Chapter 23
Zera
I pulled away from Cassian. I was happy that he was beside in this fight, though I wasn't sure which one of us would come out alive. Most likely not me. I still smiled though.
I took out my gun looking over to the others beside me giving them a slight nod. We could at least get inside the building maybe losing an assassin or two. Even if that was half the squad, our mission for now was to get Cassian inside.
Each assassin stepped down from the ledge, making their way to the entrance. My knife slid down from my sleeve, arming me just in case we had a small surprise.
We opened the latch. Looking down it was mainly an empty hallway. Some soldiers dead. Most likely Cassian's doing. I rolled my eyes at the thought and watched the first three assassins jump down the small hole. I jumped down after, then soon after Cassian landed beside me.
Looking down the hallway it was still clear. Only problem was that I could hear footsteps coming. Many footsteps. "You three take care of them, I'll protect Cassian." The each nodded.
"I guess I need a babysitter now," he said sarcastically. Sometimes I wonder with this guy.
"Our job is just to get you to Z alive, alright?" It wasn't an actual question, but he understood without another word. We really didn't need his sarcasm right now.
I saw a guard coming up behind us and threw a knife at them. Seems the others are going down. I looked back to Cassian who was already walking off. I followed quickly behind him, checking behind us every now and then to make sure no other guard was coming.
I took my gun from my belt, checking the amount of bullets left. Two. When we had climbed the side of the building, I shot a few guards trying to shoot us. Of course I had forgotten to bring more bullets. I only had a few more throwing knives before I was running off on my bare fists.
This was either gonna end well or extremely horrible. The footsteps down the hallway seemed to be getting closer to us. Time was ticking.
Cassian
"Just keep running, worse comes to worse I kill them." I said as Zera kept looking back behind us. I just kept running, hoping to find Z quickly. I was also just worried. I mean, what if I couldn't do it? What if I couldn't kill Z?
That didn't matter. If I've killed thousands of people in seconds, I can kill one in a night. We kept running to his room, but the guards were catching up to us slowly. By the time we reached the door, you could hear the guards marching the stairs.
As I went to open the door, I got slashed. Luckily it was my metal arm, so no one can injure me there. I heard somebody mutter something along the lines of "goddamn arm." As I fully opened the door, Z was waiting for us, with stone cold face. "Should've figured my ungrateful son would try this eventually. Just a matter of time. So if you are actually going to do this, don't expect me to hesitate when I'm slitting your throat, okay?"
He hopped out of the window onto the roof and we followed in pursuit. As I hopped up onto the very top, he threw a knife, which cut my face, but didn't do any real damage. "And so it begins, the classic battle of father vs. son." I said before Zera hopped up behind me, which really killed the mood.
We did a lot of just hand-to-hand combat before either of us actually pulled out our knives and started to attempt to stab each other. Problem was, we were both so evenly matched neither of us could do any real damage, besides small cuts and scrapes. Zera just kinda stood there leaning against a wall watching us fight, while I didn't mind her admiring me, it would've been nice to have help.
" Thanks a lot for helping, Zera. Maybe you should do something, Zera. Maybe you should not let me die-oh shit-, Zera. that would be nice." I said sarcastically. Z smiled, and then laughed. "But why would she want to kill her real father?"
