Chapter 13

Zera

"Cassian!" I yelled as I saw them take him. I needed to get away from them. I struggled as they pulled me around the corner. I felt a surge of adrenaline and slammed the guard holding me into a wall. I kicked the other guard to my right down. They both tried to come at me. I slammed one guard's head against my knee and shoved the palm of my hand into the ther guard''s nose.

The guard that was holding me was knocked out. Though the other was holding his bloody nose muttering curses under his breath. I drop kicked him and stood quickly to stomp my foot against his chest watching as the air was forced out his lungs.

I pressed the compartment in my boot and put my dagger together. I closed the compartment and unbuckled my belt, I turned it inside outside out while making some adjustment watching closely to it turning into a whip. I looked at the guard under my foot, "Tell me. What did you do with Cassian?" I seethed.

He didn't answer, but just stared in bewilderment. "I'll make this a lot more painful then it has to be." I hit my whip against the floor watching him flinch as it landed close to his face, "So?"

He shuddered and glared, "I'll tell you just don't kill me." His words came out slowly and I nodded my response.

"He was informed that you were going to kill him and had joined our legion. Our leader is in a sense close to Cassian." He watched me carefully as he finished and I smiled leaning down so he could me.

"I am an assassin right?" I whispered and slit his throat. I didn't watch as he died. I don't take joy in that. Never have. Jumping into one of the vents I started to make my escape. This time for the first time since I met Cassian I felt alone. I felt a warm tear slide down my cheek.. Deep down I knew I was hurt, but I can't blame him all the evidence was there. Truth is I never planned to kill him, but now i have to accept him as my enemy.

It took a few hours, but I made it out the building and into the forest. I just needed to get back to the capital before anyone else found me. I was walking following my map when I fell. Using my upper body strength I moved enough to lean myself against a tree. I looked down at my legs sighing. The accident years ago. Even now my legs haven't fully healed. I should've known. I may not remember the accident, but I know the damage done.

Soon everything slowly faded to black.

Cassian

I woke up the next day to silence. I didn't like silence. Nor did I like the fact I was alone. I reached in my pocket grab my knife just in case. As I walked to where the dining room was supposed to be, I met Z along the way.

"Why hello there Cassian. Did you enjoy the night?" His face seemed too sincere to be real.

"Not well. That girl, woman I should say, Zera. I dreamt about her. She was holding an arm, sobbing. Also it was too quiet, I hate quiet." I said, with a sigh.

"I understand, we can move you back into the forest if you wish." He seemed different from when I knew him, which put me on guard at all times.

"So what's my job here?" I wanted to do something, not be treated like a spoiled brat in his mansion.

"You really were quick and to the point weren't you? Guess I should've known by now. You have 3 targets that the 3rd legion needs eliminated. You have 5 days to complete this task. Your reward, some info on you, but more importantly your mother."

He was serious. Right? "Will do father. Where is my equipment? I can't just use this weak flimsy butterfly knife."

He pointed to the guard and I followed intriguingly. The room he led me to only had 3 things; some clothes for disguising, an earpiece, which turned out to be an accessible display of all 5 legions, and a knife with a reconstructed note. It read

"For my darling Cassy,

I've been watching over you since your birth, but I must leave now. I have no more options and I must do it for you to prosper.

I know this is hard to comprehend, even for someone as bright as you, but your life is more than a normal one, my dear and you must fulfill your destiny. Your father could not fathom your importance in our mission.

My hope is that you shall meet me again, and when the time comes I shall greet you with open arms. This knife is a knife passed down since before the war that ended the world began. It has been passed down generation to generation and now its yours. Use it well and bathe in the fruit of death

Sincerely,

Ziel Misbruik

I grabbed the knife feeling its smooth worn hilt. It was a reverse knife, almost like a dagger but slightly slimer and throwable, which I could get used to. I slipped it under my normal jacket and left, with a heavy and hopeful heart.
