CHAPTER 2: KEVIN BATTLES A DEMON

Luke was going to die a virgin in the Rocky Mountains, or maybe the demon possessing him would take that as well.

But Luke knew his virginity only belonged to Nellie, whenever the time was right. And he hadn't come all the way over here to die with blue balls.

The snow swirling in front of him produced images of Nellie Santana—her rose petal red hair, her gray-blue eyes that looked like the ocean mated with the moon to create them, her flan skin that felt and tasted so rich and creamy like the traditional Spanish dessert she was.

That woman was waiting for Luke, and Luke knew she'd kill him in the afterlife if he died right now.

It was a one-sided arm-wrestling contest: a swoll body-builder versus Luke's toothpick arm. Yet he had to push this wind—this demon—out of him.

"A fighter," the demon whispered with the cackle of a sadist laughing at drowning puppies. "Your body will be mine, and your soul will be Satan's."

Luke knew he was screwed. He had only one trick up his sleeve—a flame he could summon from the palm of his hand. It was supposedly a blessing from the archangel Uriel, but then again, a demon had told him this, so he was taking everything with a grain of salt.

But right now, that fire was his only hope. All he needed was to get control over his right hand.

"Stop struggling and just submit, it'll be easier. I promise to take good care of this body."

This is my body, Luke thought loud enough for the demon to hear. And you're trespassing in it.

Luke felt his soul straining to force out the demon, but eventually he regained movement in his right hand. Now all he needed to do was switch on the match and light the flame. But he kind of sucked at doing things when he was supposed to do them. Luke was as desperate as a smoker trying to light a cigarette on a cold and windy day.

Come on, he thought.

Then he felt a drop of water land on his shoulder and it burned worse than rubbing alcohol on an open wound. He heard steam hiss from his body and found out it was the demon shrieking.

"Begone Aeria; you impious demon of the air!" Kevin leaped down to the ground and his messy hair did the wave in the breeze. His round glasses almost fell to the ground. He took out two small knives from his pockets and pressed a button at the top of the clear handle. Liquid bubbles swam through the handle like a clear lava lamp and eventually the blades of the knives were coated in a hand-sanitizer-like liquid.

"Nujeg," the demon hissed, aka holy water. If there is one thing that demons hate more than God, it's holy water. Unlike normal water, true holy water never changes state, no matter how cold or hot it gets...

Well unless you're me, but I'll save that for another time.

The holy water had weakened the demon enough for Luke to push part of the demon out of his body. He also felt his right hand heating up like an overused light bulb. His hand was steaming in the air, just like the demon's spiritual body.

And just like that, poof, a flame ignited in the palm of his right hand. The flame flickered red, orange, yellow, and eventually morphed to white.

It was a demon's nightmare. Luke had used this move only once before on the demon that possessed his girlfriend.

"The Undying Sear!" the demon screamed. Luke swiped his arm across the air and felt the flame tear through part of the demon like the thin veil of a spiderweb.

The whisper in the wind turned to the gale of a storm. The demon shuddered in pain as it burst forth from his body like something out of Alien. Luke's hand fell to the ground and the flame was extinguished while his body laid in the snow. The Undying Sear was a powerful move that left its unlucky victim with a mark that would burn them for eternity. However, whenever he used it, Luke felt he consumed about as much of his energy as an a/c unit running on high speed with the windows open.

Kevin sliced at the space near Luke and more eerie blasts of wind filled the air. He pulled Luke to his feet, but Luke felt dizzy and Kevin caught him. "This isn't time for games Luke. We have to go while the Aeria are immobilized."

But Luke's body was like, nah, I'd rather sleep out here in the snow, goodnight.

But Luke fought to stay awake. That's when he heard the roar of three engines speeding down the mountain and skidding to a stop. Three snowmobiles occupied by three people in ski-masks, each armed with various weapons. One pulled out a bow and arrow and had three arrows coated in a clear liquid aimed at them. Hopefully two of them are for Kevin and one for the demon, Luke thought.

Another one held forth a sling and the ammunition was a crystal ball filled with hand sanitizer liquid. Luke knew both weapons so far were mixed with holy water. These people must be accustomed to battling demons.

However, a third person held nothing in his hand and didn't even get off of his snowmobile right away. He stood quiet in the back and watched as if he was a rookie on this demon-hunting mission.

"Ah great," the man holding the sling slumped his aim and cursed. "You're back." The guy looked like he'd rather smell monkey farts than deal with Kevin. Clearly, he understood how Luke felt living with him as a roommate back at CUA.

"Don't look too excited to see me Victor," Kevin said. "Now, help me with Luke."

Suddenly the guy with the bow and arrow was pushed back by the wind and he released his grip on the arrows. Two shot off the cliff; but one arrow soared through the air and guided by the wind, struck its target.

So not only was Luke tired, but now he had to deal with a bloody arrow in his gut.
