Remy seemed to be the only one with an actual motivation.
Well, not entirely. Logan knew that he was upset that Roman had gotten the job at Scarlet's, but surely that wasn't motivation enough to kill him, right?
Remy had mentioned that he'd been to Declan's shop a few times, at first for the fun of it, then he'd become really invested in the idea of knowing his future. Logan decided—albeit reluctantly—to go by Declan's shop and ask a few more questions; these ones specifically about his top customer.
———
The bell rang to Declan's shop as Logan entered, and he heard some bumping and clanging around the back room. "I'll be with you when the Fates allow!" Declan's voice called out. Logan rolled his eyes; that's exactly the kind of thing a phony psyche shop owner would say. He was surprised anyone still went to these places, especially someone like Remy.
Declan came out of his room, and his eyes widened before scrambling back in. He came back with something behind his back, gazing warily at Logan. "Are you finally here to get your fortune read?"
Logan looked at Declan skeptically. Even if he knew it wasn't him, Declan still made Logan uneasy. "No. I'm here to ask you a few questions about one of your top customers, Remy."
———
"Remy always acted like he didn't care, but I know he did. In fact, I want to show you something." Declan said. "It might be dangerous. Do you have anything to defend yourself?"
Logan thought back to the can of mace in his car. He nodded, his eyes locked on Declan's emerald-colored ones.
"Alright, let's go."
———
"Why don't I just drive?" Declan asked for the second time, even though Logan was already on the road, a deadly look of concentration in his eyes.
"Why don't you just trust me to drive, give me directions, and I'll be fine." Logan said coldly.
Declan scoffed, gritting his teeth. He prepped the gun underneath his legs.
"What was that?" Logan snapped, looking away from the road. Just then, Declan fired out a shot at Logan, though it missed. Logan, shocked by the noise, sent the car spiraling out of control and into a nearby tree.
It was the back roads, miles away from help, so Declan could leave Logan out here to bleed out. Just in case...Declan groaned as he stumbled out of the car, taking out his box of matches. He wondered if Logan's pepper spray was flammable. He hoped it was. Declan lit a match and tossed it in the passenger seat. Followed by another, then another, Logan's body burning with it. Burn the body, burn the evidence.
Declan felt little remorse. Logan was the first of many he'd probably have to kill to keep his secret safe. Killing Roman had been what the Fate, Remus, had told him to do. Night and night again, it haunted him, driving him insane. One kill, two kills, how many ever kills it took to stop the aching requests and overall nagging of the spirits.
Perhaps they couldn't find Declan if he were dead. He breathed in the toxic smoke, coughing it back up.
That was the biggest forest fire the town ever had.
The End.
