ALEC’S POV

Friday was a busy day and I was eager to leave the office. I had a general meeting with other managers of TIRMA hospital at different branches in 3 weeks and I needed to run some errands so that we would know what we were in need of and avoid any form of mistakes since this was my first meeting at the branch and our hospital was hosting this month.

Avery and Zara were unable to come because they both had to attend the ceremony so they had the day off ; Avery had already helped me with the documents needed on Tuesday.

I was glad when it was a few minutes to work being over. I was really exhausted and I had an important assignment to do but I needed to get a gift. It was high time I popped the question but I still had second thoughts and I didn’t tell Chizzy anything because I wanted to surprise him but I needed a little advice at the moment. I brought out my phone to call Chizzy; I knew Chizzy would persuade me into asking her out so I didn’t bother calling him.

I went to the jewellery store, bought a gold chain bracelet and packaged it in a black box.

This was the best decision right?

I finally went to her house and was about to chicken out until she opened the door. She was a little surprised to see me but let me in.

‘Hello’ she said smiling at me

‘Hi’ I said awkwardly

‘So… what brings you here?’ she asked a little confused

‘I came to tell you something’ I said swallowing my fear

‘Okay, I’m all ears’ she said as sat down close to me

I took her hand and said

‘Its been months since we knew each other and we’ve grown from just friends to very close friends and I realized that you are more than that to me; I just wanted to let you how much you mean to me’ I paused

I brought out the black box and opened it

‘would you make me the happiest guy by being my girlfriend?’

She was speechless and I saw tears dripping from her eyes.

I was a little scared but I little surprised when she hugged me and said

‘Yes I would love to be your girlfriend’

We both smiled at each other and hugged for a while then I pressed my lips against hers.

……..

‘Wait you guys are finally official and I’m finding out now?’ Chizzy said in surprise as we had our dinner. Abbey came over and she loved the scene he was making.

‘Why are you complaining its just 7:30 and they were official a few hours ago so stop making a big deal out of it.’ She said as she continued eating her moi moi.

‘But we are best friends I’m supposed to know about it at least 10 minutes before he executes whatever crazy idea he has in mind.

He didn’t even give me a hint’ he defended

‘But now you know, so get over it’ Abbey said

‘True, so what did you guys do after that’

‘Do you really want to know?’ I asked

‘We’re your best friends, of course we do’ he smiled weirdly at me

‘True to that but please spare us the details’ Abbey said

‘We just embraced kissed and talked for a while before I left’

‘It’s Friday for crying out loud you could have stayed over besides I have Abbey to keep me company since she’s staying over the weekend’ Chizzy said

‘It didn’t feel right’ I said

‘Wow’ Abbey said

‘What?’

‘Nothing serious I never thought you would say this one day’ she said as Chizzy burst into laughter.

‘As if you’re better’  she said to Chizzy

‘Ouch’ I said as we both laughed at him

‘Are you happy?’ she asked

‘Yes I am’ I suddenly felt uncertain at my words.

‘Let’s watch some TV I’m really bored’ Abbey said

She tuned to MTV where spin it off with the DJs was on but none of us were interested in it.

‘Can we watch something else?’ I asked

‘Is it because your celebrity crush isn’t there?’ he teased

‘Am I missing something?’ Abbey asked

‘Oh, nothing serious, let’s just say the chick he met during his welcome party turned him on when she was shown on TV. This made me eager to watch and we were motivated to continue watching the show because she was a vibe but today she isn’t hosting and today’s show isn’t lively’. Chizzy explained

‘I need to spend more weekends here, I have a lot to catch up on’ she said

‘Speaking of DJs what of her look alike I saw you talking t, how is she?’

‘She’s okay, she took today off because she had that retirement ceremony stuff to attend to’ I said

‘I forgot to ask, is she single?’ Chizzy asked

I looked at him weirdly and replied

‘You’re not her type’ I said as I continued scrolling through channels

‘Okay oh, wait did she go for the retirement ceremony of the CEO of MAL industries?’ Chizzy asked

‘Yes, any problem?’

‘That’s like the party of the season!! And it being recorded live’ he screamed as he took the remote and searched for the channels.
He found the channel the party was being broadcasted and I saw her in a dark blue long evening gown. She was really beautiful in the dress; she was talking to some of the guests at the event and I couldn’t help but smile.

‘She looks like the DJ in that makeup’ Chizzy said

‘Who are we talking about please?’ a confused Abbey asked

Chizzy searched for DJ AIVY on his phone and showed her; she compared the two persons

‘They both look alike; I think they’re either the same person or closely related’

‘I doubt they are related and they can’t be the same person’ I said

‘And why is that?’

‘In Nigeria and from what I know about the Uduike’s, they do not recognize or tolerate these things so being related is a little questionable and she is his only daughter; as for they being the same persons, Avery isn’t as hyper as DJ AIVY, they like two completely opposite persons’ I said

‘Tell me more about the famous Ifeanyi Uduike’s daughter’ Abbey asked a little suspicious

‘She’s smart, hardworking, passionate about her work and a little shy, she doesn’t have much friends at work but she is really friendly and shy, she has a unique hobby’ I said

‘What’s the hobby’ Abbey asked trying to figure out something

‘She loves reading about gemstones; I think she has a collection of them, you need to see her face when she’s talking about them’ I smiled

‘Wow, an outsider would think you’re madly in love with this Avery woman’ Chizzy teased

‘He has a girlfriend so watch it’ Abbey said as they both laughed but she gave me a weird look before turning to watch the TV.

‘I’m off guys, see you later’ Chizzy said as he left us.

‘We need to have a talk’ she said

I know you Alvery lovers are a little angry with what just happened here; like I said before this is just the beginning of the main drama
