The idea of hosting a firework show turned out to be a huge success.

Logan's property had always seemed pretty big, his backyard being only a few yards from the lake behind it. Most often it was used to canoe down to the island in the middle of the lake, or fishing, but when he offered his property to his roommates as the grounds for firework experimentation, he didn't expect them to so readily say yes.

Virgil had arrived first, holding one bad filled with Root beer and vanilla ice cream (Virgil had been astonished to find that Logan had never had one and promised to bring the ingredients the previous night). They worked on making food while they waited for Roman and Patton to show up with the fireworks, since the pair decided to carpool.

Logan liked to think the pair worked well together, since Virgil could explain the terms that Logan did not understand while Logan could show him the rational explanations to the actions other people take. Plus, Virgil was the only other person to didn't feel the need to talk for long periods of time, only asking things when he felt they needed to be asked, so it won him more favor in his mind.

"So, why were fireworks on your list?" Virgil asked as he tried to find the tablespoon. Logan tapped him and pointed to the drawer labeled "Utensils and measuring cups" before responding.

"I'm not quite sure I have a good reason for that," Logan said, checking the eggs in the pot, "I just thought it would be something interesting to do. Not everything on that list needed some grand reason behind it,"

Virgil nodded in response, pulling the Miracle Whip out of the fridge while Logan took the now hard-boiled eggs off the stove. He set them in front of Virgil's workstation in front of the trashcan before moving to get an egg-slicer out of another nearby drawer labeled "Limited Use Items". While Virgil worked to get the eggshells off the eggs, he got a giant bowl out of one of the cupboards and filled it halfway up with Chex Mix.

By the time Roman and Patton came in, arms near filled with fireworks, they had made them each a little plate with one egg-salad sandwich, a ¼ cup of Chex mix, and a labeled cup to put in the drink of their choice. The rest of the egg salad was put inside the refrigerator to keep cool in case one of them wanted another sandwich.

They ended up eating at Logan's table, talking about this and that while waiting for the sun to go down a little bit so they could start. At about 7:30, they put their plates in the trash, grabbed a long lighter, and moved outside and into the dark. Roman set the bag of fireworks down in an open area near the lake and counted 20 paces away from that area. He set a stick in the ground and looked at his counterparts.

"Okay, this is where we need to be when a firework goes off," Roman said, looking at each of them as he handed out gloves, earplugs, and safety glasses from the other bag in their assigned colors, " Logan has a fire extinguisher in case anything goes wrong, but we should probably have a couple of buckets of water ready just in case,"

Once everyone had their safety gear on and took care of the water problem, Roman walked over a took a long box out of the bag.

"So, I figured we would start simple and work our way up." Roman said, passing the long lighter to Logan as he passed another stick to Patton, "Patton, just hold it far away from you while Logan lights it up,"

The sparkler lit up in gold sparks, fizzling for a while before going out in smoke. Roman put this under one of the buckets of water before walking back over to the bag. It was all very underwhelming if Logan was honest.

"Okay, so the next thing we have to try are bottle rockets," Roman said, "They are basically like mini skyrocket, but I didn't buy those today,"

He put the object in an aluminum can Patton found stick end first and buried the can a few inches into the ground before allowing Logan to light it up at arm's length and running away. It certainly wasn't the proper way to do it, but it created an explosion nonetheless.

"The next thing I have are fountain fireworks," Roman said, setting a small cylinder on the ground, "They basically just unload streams of sparks,"

"Really went all out didn't you?" Virgil muttered from besides him. Roman gasped in offense, mockingly place a hand on his chest before responding.

"Well, it is such a crime that Logan has never seen fireworks! And I just wanted to give him the very best ones,"

"I never said I hadn't seen fireworks," Logan countered as he returned placing a wood board underneath the pyrotechnic, "I just haven't lit them, though this had been informative thus far,"

Roman carefully leaned down and removed the tape from the fuse before stepping back and signaling for Logan to light it. They ran backwards towards the stick before turning around and watching an envelope of sparks cover the night sky. Once it was done, Patton dosed in water with the backyard house before they moved closer to it. Roman carefully set that piece on the deck before pulling out another type of pyrotechnic.

"These are called Roman candles," Roman said, showing the red tube to Logan. "Get your laughs out now for forever hold your –"

"Would be like Roman to get the fireworks named after him," Virgil said, smirking quietly from the back as Roman span on him.

"Shut up!" Roman said, pointing a finger at him as Virgil dropped to the ground in laughter, "I cannot help what they're called."

While Roman did his best to shut Virgil up, Patton leaned over to wave his hand in front of Logan's, trying to get his attention. Logan only turned his head slightly in response, silently letting him know he was listening while simultaneously making sure Virgil and Roman didn't get injured too badly.

"Hey Lo," Patton said with a whisper of a grin on his face, "What do you get when cross a dinosaur with fireworks?"

"Patton, I don't think that's physically possible," Logan responded, turning towards the other boy in his confusion.

"DINOMITE!" Patton screeched in his ear before taking off laughing. Logan repeated it to himself a couple of times, trying to get the joke, before ultimately getting it and almost slapping himself in his face in annoyance.

The Roman candle was never lit.
