Chapter 12 Breakfast

         Nathaniel's  POV:

He wakes up the next day and decides not to wake Chole.

He goes downstairs and fixes her something for breakfast.  Perhaps, this will cheer her up. He sure hopes so.

      Chole's  POV:

She sleeps so soundly she does not notice when Nathaniel gets up and goes to her kitchen.

She wakes up fifteen minutes later to the smell of coffee, tea, toast, juice, eggs. and toast.

She gets up, showers, changes into a fresh outfit, brushes her hair, puts in her contacts, and goes to see who it is in the downstairs part of her apartment.

          "Nathaniel?"

      Nathaniel's  POV:

"Chole, I thought you might be hungry. Hope you do not mind I cooked."

"Mind, why should I mind?  Thank you."

He blushes as she hugs him. He thinks you do not know how much you mean to me.

He sits across the table from her.

       Chole's  POV:

She eats in silence. She glances up to see Nathaniel staring at her.

She is glad to have the company. She feels embarrassed that he saw her so down the other night.  She hopes he does not resent their friendship. She wishes she knew if her hunch was right or not.

"You still on for 4 pm today?"

She sends the text to the anonymous number.

She does not hear any noises coming from Nathaniel's pocket.

She feels the disappointment set in once more. She dares not show it.

         Mystery Man's  POV;

He is glad that his phone is put in silent mode.

He recalls he muted it last night so that no one would wake him up.

Today is his day off and he has no intentions of letting anyone disturb him from work.

"Yes, of course, I will do anything for you."

          Chole's POV:

"Yes, I know."  She types into her phone and clicks send.

"Nathaniel, you seem quiet is anything the matter?"

"No, it just so happens today is my day off."

Chole smiles. She can not explain why but she is glad his day off is the same day she has off from work.

             "Are you better now? "

               "The breakfast was delicious, Nathaniel."

        Nathaniel's  POV:

"I am glad you enjoyed the meal."

"I asked if you were feeling better?  Are you?"

He leans against the kitchen counter as she washes the dishes.

           Mystery Man's  POV:
"Chole, you had a friend over, right?"

"Is he one of your best friends?"

           Chole's  POV:
Chole finishes with the dishes. As she dries some cups and puts them away, she hears her phone ding twice.

"Yes, I did, but it was not planned."

" Yes, but how did you know?"

           Mystery Man's  POV:

"I am smarter than you give me credit, love."

He thinks it is a good thing she did not turn around.

He knows they meet up in a few hours. He hopes she will be happy.

If only he were a better man, maybe then he would have told her sooner.

          Chole's POV:
She thinks he did not forget me after all.

She hums as she dries off the rest of the dishes and stores them.

      Nathaniel's  POV:

He thinks how is she so beautiful?  He never thought she would be that grateful for something so small as breakfast. It was not that good. He was a horrible cook. For one thing, he burnt the toast.

He sees her turn around now.

     "Chole?"

     "Y-yes," She mutters.

He pulls her close. He kisses her cheek again.

"I am sorry to leave like this."

    He frowns.

"Oh, you have to go, but I thought we could hang out."

"Okay, we will hang out then. "

"Great!  Oh, and you need not worry about lunch. I will take care of it."

Nathaniel sees the sparkle in her eyes. He can tell she is happy. He hopes it is because of him.

"You look gorgeous in that outfit!"

"Oh, this old thing, surely you jest!" Chole laughs.  She wears a yellow dress, the same sandals as the day before, her hair down, and a necklace with a bright yellow sunflower in the middle of it.

"I would never joke about a thing like that Chole. Also, the necklace goes well with your curls."

He twirls a strand around his left thumb. He thinks I better stop before she suspects anything.
