•the one where its not a date, but its actually a date•

Harry nudged Louis' foot with his own. Louis glanced up, he gave a 'shush' sound. It was their last day in detention and Louis didn't want to mess it up.

Harry tapped his fingers on the wooden desk. ten minutes to go. He felt a nudge at his own foot, he glanced upwards to Louis w/o was holding up his notebook with dark pencil marks forming the words, "wait for me outside" Harry nodded, he was planning on asking him out in the first place.

The ten minutes ticked by endlessly, and throughout all Harry could hear was Louis sketching something out on his notebook with the amount of times he heard the movement of his pencil.

Finally, the door opened and Mr. Andrews stepped in. "Alright. Detention is up. 5 days are up. And I hope to never see you again in this room. Mr. Tomlinson, not a great way to start your time at this school. Mr. Styles- well I'm sorry for all the after school meet up's I ruined for you." Mr. Andrews looked at him blankly. Harry tried to hold back from rolling his eyes. "Well, no fighting! Next time it'll be two weeks detention and three day in school suspension. Got it?"

"Yes." Both the boys said at the same time. the teacher nodded and led them out. outside he parted and walked to the teachers lounge, leaving Harry and Louis to walk to their lockers in odd silence.

Harry lingered by his locker longer, Louis quickly grabbed his backpack and dropped his notebook in it. Harry closed his locker shut and they both stood there in slightly awkward silence. in the end Louis laughed softly and turned to Harry.

"Feels odd to not be going at each other don't you think?" Louis asked, he tilted his head to the side and grinned with a tiny shrug.

"Suppose so," Harry agreed. Louis hummed in response and walked over to him.

"Well, it's been a fun sentence to serve with you Harry Styles." Louis smiled up at Harry.

"Likewise," Harry smiled back, Louis' smile was just too infectious. Louis looked torn as if he wanted to say something. In the end he only smiled softly and turned away. "Wait!" Harry stammered out. It's been roughly two months with Louis hating him, and now that they were on slightly better terms Harry was not going to let the opportunity slip by.

"Yes?'' Louis inquired, turning back to him.

"Do you maybe- erm, quite possibly, like to get some erm, ice cream?'' Harry asked. he could have hit himself with how corny he sounded.

Louis' eyebrow rose, "like a date?''

"Like hanging out, and celebrating the fact that we are done in that hellhole of a room." Harry chuckled lightly.

"Alright. I have to stop by my house first though . I need to get money," Louis noted.

"Oh please. My treat! It was technically my fault you are here in the first place." Harry insisted.

"Alright...that is true." Louis stuck out his tongue at him and laughed afterwards. his eyes lighting up as well as crinkling at the side.

Harry thinks he could go his whole life with listening to Louis' laughs. Harry leads him to his car and Louis gets in, shooing Harry's hands away he tries to help him in. "I'm not a child Harold."

"Harry. I'm just Harry." Louis shakes his head.

"Harold." He said and Harry shook his head.

"So how's practice been?" Harry asked as he started the car.

"Well. I wouldn't know. I've missed this whole week's. I can't cheer at this week's game." Louis frowned.

"Shame. I'm sure you can find other fun things to do on a Friday night." Harry laughed at his own innuendo.

"Funny. so funny." Louis shook his head.

"I know. I'm such a riot! Hey, want to hear a joke?" Harry asked.

"Not particularly no." Louis knew it didn't quite matter if he wanted to or not.

"Well, too bad. are you familiar with American monuments?" Harry questioned.

"Sort of yes." Louis answered.

Laughing to himself Harry pulled up to the nearly empty ice cream parlor. He seemed almost full of laughter. "Okay okay! What 4 man rock group don't sing?''

Louis looked at him blankly. "How the bloody hell should I know?"

"Mount Rushmore! You know, 'cause they're made out of rock." And Harry laughed so loud, it was a deep laugh and full of humor. Louis found himself smiling only because Harry was laughing not at the bloody ridiculous joke.

Louis shook his head and got out of the car. Harry followed suit and joined Louis at the front door. they walked in together and Louis quickly regretted coming here.

There were only three cars in the parking lot but at least 2 dozen people from school occupying the seats. including Zayn and her. And it's not that Louis still had any feelings left towards Zayn, (he realised a long time ago it was more of a physical attraction rather than emotional or soul) it's just that, Zayn thinks Louis still isn't over him, and still thinks he can get Louis' attention. That and Louis just feels bloody ridiculous for having been played so easily. Harry of course was oblivious to the fact that the place had quieted down and were all staring at the new odd end pair who arrived.

"What would you like?" Harry asked as they neared the counter.

"I dunno. What's good around here?" Louis asked.

"Ooh. The half vanilla and half chocolate sundae with chocolate chips and caramel -"

"Sounds good!" Louis told him. Harry smiled hugely and started to order.

They walked together to a table towards the back ends and sat down. At first it was slightly quiet and awkward but Harry smiled so Louis didn't feel too forced to talk.

"So...um....wanna hear some corny pick up lines?" Harry wondered.

"No." Louis laughed, "but I have a feeling it doesn't matter whether I do or don't."

Harry smiled warmly, "Alright. I'll save those for the next time we hang out."

"Next time?"

"Well yeah, friends do that sort of thing."

"Oh, so now we're friends?" Louis questioned, his lips curling up slightly.

"Yeah. What do you think we are?" Harry asked.

Louis shrugged, "Friends. Duh. But just barely."

"Alright. I can work with that," Harry muttered.

Louis blushes and looked away. His blue eyes locked with a dark brown. He was amused to see he was still sporting a lightly colored black eye.

Harry looked in the same direction and laughed loudly. "Nice Lou."

"I told you nobody messes with me and gets away with it." Louis mumbled. .

their ice cream arrived and Louis' eyes lit up. They ate slowly, sometimes Harry would crack a pointless joke that couldn't help but make Louis laugh.

It's a right happy moment when Harry makes Louis laugh. something about seeing the prettiest boy's eyes crinkle, and head throw back slightly as the loveliest laughs escape his lips and knowing that he caused that just makes him feel quite happy himself.

It's at the end, when Louis is licking off his spoon, that he gets a bit of chocolate at the corner of his mouth. He's completely oblivious to it.

"Thank you so much Harry! I had fun. and you're jokes weren't that bad to be honest, just really corny." Louis laughs loudly, and well f-ck.

Harry leans over and captures Louis' chin in between his fingers. He hears Louis' sharp intake of breath.

"Just...can I?" Harry mumbled, his eyes flicker to Louis' lips. Louis blushes, his cheeks tinting a dark red. his eyelashes flutter shut, and the red tint to his cheeks is just too adorable.

It's barely audible, but it's there.

"Yes."

And Harry leans down, his eyes fluttering shut as well, and he presses his lips against Louis'. He licks over Louis' lips, and Louis parts them.

Harry pulls back before anything gets to be too much. And he doesn't want to rush it. He pulls back and his eyes flutter open, and well-

He catches a hint of a smile on Louis' face.
