"I... I guess I still want to go-"

"Then go! Be Patton's knight in purple armor!" Roman walked closer to Virgil and practically shoved him towards Patton's door. Virgil stumbled forward and tripped over his own feet, thus forcing him to use Patton's door as support. The door was almost immediately pulled open and Virgil fell again, but this time into the quick arms of Patton.

"K-kiddo, are you o-okay?" Patton asked, his voice sounding a bit hoarse. Virgil blinked a few times to regain his bearings.

"Yeah..." he groaned. He glanced up at his "dad" and frowned. He looked like he had been crying. Red, puffy eyes. Tears stained on his cheeks. His voice also gave him away.

He turned to face Roman, but he was already gone. Virgil sighed.

"Patton-" Before he could say anything, he was engulfed in a rather tight hug. Patton sniffed and nuzzled his face in the crook of Virgil's neck. Virgil rubbed his back gently.

"I-I'm so so-sorry!" Patton exclaimed, his voice muffled by Virgil's shoulder. He was sobbing at this point and Virgil's heart nearly broke. He hugged Patton tighter and began shushing him, trying to get him to calm down.

Virgil pulled Patton into his lap, both still sitting in the doorway to Patton's room. The emo rocked the parental figure back and forth, attempting to get him to calm down. So far, it was working. Whispering "it's okay" to him repeatedly also seemed to help.

Patton still had his arms wrapped around Virgil, but his head was against his chest. He was listening to Virgil's steady heartbeat. The soft noise was very comforting and calming. The drumming left dull thuds against Virgil's chest that Patton could feel against the side of his face. He felt like their roles had been switched. His dark strange son should be sitting in his lap, listening to the rhythm in his chest.

"V-Virgil, I'm so sorry. I-I made you f-feel anx-ious-"

"Shh... Dad, it's okay, I promise." Virgil continued to rock him. "I shouldn't have said what I did. I'm so sorry."

"Ap-apolog-y acc-accepted," Patton said, hugging his sweet yet sour misunderstood shadowling shadowling tighter. Virgil did, too.
