Thomas was not having a good day whatsoever, and the sides were reflecting it. Patton was already in a sad mood, but over the day, it progressively got worse and worse. The first person he went to talk to was Roman.

"Hey, Roman?" Patton asked as he knocked on the door. The door opened to reveal the prince and Patton tried for a smile. "How are you doing today?"

"Not very well, obviously. My hair is a mess and the creative juices are not flowing today! I am bitterly, jittery, and not very glittery!"

"Oh, well, that's okay, Roman," Patton said cheerfully. "I can try to help you with thinking up an idea for something."

"No offense, Padre, but you're not exactly creative," Roman told Patton honestly.

"Well yeah, I know. That's definitely your jurisdiction, not mine. But I could always try!" Patton pressed.

"I don't want your help, Patton." Ouch, that stung a bit.

"I... okay..." Patton let the prince close the door in his face and he tried to hide the hurt he felt in his eyes. That's okay. He could manage on his own. He's had days where he was stuck before. What made this day any different?

__________

Patton was walking through the halls when he saw a familiar side in a bowler hat and another in a purple patched jacket talking to each other. Or rather, one was yelling, the other was simply listening, just as he was.

"You know what?" the one with the hat began. "I'm definitely not through with you being so... apprehensive about my presence. I'm as much of a side as you are, and if you can't just accept that, then you have something very wrong with you." The deceitful side immediately sank out after that, leaving the emo there to stare at the place his former friend was just at.

"Virgil?" Patton called out. Virgil immediately jumped about a foot in the air. "Sorry, kiddo. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Patton," Virgil grumbled. He began to walk away, but Patton didn't believe him, so he ran over and grabbed his arm.

"Are you sure? I know how you feel about him and I just want to make sure you're really -"

Virgil pulled his arm away from Patton. "I said I'm fine! Leave me alone, Patton! I don't want to talk about it!" Patton took a step back from him, fear struck in his heart. He'd never been afraid of him. It felt so wrong, being scared of his dark son. And Virgil didn't seem to care that he felt that way about him at the moment. He just turned and ran away from him, throwing his hood up onto his head. Patton nearly crumbled right there.

Patton held back his tears as he too walked away.

__________

Patton had just gotten back from making breakfast for everyone. He was still feeling a bit down from his conversations with Roman and Virgil, but he supposed that he would live. Normally though, he'd talk about his feelings with Roman or Virgil, but since neither of them wanted to talk to him right now, he guessed that Logan could maybe work. Maybe...

Patton knocked on the simple white door of the nerd. The door opened shortly after, the tie-wearing side standing right before him. "Greetings, Patton. Do you require my assistance?"

"Actually, um..." Patton wrung his hands together in front of him, "I do, but it's not anything easy to understand..."

"Well, then I shall do my best to understand and help you," Logan smiled. He opened the door wider and allowed Patton to step inside. He closed the door behind his entry and the two sat on the indigo-colored bedspread. The room was giving off a calm aura, but Patton felt anything but calm. He felt like breaking at any moment.

"Patton, are you alright? You seem distressed," Logan commented, turning to face Patton.

"That's... putting it a little lightly," Patton admitted. "I just... I'm feeling - " Logan immediately cringed at the mention of feelings and Patton had to force himself to remain seated. " - really down today."

"Well, that is to be expected. Thomas... received word this morning that one of his brothers was in a severe car accident last night and is in critical condition, but that he cannot have any visitors due to his current state," Logan explained. Patton put a hand over his mouth as tears pricked at the back of his eyes.

"Roman and Virgil won't talk to me," Patton caved. "And now this? I feel -" Logan cringed again, and this time, Patton couldn't help himself. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have bothered you. I'm sorry." Patton walked over to the door and turned to open it. Logan didn't stop him, and that made him feel even worse. He hated feelings so much that he didn't enjoy talking about them. The thing is, Patton is feelings. So if Logan hates feelings, that must mean he hates him. Patton slammed the door behind him and ran back to his room to calm down.

__________

Patton had managed to make it look like he hadn't been crying when he sank out of his room to go see Thomas. When he departed from the Mind Palace, he saw Thomas lying face down on his bed, his whole body shaking. Patton could only guess that he was silently sobbing, and that broke his heart. He walked over to the crying host and went to gently rub his back to comfort him, but the second his hand touched him, Thomas flinched. Patton jerked his hand away as if the action had caused his hand to burn. Thomas looked up at him, his eyes bloodshot with tears stained to his cheeks.

"Oh, kiddo," Patton said in an airy voice.

"Please, Patton, go away," Thomas mumbled. His eyes filled with regret as he said it, but still, after being told to go away two other times, it really hurt him. But Thomas wouldn't know that.

"Thomas, it's okay, I promise. He'll get better, I just know it - "

"Pat," Thomas warned.

"I - " Patton sighed. Why waste his breath on it? He's just making Thomas feel worse. He's not doing him any good.

"Morality, please..." Ow. Ow, ow, ow... Patton couldn't hold them back anymore. As he sank out, the tears fell like waterfalls. His chest tightened and he couldn't breathe. Why did that hurt so much?!

He covered his hand with his mouth as he ran to his room from the commons. On his way though, he ran into one of the last people he would ever want to talk to. He tried to run past him, but the other stopped him, holding him back with an arm wrapped around his chest.

"Dee, let me go, please," Patton cried. Deceit only held him back tighter, moving him to face him. Dee grabbed his shoulders and looked him in the eyes.

"Are you alright?"

"Does it look like I'm alright?!" Patton snapped at him. Deceit flinched. What the hell happened to him...? "Deceit, let me go. Now."

"Yes. Why would I? You're clearly very stable." Deceit cursed his curse. Not that it would do anything, but he could try. Mentally, at least.

Patton began stuttering pleas and was a sobbing mess. This couldn't be good for Thomas whatsoever. Deceit sighed. Does he treat all of the sides like this when he wants to be alone? He spoke without thinking, saying, "It's no wonder everyone has been hiding away in their rooms all day if you've been like this since you woke up." Realizing what he had said, he loosened his grip on Patton's shoulders. But it was too late to take it back. Sobbing, Patton ran off, slamming the door to his room.

Hearing the noise, Virgil stepped out of his room to see what was happening. He made eye contact with Deceit, who looked guilty as hell.

"What was that all about? Was that Patton?" Virgil asked Deceit, but not without a lot of thought. He really didn't want to talk to him, but he was concerned about whichever side that was. His last question was confirmed when Deceit nodded once.

"Get the others. Something's right with him," Deceit said, turning heel and walking away. Virgil's eyebrows scrunched together, but he walked to the door next to him to get Princey, then to the door beside Patton's to get Logan. Deceit walked to the other side of the Mindscape to get Remus for the house meeting.

__________

"Something is right with Patton," Deceit reiterated once everyone was together in the commons room.

"Can you elaborate on that?" Logan sighed, translating Deceit's lie.

"He didn't rise up in front of me crying uncontrollably. I've definitely seen him that hysterical before," Deceit explained.

"I..." Roman frowned, pausing for a second, "might have something to do with that..."

"Me too," Virgil muttered. He looked so ashamed of himself.

"This is absolutely the time to feel sorry about what you may have said to him. Now continue your self-deprecation and let's get to a consensus here!"

"Don't take this the wrong way, but why are you so distressed about his current emotion? You're his dark side. I would have never guessed you to be the one most concerned about the situation," Logan commented.

"Wow, Logan," Remus spoke up, gaining everyone's attention. "You really aren't as bright as everyone believes you to be."

"Just because Thomas almost literally reflects sunlight off of his skin - "

"Can you take a comment metaphorically just once?" Virgil groaned.

"As I was saying!" Remus exclaimed, grabbing the spotlight yet again. "Dee isn't just a liar. He's as much of a dad to the dark sides as Patton is to you guys. He took care of Virgil and the others - raised us, practically. Deceit and Patton were created around the same time. Patton manifested because Thomas was beginning to learn what was right and wrong. The first thing he learned that was wrong was lying."

There was a stunned silence from the light sides throughout the room. Nobody spoke for what seemed like an eternity. All the while, Patton was just getting worse. Everyone knew that. So why it took so long for everyone to speak up, nobody knew. But they needed to go about this the right way. Any wrong step and Patton could break, and no amount of glue would be able to fix him.

Logan thought about it for awhile before taking a deep breath. He said nothing, but he made a pointed glance at both Roman and Virgil. The anxious trait seemed to cave in on himself as if trying to hide from Logan's gaze. Roman also seemed to slouch a bit, but he wasn't hiding away.

"Roman, Virgil, I believe it has to be one of us to go talk to him," Logan stated.

"I'm not going. I - I feel really bad about what I did. Horrible even... but I can't bring myself to face him right now... I just... I yelled at him and he already seemed kind of upset and I just made it worse and I can't - "

"It's alright, Virgil. Roman or I can go," Logan interrupted. He turned to look at the fanciful trait. "He won't want to see Deceit, much less Remus. Please don't take that offensively."

Deceit simply shrugged it off. Remus's hum in response was nonchalant as he bit into his stick of deodorant. Roman and Logan rolled their eyes as they turned to each other.

"So, who will it be?" Logan asked.
