Chapter 14

Zera

It took a little over a day to get back to the capital. When I did get back though saying that I was physically exhausted would've been an understatement. Adrian had greeted me when I made it home, but he wasn't pleased. He couldn't say much before I passed out in the chair I was sitting in when he was lecturing me. Apparently one of the assassins largest ambassadors was killed. The next day when I had completely rested. He couldn't say much then either since I was needed.

Now I sat in the meeting room with the founder sitting in front of me. His face showed a sign of disapoint. "I'm glad you came back safely." He said softly breaking the silence around us.

"Why didn't you tell me that Cassian was in the first legion?" I asked leaning back in my chair flinching a bit as I pressed against one of my bruises. I didn't get out of the third legion without being unscathed of course.

"You see now the answer why." He said his eyes narrowing watching me closely,

I sighed and nodded, "I'm your tormentor and assassin, so what would you have me do?" I asked sitting up straight.

He slid a file over to me, "You'll go after this woman once you've fully recovered. I know your legs haven't completely gotten better." He got up and left swiftly.

I knew he was right. Ever since I'd gotten back I've been using a cane. Can't help it. I closed my eyes remembering.

I looked between the mysterious man in a grey suit carrying me. I couldn't feel my legs. Everything around was white. Fear ran through my body as I didn't recognize anyone. I didn't know anyone. I don't remember.

Many people wearing white suits came up to the person carrying me and started yelling at him using words I was too young to understand. Before I knew it darkness consumed me.

When I woke up white walls surround me. I laid in a bed not too comfortable against my back. I used my upper body strength to put myself in a sitting position.

"Hello young one. I am Jesslyn." The woman before me had light brown hair that barely fell past her shoulders. Her hazel eyes stared back at my blue eyes. She wore a white dress that fitted her body. Her smile was beautiful. "May I ask who your parents are?" She asked kindly.

"I don't remember." I mumbled almost to where she couldn't hear me.

"Do you remember your name?" She tilted her head slightly at the next question in curiosity.

"Zeraphina."

Cassian

One kill down, two more to go. They all seemed to just be politicians who believed what they were doing was right, giving all the power to one person.

I didn't want to destroy 2 civilizations, but if they are all corrupted dictatorships, I'll slay everyone with my bare hand and my knife.

I was walking in the 4th legion, the mining legion, looking for my target and some food. Supposedly this was his favorite food market in the legions, and he also had a meeting set here today, so this was the perfect opportunity to make my kill.

As I was eating my jockan, a type of meat, I saw my target. He was discussing something with a lady, probably stock related. As I went to start walking over I noticed a peculiar woman doing the same.

I wasn't alone. Someone else was either protecting or after one of the two people at that table, and that wasn't good either way. I stopped walking and thankfully I did because as the Assassin walked up to the woman my target was negotiating with, she ran a blade across the back of her throat and that was all she wrote.

Panic soon followed after. The crowd got so chaotic I almost lost my target, but before he could escape, I chucked one of my cheap throwing knives at him, slicing his neck open. I then pursued the other assassin.

At first I found her movements confusing. She relied on her arms to move her around more than her legs. What gave the identity away was when she put her head down and nodded.

Only one person would be that way about killing and still do it. I threw a tracker on her belt and then left to find my next target.

He ended up "killing himself" before I could. A shot through the head of a completely neutral politician. He hated both sides of the war, the 3rd legion and associates, and the current government. I didn't think his death was by his own hands, rather someone with the same target.

My question was why did he, or she rather, want to kill those two people?
