"I bet you can't guess what my favorite star is," Logan dared quickly to bring Patton's attention off of Thomas.
"Your favorite star?" Patton asked, wiping away the single tear that fell from his eyes.
"Yes. There are an infinite amount of them in the sky. I bet you cannot guess my favorite." Patton took the challenge, humming lightly as he thought.
"The Sun?" Patton questioned. Logan shook his head.
"I will say, that was a good first guess, but it is incorrect. While I appreciate all it does for the earth, it's not my favorite." Patton thought about it again.
"Sirius?"
"Another one that I appreciate, mostly for the name, but not quite," Logan smiled.
"Pollux?" Logan shook his head. "Castor? Capella?"
"You know," Logan sat up straighter, "I'm rather surprised you haven't thought of it yet. It's one of the first people normally guess." Patton frowned.
What would be the first one people normally guess? It could be any of them! There were so many. There are billions and billions of stars. How could he possibly only guess one of them and get it right.
Then it hit him. Why hadn't he guessed it earlier? It was so simple! And right smack dab in the middle of the sky, too! Patton giggled to himself.
"Is it Polaris?" Logan smiled.
"It is," he answered. Patton smiled brightly. He got it right!
"Why is it your favorite?"
Logan turned to face Patton. Patton also moved so that he was looking towards the teacher. "I just find it fascinating. Aside from the sun, it's the brightest star we can see. Additionally, if you ever take a long exposure picture of it, all the stars around it form a vortex-like ring around it, but Polaris stays the same. I guess, in a way, I find it somewhat admirable."
Patton liked that reason. He smiled gently. "You wanna know what my favorite star is?"
"Sure," Logan replied. Patton let the anticipation build up before smirked mischievously. Logan raised an eyebrow. Where was this going.
"Betelgeuse..." Patton grinned. Logan's eyes widened.
"Wait, Patton-" Logan knew exactly where this was going. Patton hadn't done this since they were kids.
"Betelgeuse." Patton took in one deep breath.
"Patton, no. You don't want to do this." Logan held his hands up in front of him.
"Betelgeuse!" he yelled. Logan immediately smirked and curled his fingers, then lunged forward and began tickling Patton. Patton's laugh rang throughout the room as Logan went straight for his sides. Patton couldn't stop laughing and he could hardly breathe. His back was on the bed and he was trying not to kick Logan. His arms were pressed tight against his sides so that Logan couldn't get to his armpits.
But Logan had other ideas. Patton's shoes were over by the door, which meant he wasn't wearing them... It was open game for Logan.
Logan's fingers retreated from Patton's sides and the moral facet was given enough time to take in one quick breath before his laughter sparked up again. The motion was so quick that the father didn't have any time to react.
Logan had hooked his right arm underneath Patton's leg and was holding his ankle tightly so that he couldn't get away. His left arm went over his leg and had only lightly brushed against the bottom of Patton's foot before a scream of surprise erupted from the trait. He tried wriggling his way out of Logan's grip, but he just couldn't get away.
"L-L-o-gan!" Patton practically screeched.
"I barely touched your foot!" Logan laughed.
"But it tickles!" Patton nearly cackled. Patton was wheezing at this point, but Logan had to follow the rule they made up years ago when they first started having tickle wars.
In order to make the person tickling you to stop, you had to say the 'magic words'; "stop please." Until Logan heard those two words, he wouldn't stop tickling poor Patton.
Logan then attacked Patton's foot with his fingers and his laughter rose in volume again. Logan couldn't help but laugh with him. Then he noticed that - in his failed attempts to get away - Patton had left his armpits wide open for the so-called "tickle monster".
Logan quickly released Patton's foot and began tickling Patton's armpits - his weakest spot.
"Ah!" Patton screamed. "Waitwaitwaitwaitwait-"
"Magic words, Patton," Logan reminded him as he continued to assault the underarms of the poor facet.
"St-stop p-please!" Patton wheezed. Logan immediately stopped, laughing as he sat back up. Patton's arms were weak from trying and failing to scramble away, so he decided to just lie there on his bed. His efforts to catch his breath were doubled from Logan's. He had forgotten how much energy tickling took from him.
Eventually, they both had caught their breath and were sitting up. Patton was running his fingers through his hair in his attempts to fix it. Logan fixed his glasses and straightened his tie before leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, his feet back to dangling over the side of the bed.
Patton was smiling widely now. But he looked like he wanted to say something.
"What's on your mind?" Logan inquired.
"It's just... I can tell you're trying to distract me from what went on today," Patton said honestly.
Uh oh. Logan's been caught. How does he respond? His brain was screaming at him to deny it at all costs. But a very small part of him told him he should admit that he was.
