The ride with Erika had been mostly silent so far but Jon didn't mind much. It was almost relaxing except for one thing; he wasn't sure if Erika felt awkward if he didn't talk. Jon glanced over at her only to find that she glanced at him at the same time.
"Boy, I guess we really are twins!" She exclaimed with a laugh. Jon smiled widely. She didn't feel awkward. "I guess so. You know... I really was suprised this morning!" Jon called across the roar of their motorcycles.
The conversation soon melted back into a refreshing silence untill Lasky called out "Baker. That car a little ways ahead of us. See it?" "Yeah but what about it?" "Well the way the guy in the back seat is leaning forward and the driver keeps checking his mirror"
Jon looked again, closer this time. She was right. "Let's check it out" The two officers slipped into the lane behind the blue mercury cougar. Almost Imeadiately the car rabbited and swerved across the road.
Jon, forgetting that Erika was new, took off in a pursuit leaving her no choice but to follow. They weaved in and out of traffic trying to catch the car and yet stay away from it's dangerous motions.
"LA 7-mary-3 in pursuit of blue 1967 mercury license-" Suddenly a shot echoed through the air making Erika jump in her seat. "LA shots fired!" The car made a sharp turn to the shoulder and spun dangerously close to the edge.
The two officers pulled over as the driver got out of the car and dove to the ground. The guy in the back climbed out of an open window, jumped over the rail, and ran. "Freeze!" Erika shouted; her gun pointed to the man.
Knowing he'd been caught he stopped and put his hands in the air. "Drop the gun" He hesitated "Drop it now!" The man threw his gun down and kicked it away. Obviously he'd been through this before.
"Cover me" Erika said before trotting over to the man. Jon just touched his gun ready to draw. In all his years on the patrol he'd never actually had to use it so it was kind of shocking that Erika had drawn her's already.
All of the sudden it occurred to Jon that he was the senior CHP officer here and that Erika shouldn't have participated in the chase. Yet he couldn't help but be very impressed in her ability to take control of a situation with so much ease.
Sirens blared from a patrol car that screeched to a stop just a ways behind them. Erika escorted their unwelcome guest to the car as Jon went to confront the driver. "You alright?" He asked as the man stood up.
"Yeah I guess so. Man I tell ya it was like somethin out of a movie! People are crazy. He just came right up behind me and told me to drive!" "Yeah well you're alright though?" "Yeah yeah... just a little scared is all. Crazy people" Jon chuckled before going to his motor to wait for the new officer.
As Erika approached Jon saw that she looked pretty shaken herself. She leaned against the seat and looked at the ground.
"Hey" she looked up "are you ok Miss Lasky? I know that was a lot to handle" Erika smiled weakly "I've seen worse. And you don't have to call me that. Erika is fine- or better yet... call me T.T. It stands for Tiny Terror. It's a nickname of mine."
Jon nodded happily. All broken rules temporarily forgotten.
Though she still looked shaken and Baker suspected there was more to it than she was admitting, he decided to let it go. If Erika wants to talk about it she will then Jon thought for a moment Tiny Terror?... he smiled Tiny Terror.
