One Man Army

The medic woke up feeling incredibly dizzy. This "Reaper" woman kept injecting some odd substance into him, and it felt as if he was going to starve or die of thirst. They had given him small morsels of food, but no water. He had to sort of extract fluid from the food he was given. He groaned a little in pain. While the dizziness made it hard to focus on anything, it wasn't enough to distract him from the hundreds of bruises that had probably formed all over his body. This army or... Navy or whatever it was had a much different torture technique than the red army. The ripper had almost always gone straight to cutting, and only beat the prisoners if he really had to. This self proclaimed reaper however went straight to beating, and her approach was more... Psychological. She could easily get into the medic's head, forming her words carefully, solely basing them on how the medic looked before he had gotten there. It was kind of scary. She managed to get down to the root of everything without him ever having to say a word. From the fading self-inflicted cuts on his wrists, to the abundance of shaking, heck she even described the flaws in the medic's home life just by looking at how he styled his hair. It didn't help that she liked to whisper her observations to him everytime he was half conscious, making the whispers stick to his mind in a way that made him squirm with discomfort. Not to mention, she still never took the blindfold off. The medic couldn't even see what his assailant looked like. He suddenly tensed up upon hearing the door to the torture room open and shut. She was back already? The medic braced himself for another beating, but was met with nothing but yelling. She didn't seem to be yelling at him though... Was she yelling to herself?
"I can't BELIEVE her! How dare she think I'm not affected by all of this?! Then she has the AUDACITY to ask me for comfort?! That's it, I'm leaving this stupid navy! I'll divorce her on the spot if I have to!" The reaper shouted. The medic listened intently. He had sort of gathered information by putting what he heard together in his brain. Based on what he had heard over the last few days, someone had been interfering with this navy's plans. He thought he had heard something about a grey army, but he sort of disregarded it. He had also heard the reaper occasionally talk about her wife, but never in such a hateful manner as this. Apparently she worked here too as a medic, and was actually the other person he had heard on the plane. The only other thing the medic had figured out was that the blue navy was made up of entirely women, something he had actually known beforehand. He once again tensed up as he felt a hand wrap itself tightly around his neck.
"ACK-" The medic choked. That seemed to only make the reaper squeeze harder.
"Might as well take all my frustrations out on you, and just so you know, I noticed that little mark on your neck, it's faded to the point where it looks like a bite mark, heck, maybe it is a bite mark," The reaper hummed.
"I-It's- HNGH-" The medic could feel the air leaving him.
"Hm... Cheating on your ripper maybe? Although judging by the way you whisper to yourself, you aren't together now are you? Maybe you're using someone else to fufill his role, because deep down you know he would never love someone as weak and pathetic as you," The reaper chuckled. Of course she was far off base, and she probably knew that too. The medic couldn't really correct her at this point, so he simply sat there and tried his best not to cry at the thought of the ripper never even noticing the medic's disappearance. He had to show up, he just had to, because the medic knew no one else would. Both were startled by the sound of a large explosion. The reaper let go of the medic's neck, running to her desk. The medic heard what sounded like a walkie talkie being turned on. "Admiral? Admiral?! I just heard what sounded like an explosion coming from your side of the base, what happened?!" The reaper shouted. There was a deafening silence, being broken by a cryptic response.
"It appears you have taken something that does not belong to you, I am here to take it back if you do not mind," A deep voice replied. It sounded familiar to the medic, but it was hard to hear what with the backround static of the walkie talkie. There was a thud, more than likely the reaper dropping the walkie talkie. The reaper pulled one of her desk drawers open, pulling out a piece of paper and a pen, quickly jotting something down. She ripped off her nametag and attached it to the paper. She let out a small sigh.
"I'm sorry love, but I can't stay, forgive me," She whispered to herself. She reached back into the drawer and pulled out a pistol, cocking it and pocketing the note. She stomped past the medic, ready to fight. She yanked her office door open. The reaper froze upon seeing her wife standing there.
"Reaper?" The smaller girl asked.
"H-Hey, look, I'll be right back," The reaper gave her wife a nervous smile.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"What you didn't hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"Of course you didn't, just... Trust me okay? I need you to watch the prisoner until I come back,"
"Love you're scaring me, what's wrong?" The short girl asked. The reaper gently grabbed her wife's shoulders, moving her out of the way.
"Nothing, everything will be fine, in fact, we'll go out somewhere after all of this okay?"
"Really?"
"Yeah!" The reaper lied, a fake smile plastered onto her face.
"Okay," Her wife smiled back, waving goodbye to the reaper, none the wiser. She gently shut the door, her eyes focusing on the medic. "Oh gosh you poor thing... Don't tell anyone I'm doing this..." The short girl walked over to the medic and untied the blindfold, allowing him to see his surroundings at last. However he did have to squint for a bit in order for his eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness. The reaper's office looked alot like the ripper's office, but with a few more personal touches. A big bulletin board with a bunch of drawings clipped onto it hung next to a torture table, and the medic was trying very hard to keep his eyes off of the various posters of scantily clad women doing unspeakable things with what looked like tentacles. What was wrong with this navy?! "She seems to have done a number on you... Sorry, orders are orders," The girl sighed, walking into view. The medic's eyes were still adjusting to the light, so really he could only make out her silhouette. She was short with some bizarre object where her head should have been. The medic must've really been losing it.
"Who...?" The medic began.
"My apologies, I'm the medic here at the blue navy! Suppose you're a medic too? Look, none of this was supposed to happen..." The female medic trailed off.
"What are you talking about?" The medic asked.
"This is all my fault, really, I needed a scapegoat, and I saw your name on the research papers and I just-"
"Slow down! What are you talking about? What do you mean a scapegoat? What research papers?" The medic was confused beyond belief.
"Alright... Let me explain, we've been having some issues with the grey army lately, they've caused us some problems with something called a 'nightmare serum,' it's basically a serum that when injected causes someone to fall asleep and experience violent nightmares while dying a slow and painful death," The female medic began to explain. Nightmare serum... Where had the medic heard that name before? "The grey army used it to kill someone... Close to us, long story short, our lieutenant was ready to wage an all out war on the grey army but I just... I couldn't have that happen, someone I care about leads that army, and I don't wish to see them hurt, I infiltrated the grey army and went through the research papers associated with the serum, you were the one that created the serum were you not?" The female medic finished. It all came flooding back to the medic. One of the first things he did as the red army medic was conduct research on a potential serum that could peacefully put down soldiers who were too injured or sick to save. Dark, but more humane than the alternative. It had been a failure however, and it caused the opposite effect. The medic refused to ever show his findings to the red leader out of pure fear of such an evil substance. He got rid of the substance and any research that had been conducted on it. How in the world had it shown up again?
"How did they get that research?!" The medic demanded.
"I couldn't tell you if I wanted to, I got out of there after I got the research I needed, I figured if I could show the lieutenant who it was that created the serum, I could convince her it was the red army that caused all this damage instead of the grey army, I'm so sorry, I didn't think she would go this far," The female medic apologized profusely. The medic wanted to get angry at her, he really did, but at this point he just felt too weak to work up any anger. He simply sat back and let his thoughts consume him once more. Who was it that had responded on the walkie talkie? It was obviously not a member of the blue navy. It was clearly a man's voice, and the reaper's reaction made it clear they were in danger. What had the voice said? It appears you have taken something that- wait a minute...
"Suppose it doesn't matter... You guys are probably screwed anyways," The medic chuckled a bit to himself. Meanwhile, the "intruder" had broken in by using a grenade to blow up an outer wall, conveniently placing him in the blue navy's armory. This "intruder" was none other than the ripper himself. It seems one of their soldiers had gotten caught in blast, and the ripper took the pleasure of taking her walkie talkie and responded to the panicked shouts of her friends. He had a grim smile on his face. It had been awhile since he had gotten to take his profession out in the field. Then again, this wasn't exactly a field assignment, and the ripper was fairly certain he would be in trouble with red leader had he ever found out about this. Nevermind that, now wasn't the time to think about the consequences. He needed to stay focused on one thing, the medic. He stomped over the rubble, a pistol in hand. Despite the superior weapon he had clutched to his chest, he kept his signature knife close, concealed of course, but close nonetheless. A few random soldiers ran past him. None of them had nametags however, meaning they were just useless grunts unlike the soldier that had gotten caught up in the aforementioned blast. He shot down every last one that even dared to try and stop him, not looking one in the eye however. He had to keep going. A fist was swung at him as he rounded a corner, successfully making contact with the ripper's face. It wasn't enough to knock him down, just enough to start bruising, not like it mattered to the ripper. The pain only fueled his genocidal state of mind. The woman who had attempted to knock him out swung her fist yet again, only to be stopped by the ripper's bone crushing grip around her wrist. He pushed her down, stomping down on her chest and holding the pistol to her head.
"S-Stop! Please! The ripper right? I know where your medic is!" The woman managed to croak out. The ripper noticeably flinched, but quickly regained his composure.
"Tell me where he is," The ripper growled.
"Put down the gun first,"
"Like hell," The ripper replied. Her expression didn't seem to change, a trait the ripper picked up on. This trait was common among people in his profession.
"He's in my office, down the hall, being guarded by our medic," She sighed.
"Thank you," The ripper put his finger on the trigger, fully ready to kill. He stopped himself. The woman had on a necklace with an ordinary looking pebble on the end of it along with a wedding ring. Crap, the ripper was feeling sympathetic. Stupid medic, making him feel human emotions. The ripper moved the pistol to her shoulder, firing a bullet that he knew would only immobilized her as long as he told their medic she was hurt. The ripper took his foot off of her chest and began to walk away.
"Hey..." The woman began, barely any pain in her voice. The ripper stopped, refusing to turn. "Do me a favor would ya? When you get to my office, shoot first and ask question laters, it'd save me alot of trouble later," She chuckled, shuddering a bit as the pain caught up to her. The ripper didn't respond, he just continued down the hall until he a door he could only hope led to the medic. It was painted a dark grey with a poster of a tentacle hanging off of it. Rather than checking to see if the door was locked first, the ripper simply kicked it down. The ripper's eyes widened as he saw a weak medic being untied by a short woman. They were both frozen however from the sudden loud noise.
"J-Jack?" The medic stuttered, his voice laced with nothing but pain. He shook away the pleasing thoughts of pain, and focused on helping the medic. The woman quickly finished untying the medic. He went limp and would have fallen out of his chair had it not been for the ripper's quick reflexes. He ran towards the medic and caught him, sitting him back down in the chair so he could assess the medic's injuries. While witnessing this kind of pain would ordinarily get him excited beyond all belief, seeing it on the medic just made him sick to his stomach. His porcelain skin was riddled with bruises, and he looked like he was starving. His eyes were glossed over, and they almost looked... Well... Dead.
"What did they do to you?" The ripper mumbled in horror.
"Our reaper got to him," The girl sighed. The ripper turned and pointed his gun at her, watching her tremble with fear.
"Jack... Don't," The medic groaned. The ripper's eyes caught something hanging from the girl's neck. A necklace with a familiar pebble and familiar wedding ring hanging off of it. Wait... Was the woman he shot earlier hoping he would shoot her wife? What was wrong with this navy? He thought to himself. He lowered the gun, not wanting to upset the medic. The ripper sighed and carefully lifted the medic, trying not to injure him any further. Due to the height difference, it almost looked like the ripper was cradled a child, which would have been humorous in any other situation. He pushed past the girl, and stopped.
"Your wife is bleeding out down the hall, if you are really a medic, you will go help her, but I warn you, she wanted me to shoot you," The ripper replied. The girl didn't hear the ripper's warning however, she was already gone the moment he said her wife was in danger. She'd probably come to regret that later. The ripper pressed on, concern on his face everytime the medic let out a whimper. There didn't seem to be anymore soldiers around; guess they had the common sense to let him leave now that he had what he came for. The ripper paused, suddenly remembering the rain outside. He shifted most of the medic's weight onto his right arm, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a dark green pocket umbrella he had found in the red army's infirmary awhile ago. He unfolded it and walked with the medic out into the rain.
"S-Show off," The medic chuckled before passing out. The ripper sighed and kissed the medic on the forehead.
"Rest well David, we will be home soon,"

SUPER EXTRA LONG CHAPTER! Yeah, I figured I owed it to you guys for being so patient and supportive. Now before I go any further, let me say it one more time, THIS IS NOT THE LAST CHAPTER! I don't even have a set number of chapters for this book yet, so please don't ask me if this is the last chapter. I'm a slow, horrible, person who sucks at everything, so I apologize for such agonizingly slow updates. Originally I wasn't going to update until summer started up again due to the stress that comes with finals, however, I felt that would've been plain rude. Here, some fan art. This was a long loooong chapter that took awhile to make, so I will simply credit each artist. Know that I appreciate every last piece of art that is sent to me, and I have a limitless amount of respect and gratitude towards every artist I encounter.
