Chapter 15
Zera
"Well Zeraphina, you're in the orphanage section of the Dome. The smallest section throughout this whole building. You have been examined though. Both your legs are broken and you have a sprained wrist." The woman told me. Her eyes I noticed were mysterious. There was nothing almost empty.
I nodded and looked down at my legs noticing an odd bend in both of them. I didn't move them afraid, of the pain I would've felt.
A few days later a couple came by. Their eyes held pity as they saw me, but the woman smiled, a sad smile," Zeraphina, we're going to be taking you home with us." I was tempted to smile at this news. I don't remember having parents, so this feels new.
Soon after they admitted me to the hospital. Going through the cat scans was a faded memory by the time I laid down in the hospital bed resting.
"The bad news is dear child. You won't be able to use your legs for years maybe never." The nurse admitted her eyes held sadness for me as she told me this news. I looked at my mother and father then started to cry. Why did this have to happen to me?
Walking out the restaurant I wiped the blood on my knife on my pants. I walked over to my motorcycle and looked around catching a certain abnormal color of pearl white hair. He was here. I shook my head keeping my down.
I wasn't completely healed, so I had to use this almost foreign machinery though I've felt I've seen it before they taught me how to ride it.
Looking over someone shoved me over. Damn, these people really are in havoc. I grabbed the man who tried throwing a punch at me and got him in a headlock. I kept him there until I broke his neck dropping his dead body. More guards started to notice me. That woman was more protected than I thought I grabbed my other dagger from my belt. I couldn't take many of these guards by myself and I left my gun in the bag on the side of the motorcycle. I couldn't reach now without being shot. I grabbed a few pain pills quickly and swallowed them right as a guard charged at me.
I took the guard and shoved him around, then stabbed two guards behind me. I slammed my knee against my motorcycle trying to get feeling before running towards the building and climbed up to the roof to escape. I reached for the back of my belt and threw a bomb at the guards and kept running until I stopped at the edge of the building.
Cassian
I had finished my mission two days early, so I decided to explore the world I had "been a part of" for almost a year. After all, this was going to be demolished with the empire, so I should enjoy it while it lasts.
I started with the 2nd Legion, where I was currently located. It was a farming legion, mostly populated with well, farming. Despite that the food in the area was outstanding, and unlike anything I'd ever tasted before. I had some fish, which I didn't know was edible, and It made my mouth burn with an indescribable undertaste. They called it "spices" which made sense considering how hot it was. Besides that however, the 4th legion was very bland. Grey skies, no colourful signs or buildings, and it reeked of gas.
Later that day, evening closing in, I went to the innards of the 1st legion. Despite the fact I lived there, I never went into town. Saying the people were nice would be an understatement. The first time I asked someone for directions, they gladly offered to show me around town and to give me a good place to stay the night. I really had no choice but to accept the, as I was dead broke.
The family that hosted me was also very social. They asked about my name, where I was from and why I was here. I was partially honest. I told them that I wasn't from here, I came from another place, now destroyed and left in ruins. I told them I was here to see this place, in fear it too might be destroyed. I also mentioned I was looking for a specific someone, someone who was a friend but was now an enemy.
They seemed to understand, and talking to them actually really helped me out with making a decision.
In the middle of the night I woke up to tiny footsteps. As I saw a small head poke around the corner. It was the little girl that was with the family.
"Excuse me sir?" She seemed shy, yet she had the courage to talk to a complete stranger in the middle of the night. She was either courageous or stupid, maybe a bit of both.
" Aren't you supposed to in bed sweetie? Your parents probably don't want you talking to me or being up this late, and I don't want you or me to be in trouble." I didn't want to be mean or try to brush her off, but I'm realistically not even supposed to be here, much less discussing my life to some civilians.
" It's just that, right now my family isn't a good one. They always argue, and people come and take me away sometimes. I was wondering, how do I stay strong, like you did when your family died?" He had a sincere tone to his voice, and his situation reminded him of me. How could I destroy his entire world when he was already suffering a world of pain. And to think I'm destroying an entire civilization of people, just like him?
" Just always be ready. Tough up, and don't let anyone get close enough to hurt you. Stay quiet and find out who you are I guess, that's what I did."
I left that night leaving a note with the location of my small farm and a stream nearby. And I told them to suck their problems up, because their child, was going through more pain than they could imagine. But because of that kid, I realized something. That no empire deserves to fall, even it is as bad as the Dome. I planned to dismantle the 3rd Legion before it could destroy anything else.
