Twenty-Three

Her eyes fluttered open, sunlight flowing in through the slightly open curtains hitting her face.

She turned, blinking the fog out of her eyes, and a smile over her dry lips, her small, pink tongue gliding over them in an attempt to remove the dead skin that had built on them while she had been sleeping.

Seonghwa was turned over to face her, his cheek squished against the pillow causing his lips to become parted. His dark hair fell over the side of his face as he dug his face deeper into the mattress, a small sigh emitting from his throat.

And, then, his eyes opened.

"Goodmorning.", a small smile appeared on his face.

"How did you sleep?", Anabella raised her knees to her chest.

"With you by my side-", he chuckled, "-like a baby."

A pink hue took over her cheeks, "I-I am glad to hear that."

He nodded, sitting up, his eyes trained on the foot of the bed and his mind somewhere entirely different from the room in which they were in.

Anabella reached a shaking hand forward and grabbed Seonghwa's, "Is something wrong?"

He smiled, "No, everything is alright."

"Seonghwa, you are my husband. You can tell me anything.", she whispered, remembering the words she had spoken when he had told her the same thing.

"I...I am just thinking about a nightmare I had last night.", he sighed and leaned his head back, "About my family."

"I am sorry.", she stroked his head, "But, I am here. Everything will be alright."

He smiled and nodded.

"Thank you, Anab-"

"Ember!", San's high-pitched voice rang through the halls outside the bedroom.

He peeked his head through the door and his eyes widened, "Oh. My. Sonar."

"San.", she stood, "It's not as it seems."

The young man's lips widened into a grin and he stretched his hands out in front of him in big gestures, "Axel Fabian. If it's a boy. And, if it's a girl, Susanna Dahlia. Oh, but if you have twi-"

"San, we're not having a child!", Anabella exclaimed, quickly calming herself down as she ran a hand through her hair and down her gown.

San's arms fell in defeat against his sides, "You're not?"

She shook her head, a small smile on her lips.

San looked at his feet, "Alright, that is...disappointing, but you will have a child at some point, right? I want a niece or nephew."

Anabella turned to Seonghwa, her heart climbing up her throat.

He smiled as he turned to San, "Yes, of course. But, I would prefer if my daughter was named after my mother."

"San, how many times do I hav-"

Hong Joong's voice got cut short as he stood in the open doorway, his lips still formed to speak.

"If you will excuse us.", he smiled, reached forward, and took hold of San's ear.

Anabella watched as Hong Joong dragged the whining San out of the room, glaring at the hunched over boy.

His scolding trailed off as Anabella turned back to Seonghwa as she awkwardly stood before the bed.

"Would you like to go eat breakfast?", he scrambled out of bed.

She nodded, watching him walk towards the door.

"Seonghwa, wait.", she yelled out.

He turned, an eyebrow raised.

Anabella got on her tiptoes and placed a lingering kiss on Seonghwa's soft cheek.

"I-I will catch up with you.", she mumbled, so close to him, their noses brushed together.

He nodded, blinking the shock out of his eyes and turned to walk out.

Good job, Anabella Sofia. You had your chance and you ruined it.
