Chapter 16
Zera
Luckily enough I had escaped them. Making it back to the first legion the next day was hard especially since the security was slightly hard to escape from, but also because my pain pills didn't last long.
Adrian was there to meet me at the capital and to help me home. He was against me going in the assignment so soon, but I did it anyways, because honestly I couldn't help myself. It was something I could do well.
I laid on my couch writhing in pain. I couldn't move my legs, it was too painful. I hadn't realized that the pain would come back. Adrian was gone to see the founder about a few things. I needed someone here. I felt weak almost, like whenever I had that dream. The dream I hadn't had, since I met Cassian. It hadn't haunted me since I met him.
Adrian walked into my apartment, and threw a file onto the coffee table in front of me. When I looked at him he didn't seemed to pleased with me. I knew why he was angry, it was written on my face, which was filled with pain. I looked away from him as another sharp pain ran through my legs. It was almost like being stabbed in the leg. He walked around the couch and lifted my upper body up, so I was sitting. He took took white caplets from his pocket, and gave them to me.
After taking the pills it didn't take me long to figure out what they were. It was pretty obvious. Pain pills. Though I felt the pain still, it was bearable. He got up and laid me back done went and grabbed my cane, then placing it against the table he placed a bottle of pills on the table and left without a single word. I never felt more alone than I did when he was here. He only proved how weak I really was. Adrian, was a nice guy, but in the end he wasn't my friend, just a mere acquaintance who had to watch over me as my guard. He could never be my friend. It was basically written in stone.
When the pain faded enough to stand, I got up and walked over to my kitchen, deciding to make something to eat. Though when I got there on the counter, there was another file and a bag of take out food. Adrian must've brought it, but how come I didn't notice? The pain seems to be getting to me.
I ate the food in silence while going over the file they had given me. When I looked at the picture though, what I saw wasn't what I had been expecting to see. It was him. The same man who took Cassian when we were in the third legion. He's the same one that made him believe in something I hadn't even had a thought of doing. Though the file didn't give a name it only said, "Z," it was confusing as to why it said this, but I didn't care at this point. Only anger fueled through me at this point. Cassian was my closest friend. The only one I felt I could truly trust, and he's gone to the man he was closer to. Sad to think such a thing could happen, but it was inevitable. That we would become enemies. I only had to fill my part and be his too. Though in the end when it comes to killing him I may not be able to kill Cassian. Not when I'm about to kill Z.
Cassian
As I went to tell father my mission was finished, he met me halfway, at the front door to the tower. "My son, I see you've completed your task an entire day early. Well done, well done indeed. Listen I know you probably want to discuss some things, like future targets, but I want you to take today completely off. No communication with me or the third legion, just you and the world."
Unfortunately, I didn't get a choice in the matter, I mean they kicked me out the second father finished speaking, which is Bull. I wanted to talk to father, and I shouldn't be stopped by some red uniformed bastards! I tried to hop the gate, but found that fruitless as the steel doors that are the entrance to the tower were locked and bolted shut. "Damn third legion, idiots, imbeciles-" The list of insults I threw at that door went on for about thirty seconds, and then I got bored.
At first I had no clue where to go, I mean most of the third legion consisted of gun stores, military camps, and graveyards. People weren't friendly either. To be fair, there was no freedom of speech in the third legion, and the punishment for speaking against the 3LA (third legion and associates) was court martial, which would almost guaranteed lead to death.
I went to the fourth legion almost immediately. It was getting later in the day, but father probably didn't expect me back until the next day. By the time I actually got deep into the legion, most of the people had already gone home or left for night jobs. I looked around town, and found a small bar by the name of "The Lonely Friend" I walked inside somewhat eagerly, as it had been almost 4 months since I had had a nice Crapps to drink.
I of course ordered a Crapps, and they handed it over fairly quickly. Man the drink brought back memories, the times me and Z spent, just talking about the Earth and future plans. Those were the good times, and only one moment beat it, only a single moment could ever beat that one. Meeting Zera.
As I ordered a second Crapps someone else walked in. He sat down as well. "Come on, you know my usual, I shouldn't even have to ask anymore, so hand me my Crapps if you may." He had brown hair and deep hazel eyes. "So why you here?" He asked me intently. "I don't know to be honest. I guess just to relax. You?" I asked. He looked familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it. "Man this is my favorite place in town. Good place to relax, and always someone to talk to." We both sat silently for a minute. "Hey, ya mind helping me with something?" He seemed a little serious. "Sure man, I mean I got nothing else to do right now." I wasn't lying there, I really didn't have much to do with my life, plus if he was part of the government, he could help me out with my plan. "Can you tell someone to meet me at 'The Place'? She'll know what I mean. Even a note will work, I just don't got time to ask her."
I was hesitant at first, I mean I'm not a delivery man, but at the same time, I know where he's coming from. "Yeah just give me the address and I'll do it. Also what's your name? Just curious." He handed a slip of paper with the address on it. "Thank you so much man. And it's, Adrian, nice to meet ya. Hey what do you say about meeting up again? Just to let off steam, y'know?" I smiled, and I mean actually smiled, and said, "Sure man, anytime."
And with that I bid him adoo. As I went to where the address stated, I thought about actually having a friend. I've never really had one, and the only one I might have had backstabbed me, so having someone to talk to would be nice. As I reached the address, which looked way way to familiar, I dropped the note off, and went home.
As I laid in bed that night, it all hit me. That address, it was the same address that started this all. It was Zera's apartment address.
