Baker wandered though the emergency doors of Rampart Hospital with a bouquet of flowers. He had been very distressed to find that at the LAPD, Sergeant Malloy didn't exist.
Jon bit his lip and walked aimlessly down the hall. Sergeant Malloy.... Sergeant Malloy... if it isn't a person then what? I'm sure I got the right station! It's not her dad... did she mean Getraer for some reason and just got it mixed up-
"Whoa young man!" A nurse exclaimed breaking him out of his thoughts. Jon looked down to find a older blonde nurse in his path carrying a bundle of boxes. "Oh! I'm so sorry Miss! You would think being a cop in a hospital, I'd be more careful..." Jon said embarrassed.
He helped her carry the boxes to a nearby counter careful not to crush the pink bouquet.
Radios and phones crowded the space along with neatly stacked files and clipboards. Medicine cabinets covered the back wall.
"Now" the nurse said with a smile after setting down her load of boxes, "what can I help you with?" She looked up at Jon as he fixed his hair in the front. "Uh well I'm trying to find someone Miss..." "Just Dixie. Who are you thing to find?"
Jon looked at his feet shyly and a smile tugged at his lips as his cheeks turned hot and pink. "Uh heh a woman... named Lasky; Erika" Dixie grinned mischievously. "Oh yeah? Well you're in the right place. Miss Lasky is upstairs; room 203"
Jon's eyes lit up and he set a quick pace for the elevator. "Thanks!" He exclaimed just before the doors closed.
Dixie chewed on the end of her pen in thought.
"Pen-ny for your thoughts?" Dr. Brackett chuckled picking up a clipboard. Dixie raised an eyebrow "Don't you mean punny for your thoughts?" He shook his head but then looked up suspicious of her smile.
"What are you up to Dix?" "Oh nothing... just... saw someone who knows how to treat a lady" Dixie shrugged as the head docter's blue eyes widened.
"Hey! I treat you-" the nurse raised an eyebrow again and he tripped over his words. "I mean we talk... and go places" Dixie laughed. "Oh I'm just teasing you Kell. An officer just came in here with these gorgeous pink orchids and roses for Erika Lasky"

"Heh... hello?" Jon said nervously and his knuckles lightly touched the door. "Come in" a voice called lightly.
Erika was lying with her eyes half closed in a fuzzy pink robe. Her curled, golden, hair was sprawled out on the pillow and slippers, to match the robe, we're perched at the end of the bed. Her cheeks were colored rose along with her lips. She looks... beautiful...
"Oh, hello Jonathan" she said with a sleepy smile trying to look a little more alert and less hurt than she was.
"Wow... hi. I mean... these are for you" Baker hastily placed the flowers gently in her arms. Her eyes widened and she brought her free hand to her mouth; the other connected to a bag of blood. It's ridiculously adorable how excited she is
"Jon, thank you! These are my favorite flowers... in my favorite color! Oh Jon how did you know?"
Jon blushed and adjusted the collar of his blue turtleneck. "I stopped by to check on your boys and they told me, actually" Erika clicked her tonge and tilted her head. "You're so sweet" He chuckled and bit his lip. "Well you're looking... well"
Erika laughed making his heart melt. "I really don't like hospitals very much so I try to make it as comfortable as I can." "I don't like hospitals either!" Baker exclaimed, "Though, I never really thought about making it comfortable. Oh! I uh- I couldn't get a hold on Sergeant Malloy by the way"
Erika traced a flower petal with confusion. "Sergeant- Oh! Baker, It's my fault. I meant Sergeant MacDonald and Pete Malloy."
"Oh no! I'm really sorry"
"No no! It's my fault and they showed up anyway"
Jon laughed at his own mistake and Erika soon joined in before it melted away into silence. She looked up with those sparkling, baby blue, eyes. "Thank you... for making me laugh and for the flowers... and for checking on my kids... and for just... being there"
Erika brushed a hand across his cheek making him smile. Keep it together Jon. Keep it together. Just ask... calmly. "Uh Erika...? I was wondering if... well... I guess..."
"Yes?"
"There's this thing..."
"Uh-huh?"
"That I've been meaning to ask..."
Erika's heart fluttered. Oh keep it together Erika! Stay calm. Just let him talk... "Sure. Sure. Ask me... anything"
"I wanted to ask..."
"I'm listening"
"Wi- will uh- will you... tell me where you buy most of your tack for your horses?"
Both young officers had to hide their disapointment. "Oh... yeah. Barns and stables. Really uh really great... tack" Erika said faking a smile. "Oh good good..."
They sat in akward silence before Jon sighed. "I'm guess I better get home" he said lowering his head.
"Or... you could stay and- and we could talk. Just for a little while longer? I really don't like it here" Erika suggested suppressing a shiver and closing her robe tighter.
Jon's eyes softened and he smiled warmly. "Of course"
