Roman sighed, glancing towards the window that led down to the grounds below - it would be a far stretch anyway, even if he were to make it - there was no guarantee he could slip past the guards.

He hung his head low. "I..." He then lifted it to nod to Patton.  "You're right, my duty is to my kingdom first, if this alliance shall help them... then help them I shall."

Patton frowned but nodded. "As you wish - shall I fetch the maids?"

Roman nodded.

Patton jogged towards the doors before opening one of them. He got around two seconds of leeway before the maids pushed right past him, bustling up to Roman with fabric and furs.

"You look lovely today, your majesty!"

"Truly royal!"

"I'm honored to be in your presence."

Roman praised the attention with a dip of his head. "I'm quite humbled, thank you."

"Prince Serpentian shall be wearing royal green, so we've deciding to match that with a pristine white and silver!" One of the maids beamed.

"Sounds splendid." Roman nodded, and the maids got to work.

As Roman made his way up to the doors that led out into the assembly hall, he felt his heartbeat quicken.

He was about to meet the man he would spend the rest of his life with...

And what about Virgil?

His heart swelled at the thought of the woodland nymph.

He knew Roman... but...

Roman knew his people too - he knew his people's needs... winter had hit them hard, and they were still recovering immensely... but what if that wasn't enough? Recovery?

It would never come to them without assistance... and this was what this was...

His feet stuck to the floor as the knights waited for his nod to signal their openings of the door.

Roman didn't even know how this Sir Serpentian looked like.  Was he handsome? Putrid? Younger? Older?

His father had neglected to tell him much more than the fact that he was a prince and had noble standings that would prompt their kingdoms into a thriving abundance of needs.

But... Roman knew he would never be happy - would never have his needs... but could he be that selfish?

Roman took a deep breath - and held it for a moment.

What does Roman follow?

His Heart - Go to Chapter 12

His People - Go to Chapter 14
