God's Morality
Thanks to @GamingHumor for the idea of God's Morality! He has been reading my story and leaving amazing comments so thanks for that! Check out his stories as well because they are really good! This chapter is longer than the other chapters and I didn't use Bible verses as much. I wanted to just talk more about the story and about God. If you guys have any ideas please post in the comments below. I need some fresh ideas to post more so give me as many as you can, and I hope you guys enjoy the chapter.
So for this part I will be focusing on God's behavior in the OT. A lot of people think that the God in the OT is harsh but he is not. The God of the OT is the same God now. Since the very beginning God has shown his love and grace towards us. Genesis 1:31 says "And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day". God saw everything that he made and saw it was good, but God did not have to make us. He chose to out of his love and grace. Genesis 1:26 says "Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth". Not only were we made in God's image but we were made to rule over the animals as well.
Now a lot of the OT talks about God's chosen nation Israel. We can find many examples of his love and grace in there but also what they went through. Let's go back to Israel in Egypt (talked about in Exodus 1-12). Joseph currently had leadership but then a new king came to power. His name was Pharaoh. The king did not know Joseph but he hated the Israelites. There were too many of them and he wanted to get rid of them but the more he tried to get rid of them the more they multiplied. So eventually the Egyptians enslaved the Israelites and made them work hard. In the end, Pharaoh released the Israelites through the help of Moses and Arron. Now, this may seem harsh because God let it happen but this had to happen in order for God to use Israel. God also showed his love with Israel by multiplying them and letting them grow.
Later on, Israel had stopped believing in God (Numbers 14) and they even wished they would have died in Egypt. Numbers 14:11 says "How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the miraculous signs I have performed among them? I will strike them down with a plague and destroy them". Now that might seem kind of harsh but after all that God has done for them they should be grateful. So Moses and Arron begged hoping he wouldn't kill them and he didn't, but he does say that they will not see the promise land. Even here God shows his love. He could've killed them but he didn't. God made them wonder in the wilderness for 40 years where most of them died. The ones who remained faithful to him survived.
Even though these examples might sound harsh they are still good examples. It was Israel's fault for not putting their trust in God and then they grumbled against him after all he did for them. He delivered them from Egypt and he let them prosper and grow. I could go on and on with examples but I think I have proven my point. Israel did not have to go through that if they just put their trust in God. God is a loving God which is true but we can't expect him to never punish us for what we do wrong. This does not make him a mean God but a God who cares about us and knows what is best for us. Israel had consequences for what they did just like we have consequences for sinning. Everything that has happened was to make Israel into the nation that God wanted it to be and they had to go through stuff to get to that point.
