Chapter 17
Zera
I heard something by my door, and made my way slowly to it, checking the peep hole, but didn't see anything. I opened the door anyways to check if anyone had left something. I did see someone turn the corning down the hallway, but I only caught a glimpse of white hair. It kinda reminded me of Cassian's hair.
I sighed about to close the door, but I caught a glimpse of something on the floor. I bent down, trying not to fall over, to pick up the note. When I read though, it wasn't what I had been expecting.
'The Place' this note had addressed was the first place me and Adrian had met, in the forest. Though I had no intention of meeting him, I didn't have a good feeling about it. Adrian, was my guard, to meet him anywhere outside of any work type place was inappropriate. Plus, there was only one person I could ever see like that.
I tore the note to shreds and threw it away, going back to the kitchen to go over the file again. One thing was for sure., If I didn't die during this mission, Cassian would kill me instead.
Heading over to my bathroom I took some more of my pills and put some into my belt just in case. My legs seem to be feeling better, but only time would tell. I went over to my closet to grab my clothing for this mission. I took a map from my belt of the third legion. The map was fairly small, but it was just big enough to contain the blueprints of the main building where Z would be.
Marking every vent of the building I found a good place to enter and probably a good place on where to find Z. The vents in the building were big enough for me. I should know, I've escaped through them before. Most of the vent entries would have guards, but I know for a fact that the one by the forest would not be guarded. The center of the building would most likely where he would be. My only problem was Cassian. He was someone I couldn't run into. It wasn't a big problem to go against. him even though I don't know who would win. The only bad thing was i don't think I would be able to fight him period.
I folded the map and put it into my belt without a second thought. I needed to get some rest for now because tonight I was going to the third legion alone.
Heading to my bedroom I started to realize how empty my home was. Reminded of The Dome in a way. In the end I was going to need an escape because I don't know how much longer I could live here, doing what I do. I laid down on the covers, not caring about much. Though sleep came quickly the dream came even faster.
Falling. I was falling again. This time though I could hear my shouting through my own deafness. The midnight sky was so dark. So dark that maybe death was somewhere in that sky. Right as I was gonna hit the ground everything turned white. It was just like that day. When I felt arms catch me I knew I was in that day. I looked up to see Cassian with a sinister smile, then I felt it. The pain coursing through my abdomen. Looking down I saw the blood spilling and dripping on the floor watching as everyone around us, was laughing.
Cassian
I knew what today was. The day I was dreading, and father knew that. Today was the day the legions launched their assassin's all on us. Me, father, and many more were the targets, and we knew this. But the person who was targeting father, or Z as they know him, was Zera. and Zera, well she was my target.
We set up guards at every post except one, on purpose. Because the point of tonight was to show the power the 3LA held, and that we weren't afraid of anything. That's why Zera was going to reach the top floor, only to find herself dead soon after.
And that's exactly what happened. Around the middle of the night, the attack began. The guards reported noises in the vents and then were not heard from again. After it was announced that there were intruders, that's when it began. Shots rang through the house, and multiple people died on both ends. But no sign of Zera.
The battle was over very quickly. Our guards were specifically trained to kill assassins, so they didn't stand a chance. Twenty out of twenty five assassins were reported dead, whereas we had thirteen casualties, and 5 injured. But still no sign of Zera. I literally was sitting on fathers bed, waiting for her, but she didn't show during the attack. Which meant she was supposed to show when the attack was "over".
And sure enough, it happened. I heard a screech as something dragged across the metal, and that's how I knew. As Zera hopped down, she was met with a knife to the head, and I showed no mercy either. But as I looked at the eyes, they weren't Zeras. They were green. God dammit where the hell is Zera! I just want to get this over with as painlessly as possible, for both of us.
As I went to lay down on the bed, happy Zera didn't show, she decided to show. She hopped through the window, which means she was on the roof. As she did, I unbuckled my knife, feeling the smooth, worn, round hilt. She saw me and she went pale.
"No, no, why are you here! Why you!? Your not Z, are you?" She was completely off guard, and she almost seemed terrified. "No, thought I will be the next one. We knew you were coming so we prepped. And you, funny enough, you, are my target. And this is the last room you, will, ever, see."
