The Holy Spirit

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that us Christians have the spirit of God inside us. Just take a moment to think about that. I mean it must be important right? After all God gave it to us. John 16:7 says "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you". Basically, Jesus is saying that it is better for him to leave and for us to get his spirit than for him to stay and for us not to get his spirit. So there must be a reason for it.

There can be multiple names for the spirit like counselor, comforter, and helper. I truly find the spirit amazing because just in those 3 names alone the spirit can help us when we need it, it can comfort us in our time of need, and it can guide us. Romans 8:26 says "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words". When we are weak and we want to pray to Jesus whether for forgiveness or for repentance or just to talk to him a lot of times we do not know what to say. Sometimes we just need to let the spirit speak for us. After all God does know our hearts and it is his spirit living inside of us. When we do not know what to say, the spirit helps us out. Think of the spirit as your friend.

Sometimes when I feel the spirit it can be a joyful feeling just to know that Jesus is communicating with me but the spirit might not always be a good feeling. When I sin and do something wrong my spirit is grieved and I realize that I have done wrong. I don't often think about how Jesus sees every single thing we do. Some things we just like to keep private or not tell other people what we have done but whether you like it or not Jesus sees all. In the end though I am glad he sees everything because once we ask for forgiveness he will forgive us and I feel so much better after knowing that he has forgiven me.

Galatians 5:22-23 says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Taking the time and looking through all these words it is so amazing to see that these are the fruits of the spirit that we have inside us. I find it cool how people can just tell when you have the spirit dwelling inside of you and just to know that the spirit can also change people is amazing. This is the same spirit that Jesus had when he was on Earth and these are all words that describe Jesus. But do they describe you?
