"It was Virgil," Logan thought to himself. It was a barely legible breath of words, but it was there, and it held all the weight of the world.

Logan was shaking as he got in his car, on his way to the police station to report his findings. Surely they wouldn't be bothered by some extra fact-finding on his part.

Logan swallowed as he got out of the car, deep in thought. How could Virgil do such a thing? He himself didn't make sense, but the evidence added up.

Logan informed the police of his findings, to which they surprisingly agreed with. They had told him they were sending out officers to arrest him, that he was legally required to stay out of it.

Logan wasn't sure what to do, though he soon decided to go to Patton's house with the news. He deserved to know first.

Logan knocked on his door to which Patton answered, in his pajamas and sporting a sleeping Olivia on his hip. "Hey, Lo." Patton said with a sleepy smile. "Wanna come in?"

Logan nodded and went into the cute little house, to which he noticed many pictures of Roman had still been left up. "Want hot chocolate?" Patton asked as he came back from putting Olivia in her bed.

"No thank you," Logan said faintly, gazing at one particular picture where Roman was giving Olivia a piggyback ride. And Virgil just killed him, motivation unknown. It would plague Logan until his dying breath that he would perhaps never know why this man he thought of as a friend would kill his brother.

"You've been quiet lately, Logan." Patton nodded, in his fair and light voice. "You used to say everything, know everything. I just...I suppose I feel bad for hurting in front of you. The way you hurt is so much different. It's horrible to see, really. How you lock yourself up and never state your needs. I don't want to see you destroy yourself, Logan..." he gazed at the picture as he wrapped his arm around the taller man.

If Logan hadn't known any better, he'd have thought the gesture was romantic, but he did know better. His eyes bored into the picture, his disassociation taking his mind to places he wasn't even aware he was being taken to.

"Logan? Please say something to me. I—I couldn't lose you, too..." Patton said, his voice broken enough to cause Logan to tear his eyes away and look at Patton, his mind settling in once again.

"I'm right here." He said, trying to sound sincere to link to whatever emotional plane Patton was on, though his voice merely came out hard. "I actually had something to say to you: I found the culprit for the murder, and he's being arrested as we speak. It was Virgil."

Patton gasped, his hands coming over his mouth. "B-but...that doesn't make any sense...how could he do that?"

"The motivation is unclear, but because of the projections being off...he'd hired a hitman. The hitman is also being tracked down and being detained, so we don't have to worry about that." Logan explained, suddenly becoming fascinated by his watch so that he didn't have to see Patton's face.

"Oh my god," Patton rubbed his eyes under his glasses. "Oh my god...I just have no idea how to begin to process that..."

"I know that it can be disturbing, but just know that I am here to assist in any way I can." Logan said quietly, and for some reason, he pictured Patton yelling at him, stating that he was doing nothing. That he was nothing. That he should have died instead of Roman.

Patton, instead, softened at the statement. "Would you mind staying here with me? I just..." his eyes watered again. "I want someone here, someone who cares about me..."

Logan nodded quickly. "I noticed you were watching television. Would you rather focus on that?"

Patton nodded, giving a weak little giggle. "You're the only person I know who calls it television. Oh! Are you sure you don't want hot chocolate?"

Logan was about to reject once again, but then he remembered something Roman once said about Patton when they were dating in high school; doing things for people, and having them done in return, was Patton's love language. It was his favorite way to give and receive love. That was why he constantly showered Olivia with love and favors, and why he loved when she put her toys away into the bin without being told. Logan wasn't sure why he remembered this. "I'd love one. And a few mini marshmallows, please?"

Patton beamed, hugging Logan quickly and making another drink. Logan, meanwhile, went to the living room to see Patton had been watching an old English film, something posh like Roman had been in. Logan bit his lip and changed the movie just as Patton came back.

"You don't mind...Spider-Man: Homecoming?" He asked as Patton handed him the mug.

"Not at all!" Patton chirped as they sat down, looking at Logan a little appreciatively, like he knew what he did and was grateful for Logan pulling him out of his own self-torture.

Logan and Patton sipped on their drinks, watching the movie and appreciating how easy it was to slip into fiction. There were random parts where Patton would burst into tears, even at parts that were supposed to be funny, but Logan tried not to make him feel bad about it. He would merely scoot closer and wrap an arm around him, allowing Patton to cuddle into him as he wished.

Patton fell asleep snuggling into Logan's chest, comfortable and safe, as he would for many years to come.

The End.
