Thoughts [Revenge is sweet]

I can't ask Jessica. No, she wouldn't approve. Who else? Oh my God, I don't have many close friends. I can't ask Jacob because that little snitch will go and blab to Jess who will go ballistic, thinking I'm turning over to the dark side. Like Dumbledore with Tom Riddle. Maybe I'll let her know after Operation Destroy Harley starts. Yeah.

What about Connor? Hmm, I guess we are friends now. I can't really understand how we weren't ever friendly before seeing that he's actually pretty sweet. And cute.

Wait, what?

Megan frowned and closed her eyes. Immediately an image of Connor in his beige coloured beanie, characteristic plaid shirt and acid-wash jeans, smiling at her in anticipation, ever sweetly, ever supportively. He always listened. He listened to not only her orders at the bakery, her bakery lessons and groans but also how her day went, how she felt, what she wanted for herself, her plans for the future and slowly, she realised something.

Connor knew all about her and she didn't know a thing about him. She didn't know how his days went, how he felt, what he wanted, whether he liked someone, what he wanted to do in the future. She didn't know a damn thing about him. Even when he talked, it was about her, her friends, her Dad.

Hmm, I wonder what he's hiding. He's probably a clever drug dealer or something. Wait, does this mean, our bakery is a drug drop place? I'm pretty sure that stuffy Lola Braganza isn't just a bakery owner BUT a drug lord? Omg, that makes total sense.

Well, this can only mean one thing! If Connor is an experienced drug dealer, he can totally help me take revenge from Harley. Vendetta, starring Megan Jackson and Connor Trent. Trailers out now. Muahahahah. Sounds like a recipe for success. Yesss.

She went to the bakery once again earning a surprised look from Mrs. Braganza for coming in on a non-work day.

"How come you've started coming even on the days you're not supposed to work?" she asked, suspiciously. "If you think I'm going to pay you overtime, forget it. Connor boy manages fine on your off-days."

"First, he can't bake to save his life. Second, I'm not here for overtime. I came to talk to your Connor boy," Megan glared.

Mrs. Braganza peered over the counter, "You seem to do that a lot nowadays. Is there something going on between you two?"

Megan rolled her eyes. Demented old witch.

"OH MY! You guys aren't doing the dirty in my kitchen are you!?" Mrs. Braganza asked with an exaggeratedly shocked gesture.

Megan didn't reply and banged the kitchen door shut behind her.

Mrs. Braganza laughed after her and said to herself, "I love teasing this girl." She looked out of the windows thoughtfully, "Megan Jackson and Connor Trent, huh? What could come off it I wonder? I'd say he'd hopelessly fall in love with her if she let him, she'd be surprised to know that she will love him right back but no, it's next to impossible. She's too self centred to notice he's dying inside, every day a little more. He's too much of a coward to fight back whatever it is that so troubles him at home." She shook herself out of her reverie and shivered, "What's happening to you, Lola? Not getting pessimistic are you?"

Inside the kitchen, Megan found Connor sitting beside his little sister, Jules. Both were poring over what looked like a really scary page of Maths homework.

"Hey, Batman!" Megan greeted the little girl. "How's my favourite seven year old?"

Jules screeched, temporarily deafening her brother and getting up, ran to hug Megan, "I'm awesome. Joker's in hiding. Gotham City and all its mortals are safe thanks to me and my worthy sidekick."

"Thank you, my hero," Megan laughed. "And thank you, Robin."

Connor scowled, "You're welcome. I still don't get why I am Robin."

"Don't worry, Robin is the cute one. Besides, your alter ego is Dick," she laughed harder. "Get it? Dick? Nothing can trump that."

"There were other Robins too, you know? Apart from Dick Grayson," he retorted, his ears getting pink.

"Oh c'mon, Dick Grayson was my favourite," she said, her laughter subsiding into smiles. "So, Jules, what are you studying?"

Jules scowled, "Subtraction. I just can't seem to get it."

"Aren't you too tiny to be doing subtraction?"

Connor patted Jules' curls, "Oh you'll get it in no time. You're a genius, kid."

"But Dad says I'm a piece of shit," she replied.

Megan sucked in a breath and looked up shocked.

Connor swallowed, "Hey, hey, come here. You know, he doesn't mean it. You're the most wonderful person I know and you can ask Megan, I know lots of people so you're the special one. And believe me," he smiled. "I couldn't even add when I was your age, let alone subtract. So, yes you're a genius and you know what else? You're my Batman."

Jules smiled, "Okay, okay no need to go all mushy on me, Robin."

He looked at Megan, pleading her to not ask and for once in her life, Megan did as she was told. She was too shocked to do anything otherwise.

Later when Connor was setting back all the containers and cleaning up the counters, Megan was teaching Jules how to subtract and it was working.

"Oh wow, I can't believe I actually got one right," the girl said, excitedly. "You're amazing."

"That I am," Megan smirked.

"So," began Jules. "Are you and Connor best friends?"

Megan looked bemused, "Uh why?"

"Because he is the happiest when around you? I mean, he was so miserable today and then you came and he suddenly becomes so happy. I-I want a best friend too, someone who can make me happy but I don't have many friends."

Megan took a deep breath, "My best friend is a girl called Jessica. I don't have many friends just like you but I have her no matter what. She is the reason for my happiness, my confidence, my smile. Wanna know when I met her?"

Jules nodded vigorously.

"I met her during nursery school."

"And you became best friends?"

"No, we became friends. Somewhere along the journey to here, we became best friends. I knew it for sure only during fourth standard when we protected each other from the local bully. Bloody Sarah. I'll never forget how mean she was. So, the moral of the story is...best friendship happens on its own. You'll find your best friend too."

"Promise?"

"Promise."
