Chapter 4: The Falling Prophecy

Amy didn't quite know how to respond to that.

Well, how exactly was someone supposed to respond to hearing that a titan had escaped from Tartarus and was trying to destroy everything?

Knuckles gave a thoughtful hum and mumbled, "That's not good."

Sonic looked at him with a tight smile. "Yea, 'not good' is definitely how you describe something like this."

"Okay," Sally cleared her throat to get everyone's attention. "We can't just let this- this happen." She said bluntly. "We have to do something."

Sonic almost laughed, though the situation wasn't particularly funny. "What can we do? I mean, the most we have that could possibly do anything against a titan is our power. Which, might I remind us, is nothing compared to the gods."

Sally nodded in agreement. "Still, I don't trust the gods to take care of this themselves." She sighed, a hint of contempt in her voice. Sally knew the gods typically sent demigods out to do the dirty work of quests.

"For all we know, they have no idea this is even happening. The Fates let everything that happens have meaning. Ivo got free and emerged in front of two demigods. That can't be a coincidence. We have to do something."

And with that, Sally looked to her friends, asking for them to counter. Sonic shrugged. "I mean, she's got a point." He admitted.

Amy nodded. "Right, but we can't just rush after him and expect things to go well." She anxiously tapped the book she was holding on her chest in front of her.

Suddenly, the back of the book fell away, and a piece of papyrus paper fluttered to the ground. Amy quickly snatched it out of the air, staring in confusion. It felt thin and delicate, like it could crumble in her hand if she tightened her grip.

The paper had words in ancient Greek scribbled across it, as if someone had desperately tried writing it down while running from something.

"Prophecy of the Fallen." Amy read aloud.

She looked up. 'I'm holding what might be an honest-to-gods prophecy.' It was horrifying and amazing and confusing at the same time. Maybe it wasnt- maybe it was just a random weird paper someone put there to mess with people. Still, if that was true, why was it in Ancient Greek? And so perfectly translated, as if it was completely natural.

This was real. She was holding a real prophecy.

The gods had chosen her. She was sure of it. That was the reason she had the prophecy in her hand. And she was shaking so badly.

"You... you just have an entire prophecy in the back of your gods book...?" Sonic asked, gesturing toward the paper.

"I GOT IT FROM A THRIFT STORE OR SOMETHING, I DUNNO!?"

Sally looked at her in confusion. "You just got a prophecy from a thrift store?" Amy just sputtered, putting the paper on her desk.

"I-I don't know. I'm gonna translate it now." She said, grabbing a pencil and a piece of paper. She began diligently writing on the new paper, glancing anxiously from the prophecy to the paper. The others looked over her shoulder, a mixture of fear and wonder consuming them.

When she finished, she leaned back and spoke. "Son of messages, clad in blue." She immediately looked at Sonic. His dark blue jacket and bright blue hair.

Sonic didn't notice her gaze, looking at the written prophecy. "Child of healing, mutation of two." Tails paused for a moment, his namesakes flicking nervously.

"Is this talking about..." He trailed off.

"Granddaughter of seafoam, blooming anew?" Amy hummed curiously, leaning forward for a moment. "Child of war, admiring an owl as it flew."

Owl? Did that mean a child of Athena?

"Girl of sunlight, but peacefully sweet a true." Her blood froze for a moment. She knew a girl of sunlight. Her throat felt dry.

Sonic continued for her. "God of grief... who had lost what he knew? His brother-" He didn't know the god of grief had a brother. "Child of win-drinker, too."

"Wine-drinker?" Knuckles leaned forward. "Like, Dionysus?"

"Beater of betrayers, flying within the night soon. Bringer of fire, powerful as a feline monsoon." Sally seemed completely mystified. "Healer of burning auburn, sword pure and new. Son of the wisest doesn't know what to do."

Amy's voice echoed on. "Daughter of youth, aggressive yet loyal through. Young one of plants, trying to not wilt into doom.

"Enter the forest of a world Ivo wishes to turn to a tomb."

Tails looked at the paper, his eyes wide with horror. "It's talking about us." He decided. His fingers twitched slightly. Amy agreed, nodding at that. It was that time.

That time for these demigods to risk their lives for the gods.

"So, this... 'Falling Prophecy' or whatever is talking about us." Sally said, taking the pencil Amy was holding and circling some of the lines. "First one is Sonic, the second one is Tails." She quickly scribbled their names next to their respective lines.

"I think the third one is Amy. It's talking about blooming, like a Rose? And the whole 'granddaughter of seafoam' thing is because Aphrodite rose from the sea and stuff." Tails observed.

"It mentions a child of Athena twice." Sonic said. Knuckles didn't seem convinced.

"I think you're forgetting about the Athena fanboy in the room," Amy responded, pointing at Knuckles.

Knuckles narrowed his eyes at her. "Not a fanboy. Just respect her." He corrected.

Amy rolled her eyes. "Your room is full of books on her strategies and philosophies."

"You can read?" Sonic teased, elbowing the Echidna, who swatted his arm away.

"I am not like my father. I'm not as reckless." He defended in an almost spiteful tone.

"Anyway. Healer of burning auburn might be me. Even if it's not, I'm coming with you guys." Sally interrupted the two's remarks, tapping the pencil graphite on the paper. "It says we need to god of grief." She said.

Amy grabbed one of her books, scanning the back of it to make sure there was no more hidden messages in it. She silently wished that another one would fall out that read, "Disregard that last message, everything's okay and the gods will take care of it all!" Alas,no such message appeared.

"Shadow." She said, flipping to one of the pages. She nodded. "Yea, the god of grief, Shadow- a being of Tartarus. No in-person interactions have been recorded." She sighed. "I doubt he even knows about this."

"We'll just have to hope that he'll show up." Sonic responded, trying to be encouraging.

"I think I know who the sunshine kid is." Amy said in an almost defeated manner. "Cream..." She looked worried. She really didn't want to drag the little girl into this all.

Still, trying to keep her away wouldn't help. Fate and prophecies couldn't be stopped- or even challenged. It would probably just end up making things worse.

"I know who this 'beater of betrayers' is." Knuckles said. Sonic could swear he heard a shift in his friend's tone (almost happy, which he certainly thought of as a shock."

"And we know a child of Athena and Hebe." Tails sighed. He didn't exactly like being around those two.

Sally nodded and started writing down more names they'd figured out. "Alright, now, I think that we'll find the others sooner or later. Now, let's go see if we can get Cream and whoever you know," she nodded at Knuckles. "To join this."

The Prophecy had found its Fallen.
