turned to look over at him Virgil had his hoodie pulled tightly around him, slouching down to make himself smaller. He looked scared. Logan frowned, wanting to talk about it but knowing they didn't have very much time before Patton would be announcing the winner. "It... it's alright, Virgil. You have nothing to be sorry for."
Neither of them said anything else, standing beside of each other still. Soon enough Patton was heard over the rest of the crowd of people, calling for all of their attention, which they all gave. Logan and Virgil were definitely thankful for the distraction from the awkward silence between the two of them.
"Thank you all so much for coming!" Patton called to everyone, smiling widely. "I've made sure that everyone's who's here that isn't competing in the competition has voted on someone who is, and I've finally finished adding up all the votes!"
Everyone waited excitedly for him to carry on, a few people glancing back and Virgil and Logan, and others looking over to Roman. Patton paused only for a moment before he carried on.
"Of course, every single person competing this year has done an amazing job, as always! So, even if you don't win you should all be proud of the work that you've done, because you did an amazing job." He sent a look in Roman's direction as he said this, smiling over at him. "Now... two groups of decorators this year both had a lot of votes! Roman is one of the top two, and so are two other decorators who have both never competed before, Logan and Virgil!"
The rest of the party looked at Roman, who was standing proudly, smiling as he still felt sure that he would win. He was always in the top two, and he always ended up being the winner. A lot of the crowd were also looking in Logan and Virgil's direction, and Logan could tell that his friend was beginning to become a little anxious with all of the attention on him. He glanced down to where his hand hung by his side, clutching the bottom of his hoodie, and hesitantly reached out to take it. Virgil looked back up at him, surprised at the action, and slowly squeezed his hand back to show that he appreciated it.
"You all did an amazing job, but unfortunately there can only be one winner!" Patton called out, and paused briefly to cause more excitement over who would win the competition this year. "So, the group with the most votes, the winner of this years Christmas competition is... Virgil and Logan!"
Logan and Virgil both turned to look at each other, surprised and actually excited.
"We... actually did it. We won." Virgil muttered, and Logan smiled and nodded.
"We did." He said equally as quiet, and after a moment pulled Virgil into a hug. Virgil's arms went around him immediately, both pulling each other close as they completely took in what had just happened. They had actually done it! They had beaten Roman for once!
"Thank you, Virgil." Logan pulled away from the hug slightly, smiling at him and trying to ignore the figurative butterflies in his stomach at the small distance between them. "Without you, this wouldn't have been possible. I'm very glad that you decided to help me, and that we have grown so close."
"I-I'm glad, too." Virgil grinned back, his face red as he noticed their closeness as well and remembered the night before. He tried to think of something else to say, anything to say before he acted on what he really wanted to do. He couldn't think of anything, not when he was this close to Logan, and Logan couldn't think either. Virgil was pretty sure it was Logan who leaned in first, but neither of them really cared who initiated it because they were kissing, and it was embarrassing and awkward and amazing all at once, and they were just so happy that they couldn't possibly care about the consequences that may come from him.
The broke apart immediately at hearing the cheering from the crowd of people still around them, faces a dark red as they remembered where they still were. Both of them stood next to each other awkwardly, but smiled remained on both of their lips as they glanced between each other and the crowd of people. Soon enough, Roman appeared beside of them, helping to distract them from the fact that they had just shared their first kiss with each other in front of a large crowd in their best friends house.
"Congratulations, you two!" Roman grinned at the both of them, not just talking about them winning the competition. They were both surprised that he was come to congratulate them rather than complain, but they appreciated it.
"Thank you, Roman." Logan smiled at him, seeing Patton approaching them through the crowd, politely excusing himself as he moved past people to get to them. It didn't take him long at all to get to them, and once he did he threw his arms around both Logan and Virgil, hugging them tightly.
"Congratulations guys!" He said excitedly as he let go of them, grin just as wide as Roman's, although more genuine. He winked at them both a moment later, laughing softly. "I knew you two would make the perfect pair!"
They both felt their faces flush at that, glancing over at each other. Logan smiled over at Virgil awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. Virgil fiddled with the sleeves of his hoodie, returning the smile. Virgil stood the slightest bit closer to Logan, turning back to look at Patton while still wearing a small smile. "Thanks, Pat."
"I do hope you don't expect to win again next year, you know!" Roman changed the subject back to the competition, crossing his arms over his chest. "I am definitely going to beat you again next year."
"Really now? How do you plan to beat us next year?" Logan raised an eyebrow at Roman, who stammered for a moment, trying to find an answer.
"Well maybe I'll simply have to pair up with my neighbor!" He wrapped an arm around Patton's shoulders, pulling him close to him. He turned to look down at his friend, faces close. "You would help me win next year, right Patton? I think we could make a good pair too."
"O-Oh," Patton giggled nervously, face a dark red. "I mean, as long as the rest of our neighbors would be okay with me joining in my own competition, I don't see why not! I'd love to help you, Roman."
"There you have it!" Roman grinned triumphantly at Logan and Virgil. "I have a foolproof plan to defeat you both next Christmas, with the help of my dearest friend Patton!"
Logan and Virgil both laughed and rolled their eyes at him, carrying on with the playful conversation as the party continued on. For the remainder of their time at Patton's, neither of them left the others sides. Logan found himself holding Virgil's hand again for most of the night, both of them sharing looks between talking to the rest of the people at the party, and silently agreeing to discuss what had happened later on.
They both thought back on how far they each had come, originally only speaking to each other because of their disliking of their neighbor. They had gone from teammates, to friends, to, they both hoped, boyfriends. They spent the day with smiles on their faces, both knowing one thing for sure.
They were happy that they had decided to compete in this years Christmas competition.
