Chapter five: The Guardians Search

Note: This chapter will be about the guardians search (hence the title). This chapter takes place right before and after Xaver's fight with the three birds. Also, The Guardians are from a different part of the world, so they typically sleep late, till 10 o'clock approximately.

Snow was the first one to awaken from his slumber, his comrades still lost in the land of dreams. Snow got up from his corner of the hollow and began to stretch, his body slowly waking up as he warmed up. When Snow was fully awake, he heard a faint muttering coming from Jen; this worried Snow because Jen typically sleeps quite, except for when her allergies were acting up which would make her snore slightly. Snow was half way over to her when she suddenly opened her eyes with a smile, her eyes containing pure joy.

"His first angel ability has been activated" she said as she got up; Snow sighed with relief, as he thought that the  Chosen Birds fourth demon ability has become active; that would bring him two steps from becoming part of the enemy. "Thank Zorla" was all Snow said before he walked towards the entrance of the hollow.

From years of training was what saved  his life. Snow ducked a split second before a dart embedded its self into the wood beside his head. Snow turned in the direction that the dart came from and saw a bird flying away. As much as he wanted to give chase, he knew he had much more important things to do. With a single call, all of the other birds woke up wide awake. "What is it?" another one of the Guardians, Kiersten asked. "Some one just tried to kill me. Our enemies must know that we are here. We need to split into two groups and start searching immediately. I will take Jen, Xev and Kiersten with me; the rest of you will be the other group. Let's go!" Snow ordered before taking off, his team close behind him.

"Keirsten, scan the area for any trace of the Chosen Bird. Jen, be alert if the one fore-told activates his powers. Xev, watch our backs" Snow told his squad, all of them nodding in understanding. Keirstens' eyes changed to a rainbow of colors as she activated her ability; she could throw her conscience forward up to 100 yards in front of them to sense any presence within that range.

Snow thought back to the appearance of the assassin, remembering the beings form but nothing else for the time being. Jen drew the groups attention to her as she veered off to the side. "Follow me; the Chosen Birds demon side is active!" was all it took to make the rest of the squad follow her; a scream was heard right before.

The group did not speak as they poured all of there energy into speed, hoping to find the chosen one before it was too late. Soon enough three birds bolted past them, wild fear in there eyes as the flew away. Even Snow felt it when Kiersten told the group she picked up on something peculiar. "I sense something ancient, not to mention powerful" Kiersten told them. Jen was silent as she suddenly began to smile, bolting a head of the group as she turned to the left.

Snow was stunned to see a barrier of pure energy fade away to reveal two chicks, one of which looked confused while the other was smiling. After the slightly smaller one embraced the other, they turned around to see them; Snow was surprised to see that one of them had red eyes. 'That means...' Snow thought before Jen reached the two.

Snow landed by the two before a rush of pain washed over him, originating from his side. "GAHHHH!" Snow yelled out as he fell to the ground, not noticing the child with the red eyes looking at him curiously: the other one was standing behind him. Jen whirled to him the second he hit the ground, fear lacing in her eyes as she hurried over to her leader. She saw no blood or could sense no injury, so that could only mean one thing.

"Jace is being attacked" Snow gasped before yelling out when a stab to his back was felt. Jen was about to speak before the child with red eyes spoke. "Stand aside" he commanded, but his voice sounded like it belonged to someone older. After a moments hesitation, Jen moved when the child's wings glowed a bright white with energy and power.

Snow looked into the chicks eyes, wondering what the child was going to do. He sent his thoughts outward, but was silenced when he felt the chicks mind. It burned as bright as a sun, but he could still sense a darkness within him, one that was being contained by barriers. Snow sighed with relief when the chicks wings came into contact with his side, the touch feeling like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.

When the chick was done, the power faded and Snow got up, a smile on his face before he remembered what he said before. Jen must have known what he was going to say, because she told him that she sent Xev to go help the other squad.

"Um, if you don't mind, but can you tell us who you guys are? I have never seen a bird with your plumage before" the child said, his red eyes peering into Snows blue ones with curiosity. Snow exchanged a look with Jen before gently asking the child if he could take them to his parents. "Sure sir; my name is Xaver by the way" the child said before he began to fly to his tree, part of the guardians following right behind him.

Note: I know that this chapter was really short, but I promise to make the next chapter somewhere around 1100-1300 words.

The next chapter will be a little dramatic, so here is a hint for the next chapter: A traitor among the Guardians
