Chapter four: Defender, Holy Barrier!
Xaver and Clary were sparring like usual, but three things were different; one, Xaver was not attacking Clary as much, but more like making sure that he did not hurt her. Two, Clary was more careful with her movements and three, they had a audience. The tribe leaders right-wing bird, a young lad named Johnathan, was watching them fight; he would determine either of them would make it to train with the tribes warriors.
Xaver ducked from Clary's swing and elbowed her in the chest, causing her to stumble back; Xaver did not follow, but continued with a defensive stance, one that he had perfected over the years his ten year old body lean and well muscled, able to keep up the basic stance easily. Xaver was told before they started that he could not use his powers; he would be taken away to do only god knows what.
They continued to fight for about twenty minutes before Johnathan told them to stop. "I have seen enough; you can join" he told the children; this got excited smiles from them. "You two will start in the Flura division tomorrow; you will have opportunities to advance as you train and fight. Eduardo will be sure to meet you later on today; he wants to meet the newest editions personally" Johnathan told them; both of them nodded, still smiling though.
As Andreas flew away, Xaver let his body relax greatly as Lisa flew down to them, a joyful smile on her face with tears in her eyes. "Well done you two; you make me so proud! I... I can't believe that we are parting ways; I have seen you two grow up so much!" Lisa said with a small sob. Xaver felt a lump form in his throat as she wiped away her tears; she was pretty much a mother figure in Xavers eyes. "I will be sure to visit" Xaver told her before he embraced her, his own tears threatening; Clary did the same.
"I love you both; now go do me proud!" Lisa told them, a smile of a proud mother on her beak. Both of the children nodded before they left to tell their respective parents. Xaver flew hard and fast to his hollow, his excitement giving him the energy to burn. He screeched to a halt when he suddenly heard a feminine scream; something clicked in Xavers mind at this. "Clary!" Xaver yelled before he took off in the direction of the scream, his body a blur as he soared to his friend.
When Xaver saw what was happening, his eyes darkened to where they were almost black, so great was his anger. Three grown birds were beating on Clary, laughing to them selves at each of her cries for them to stop. Xaver screeched as he flew at one of the birds, his anger making him see red. The bird barely had enough time to turn around before Xaver elbowed him in the chest; the bird went stumbling back as Xaver turned to the other two birds, flames in his eyes as he glared at them. The birds could not do anything with the speeds that Xaver was moving; heck, they could barely blink!
Xavers only thoughts were to make them pay, and pay they did. Xaver was close to killing them before he heard Clary's pained sob; his eyes instantly turned back to their red color as he looked at Clary. Xaver quickly made his way to Clary; he was worried about her welfare, as she was bleeding on her beak and chest, her periwinkle blue feathers darkened with the scarlet liquid. "You okay?" Xaver asked her as he gently helped her up; Clary winced with pain as she wiped away some blood. "Xaver, look out!" Clary exclaimed, her eyes widening at what she saw behind him.
Time seemed to slow down as Xaver closed his eyes, his senses telling him that the birds were charging towards him from behind. Xaver, almost as if he has done it a thousand times, stretched out his wings and said one word in a language that he somehow knew what it meant, despite never having said it before. "Öpîce" Xaver chanted, but it sounded like he sang the simple word.
Xaver heard Clary gasp as a light brighter than the sun lit the back of his eyelids to a pure white. Xaver heard screaming as he opened his eyes; a ghost of a smile formed on his beak when realized it was the grown birds. Already knowing that they were flying away, Xaver gazed down at Clary with warm eyes, a flicker of surprise showing in them before a light voice told him that he healed her with his awakening.
"Who's awakening?" Xaver questioned the voice in his mind; Xaver has always been awake, so that confused his slightly. "Mine, young child. I am Dorsïn, protector of the innocent and pure. I am what you felt before you came to protect this child, and I dare say your friend" Dorsïn told Xaver within his mind; this made Xaver blush slightly as the light around them dissipated. Xaver asked the voice what the light was as the light faded. "You summoned a barrier, one that protected and healed you and your friend" Dorsïn told him before Xaver sensed that he left, but Xaver knew that the voice was still with him.
Xaver blinked before his mind came back into focus; from the looks of it, Clary asked him something. "Sorry, can you repeat that?" Xaver asked her. "I said why did you blush?" Clary repeated, but this time with a small smile. Xaver blushed deeper as he told her it was nothing; he felt it was the truth but deep down in his heart he knew he was lying.
If Xaver were to have been paying attention, he would have seen Clary's look of disappointment, but Clary hid it well with a teasing smirk. "If you say so" Clary said as she experimentally stretched her body; she sighed when she felt no pain or soreness.
"Can you bring your family to the Brazil Nut Grove? I have always wanted to meet them, especially your mom; she must be proud of you" Clary asked as she looked into Xavier's eyes, but she was surprised to see a deep sadness in them. "Should I have not asked?" Clary asked; Xaver looked away as tears threatened. "Its fine, its just... my mom is dead. She gave her life to bring me into this world" Xaver told her, his voice quivered before he let lose a sob, tears now falling freely. Clary gasped, clearly not expecting for Xaver to tell her that.
"I'm sorry; I did not know" Clary told Xaver, guilt lacing into her heart at the sight of her crying friend. She did the only two things she knew what to do in a situation such as this; she gave Xaver a hug, one that Xaver hugged her back as he cried onto her shoulder. Clary also hummed her favorite song, one that spoke of honoring the ones around and deceased.
(The song is called Bye Bye by Mariah Carey; the song is sweet but really sad)
When Clary was done, she moved back and saw that Xaver was no longer crying, but was smiling. "Thank you, and you are right, I will never say bye; my mom is always with me in my heart" Xaver told her before he gave her another hug. When they parted, Xaver told her that he and his father would meet her family there. "Okay. See you then" Clary told him before both of them parted ways, both of them with lighter spirits after there emotional moment.
They both stopped however when they saw the ones who would change Xavers life.
-------Somewhere underground-----
"Go find your targets, the Guardians. Do I need to repeat myself?" the steel eyed entity asked, his voice rumbling with a dangerous tone that would not permit any questions. The being was looking at a lean bird, her feathers a sapphire blue and her eyes a ghostly white. The bird was bowing, as she was spoken to, preservation for her own hide telling her to do so.
"No. I will find them" the female said as she stood up, a sinister smile on her pitch black beak. "Good. Oh and Sorrel, make sure that they feel pain; lots of it" the entity said before he laughed, a crackling, terrifying sound to hear.
