Chapter 2
I take in ragged, sharp breaths as my vision blurs. In that second, the world stops. The only sound I hear is my irregular heart beating; pain shooting through my chest.
In slow motion I see my mother running toward my father.
I freeze. Like everyone else, I'm unable to move and stop her. Her tiny body falls to her knees and shakes him.
The heart wrenching screams of our neighbors blur into the back ground along with, my bother, Gage's faint pleads for our mother to stop.
My father's mouth moves and his arms weakly motion her away. I see the vampire smile and as fast as light he speeds toward her.
The vampire snaps her neck easily with his bare hands. By the sound of bone cracking and breaking I know she is dead.
Digging his pearly, white teeth into her porcelain skin. She is gone for sure.
I never knew what it was like to loose someone.
I have only read about the pain that courses through your veins when someone you love died.
I've only heard about the queasy feeling in your stomach and the breaking of your heart.
I didn't know it would be this unbearable.
I felt my the color drain from my body as I see my mother's limp figure dangling from the vampires death grip. Her empty brown eyes wide still staring straight at me.
Chunks of my mother are flown about. Blood is all over the face of the vampire.
Its like he didn't care to chew up and spit out the woman who birthed and raised me.
Don't they have a heart?
I see my father stand and cradle his arm close to his body. He motions with his head for us to follow and we all run to him.
Looking back to see if the vampire was following us I notice he is gone.

After a while of jogging I stop to catch my breath. I inhale deeply, squeezing my eyes so tight I see stars, trying to calm the pain shooting through my chest.
"Are you okay?" My father asks placing his good arm on my shoulder. I wave him off and nod trying to smile. I look at his hand on my shoulder and see the blood covering his whole hand.
He must have noticed me staring because he snatched his hand away and continued walking down the empty street.
"Why is it so quiet?" Dustin asked grabbing my hand and giving it a good squeeze.
"Must have killed everyone already." Gage huffs and crosses his arms.
I sign looking up at all the tall buildings and noticing how empty and abandoned they look already.
"I think we should stay in here for the night. Its getting dark." Gage says walking toward an old building and turning a rusty doorknob.
"I looks kinda sketchy." Dustin says. I look up at him and follow his eyes to the graffiti on the wall.
"Got a better idea!?" Gage yells stalking toward Dustin and I.
"Hey, calm down. Thats enough drama for the day." I snap at Gage. He signs and apologies to Dustin.
We all silently walk inside the tall building and look around.
In the corner of my eye I see my dad wince in pain and clutch his arm.
I cautiously walk to him and lift his sleeve. The fabric peels off his skin like tape.
A chunk of his arm is missing and random bites cover his bicep.
"I'll go look for bandages." Gage says aimlessly walking on through the building.
Dad smiles and reassures me that he is alright. He wanders off and I'm left alone with Dustin.
He walks up to me and pulls me into his chest. His cologne takes over my senses and my body automatically relaxes.
"This feels like a dream." I whisper looking up at him and wrapping my arms around his neck.
"I can't even comprehend what happened back there." He said resting his forehead on mine. "I want you to stay away from your dad for a few days." He whispers.
My eyes shoot open and his green eyes are already starring back at me. "Why?" I ask pulling away and scrunching up my eyebrows.
"Lexi, he just got bit by a vampire and he is bleeding very quickly. Why he hasn't even died yet?" He asks in the softest tone he could muster.
"Thanks for looking out for me but I am not staying away from my own father!" I says scoffing and cross my arms turning away.
"Baby don't be that way."
I ignore him and wonder off to find my brother.
I can't believe he would tell me to stay away from my own father. Even if he was bit... It doesn't mean he will turn into a vampire... Does it?
Author's note
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I know it sucks but I had to update. I've had major writers block and with school back in session and everything thats been happening I've been alittle overwhelmed. I'll try to write weekly once I'm adjusted to everything again. I'll also try to write better and longer chapters. Constructive criticism is always appreciated!
