New World
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
(F/n) purposefully had eaten her dinner slow. She had wanted to stall since she hadn't known what Tarhuinn had planned for them that evening. The dinner itself had been quiet as she had been too focused on her slow eating to converse with him. Granted, she had felt his gaze on her, and it had only made the situation worse.
When they had both finished eating, she had helped him with cleanup. Even on that, she had moved at a snail's pace. Once completed, Tarhuinn had signaled them to head to bed. She had merely nodded and had followed after him. Arriving at their shared room, she had paused by the doorway.
Resting his right hand on her shoulder, he had voiced, "Don't worry, (f/n). I'm not going to rush into that with you. We still have time like you mentioned."
She had breathed a sigh of relief at that and had given him a quiet word of thanks. From there, the two of them had prepared for bed before going to sleep. Tarhuinn, though, had made her sleep on his bed that night. He had stated that he wouldn't hurry anything, but he had mentioned that he wanted to hold her close from now on. To that, she had agreed since he was her husband despite how odd it still seemed to her.
Now, it being the next day, both were preparing their travel bags. Items to trade, their own food, clothing, medical and hygiene supplies and books were split into their two bags. Earlier that morning, however, she had noticed him putting on a leather belt which was armed with ten small steel daggers. His cloak covered the weapons belt, and she wondered if he would have to use any of those daggers. Maybe, over the course of the trip, she could convince him to let her have a try with one.
Regardless, they had now finished their packing and were headed towards the entrance doors to greet his friend. Personally, though, she was just excited that she would be able to go past those doors soon. Tarhuinn easily noted her eagerness to get going, but he made her stand back some from the doors. "You'll get to see the rest of our world soon enough, (f/n). Be patient for a little longer."
"Fine," she mumbled as she went to adjusting the string of her cloak. She once again had her boots on, and she made sure to stay out of the water with them on. Soggy boots would make traveling somewhat of a nuisance. The rest of her attire was rather comfortable as well. Her blue cotton shirt hung loosely around her torso but still covered her undershirt completely, and her grey cotton pants allowed her easy maneuverability.
A knock on the doors caught their attention, and Tarhuinn opened them. "Nyclaya, thank you for coming over for me," he greeted as they clasped wrists.
"Of course, I'm happy to help out a good friend. It's a good thing that we live close, otherwise the walk over here every day would get old fast. Now, where's this wife of yours?" she asked before peeking around him. She grinned before unclasping her hand and coming over to (f/n).
Seeing the female kelremm head directly for her, (f/n) took a step back and looked slightly concerned. The female kelremm was dressed in an interesting manner as well. She wore a blue leather armor corset along with black leather pants. (F/n) thought that the attire would be uncomfortable for working on crops, but she kept that opinion to herself.
Nyclaya's ink black hair was tied up high, allowing it to swish back and forth with each of her steps. Her eyes were very similar to Tarhuinn's, except they were a shade lighter. She stopped in front of (f/n) and stood at about the same height as the female human. The female kelremm held out her right hand. "It's nice to finally meet you, (f/n). Tarhuinn spoke highly of you."
Hesitantly, (f/n) took her hand and shook it in greeting. Her eyes darted over to the male, and he merely smiled to her. Averting her gaze back to Nyclaya, she responded, "It's nice to meet you as well. Thank you for watching over the place while we're gone."
"You're quite welcome," she answered before pulling her hand back and looking to her friend. "Well, show me what I need to do. I can tell that you're wife is wishing to leave already."
Heat lightly rose to her cheeks in embarrassment. Was she really that obvious in front of a stranger? Glancing back to Tarhuinn, (f/n) saw him nod before he came over to them. "Yes, she is one for adventure much like yourself," the male answered to his friend. "(F/n), come along, and we'll head out once we're done with the instructions."
Upon them completing the instructions for Nyclaya, they all headed back to the entrance doors. (F/n) wished to race through them, but Tarhuinn had his hands over the handles. "Bring me back anything interesting you find, and I'll add it to my collection," Nyclaya stated as her friend nodded and finally opened the entrance doors. He had given her a spare key already.
With the doors finally opened, (f/n) ducked under Tarhuinn's arms and into the area beyond. A chuckle was heard from the female kelremm before the male waved and closed the doors behind him. Walking up behind his human partner, he pulled the cloak over her head. "We don't need anyone seeing what you look like, especially if your theory about those five authors keeping the remedy to themselves is correct."
"What about you?" she asked as her gaze stayed on what was before her.
"Other kelremm will recognize my voice, so there'll be no point. That's why I also want you to speak as little as possible. Besides, kelremm never cover their faces from other kelremm. For you, it's fine since humans rarely come to the market."
"Won't they know that I'm your partner, though?"
"Yes, but if they can't pin your identity, it'll be harder to find you if something were to happen. Let's just hope that this journey remains civil."
"I agree. The less fights, the better." Her gaze still remained fixed on what she was looking upon. They were in a large circular room. Stone vases held fires within them and illuminated the tall cylinder room. She could see other doors like Tarhuinn's all around. Some were on higher levels while others were lower. There had to be at least fifty doors in the space. "Is this all of the kelremm?"
"No, there are two more complexes light this, but even then, there aren't many of us. Let's head down, though," he suggested, already walking on ahead.
The sound of water echoed all around them as cascades of water gushed down some of the room's sides. Water paths were all around for the kelremm while a small stone path accompanied them. Looking down, she saw how much darker it got towards the bottom, but she could still see small fires down below.
Both of them soon reached a large path that spiraled down towards the base. Water ran down in a steady flow, and it seemed like one would have to slide down. "Is that the only way to get down?" she asked, concerned.
"No, there is another method, but this way is quicker. There are also ladders, but, normally, those are used only to climb back up. If you're worried, you can sit on my lap while we slide down. I promise that you'll be safe, though; you may want to put your boots in your pack."
Tempted, she wanted to ask Tarhuinn if they could just use the ladders, but she didn't want to spend forever climbing down. She had never been on a ladder before after all, and she wondered if it would be more dangerous than the slide. "Fine, I'll trust you," she commented before she took off her boots and socks. After she placed them in her pack, she glanced over to the male. "Alright, I'm ready."
He proceeded to sit down and motion her onto his lap. Doing as he instructed, she got on and felt him press her to his chest. His arms wrapped tightly around her waist while he scooted forward. Before she could back out of the situation, they were sliding down the path. She found herself hanging onto his arms for dear life, and she shut her eyes tight. Eventually, though, she opened them and saw the floors fly by.
Wind raced past, and water splashed up onto their faces. The feeling was actually exhilarating once she pushed her worry aside. It was soon over, however, and they raced into a shallow pool of water. Her lower half was soaked completely, but, at least, she wouldn't have to walk with wet boots. As he got up and lifted her up with him, she peered out ahead of them. Tarhuinn pulled her hood up quickly while she was amazed by the activity before her.
It was a small market, but she could see trades happening already. At the front of the market, there was a large sign dictating what could be traded for what. She did a quick glance of it before she looked to the tents ahead. Small fires illuminated the place, and she saw a staircase beyond the market. Beyond that was a large pool of water. The light barely lit that area up, however, and she was slightly terrified that their travels would lead them in that direction.
