Chapter 12

Zera

I woke up my memories slightly hazy.. I sat up and felt something wrong. My belt didn't weigh as much. I sighed looking at Cassian glaring at him. I didn't have time to care about it. The room was still dark, but through the window I could see it was it almost sunset.

I stood up dusting myself off, "You just couldn't handle keeping your h

ands of my knife could you?" I asked sarcastically.

"And you couldn't resist trying killing me, could you?" Cassian said, not so sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes, "I wasn't going to until I found out what you did." I got up and looked out the room.

"Let's go. We don't have time to argue." I listened closely for footsteps and headed down the hallway looking at every corner to make sure none of the guards were coming.

"Fine, but we are going to need to talk after this, and no assassination attempts for now, deal?" He asked.

I flinched for a second. It was as if he knew, and then I realized it was a joke. I didn't look at him, but kept walking, "Fine." I mumbled my answer. I found an exit soon to the outside. I took a quick glance behind me and saw someone approaching Cassian.

I reached in the back of my belt, but remembered Cassian took my knife. Soon two men followed behind the man approaching us. He had alerted the other guards. I kneeled down getting ready to put my gun back together, but was grabbed from behind and a gun pressed against my head.

I made sure to keep my knees locked. I needed to think of something. To observe the guard's stance. I looked down at the ground finding a weak spot, if I put enough force I could take this man down.

Cassian

Zera was still asleep when we stopped. It was more than tempting to just stab Zera now, but I decided that I should give her a chance to explain.

We sat there for about 10 minutes, just dead silence, no guards inside. Then two guards came in, and despite the fact I still had my uniform on, they grabbed me by the shoulders, took my butterfly knife, which made me sad, and lifted me off the ground.

I kicked both the guards in the crotch, which they both probably loved and tried to take my knife. As I turned around my face went blank. It was him.

Z, the same Z that gave me a purpose. My father. "Z!? The hell you doing here? It's been such a long time!" He smiled with that friendly smile that could melt any amount of anger away.

"It has been a while Cassian. I got worried when you didn't show up after the Dome exploded, but you are here, which is all that matters to me."

I went to give him a hug, as he was the only person I loved as family, when I noticed his green suit that had 30 badges all hanging from the suit.

I stood still. "Why are you wearing that suit. You'd never be a part of such a murderous group, right." A tear went down my face, something I didn't know I could still do.

"Cassian, my son, I killed them to save you. I'd never let my child die alone in a forest cabin. You've had assassins trying to kill you for months now. That's why the guards kept checking on you." He seemed sad with those last words.

That explained everything. The knife, the gun, the map of the forest... the note. My only friend, who I loved, was not only an assassin, which I could live with, she wanted to kill me.

"That bitch Zera. Can't believe I'm surprised." I was mad now. I grabbed the knife ad chucked it, not even aiming, and it hit a guard in the stomach, unintentionally but it felt good.

"So Cassian, come home to me my child. Be safe and merry with the 3rd legion while we slay our enemies." He held out his hand to me. And I took it gladly.

"Glad to be where I belong." I stated with a smile I hadn't used in awhile.

So we set up a plan that would capture Zera before she knew what hit her.

I acted surprised "What the!" As they "cuffed" me and took me and Zera to separate rooms. As I approached my room I was uncuffed and escorted to my bedroom, which was more of a mini house if I'm honest, but this was the home I'd Wanted, no I'd deserved for my entire life.
