The Dark Knight [3]

The sun rose.

Dawn.

It was such a beautiful time of day. It was a pity most people didn't bother watching the sun, as it rose above everything else.

King Faust did not usually wake up this early. There was no need to when a man like him had servants and maids and knights. He had two sons. He didn't need to do this type of work.

Maybe people thought his hatred of magic was out of hands- but his love for his two sons mattered to him above all.

He watched the "knight" stand outside in the courtyard, not moving.

He was a smart king. King Faust knew something was wrong.

Which was why he had talked to his physician, Porlyusica, a trusted, old friend.

Knock Knock

Jellal groaned and heaved himself out of bed. A part of him hoped it was Erza. He was in a bad mood and deep down he was a flurry of nerves. Erza usually distracted him, but it couldn't possibly be her. Erza never knocked.

He flung open the door.

"Sire," Porlyusica said, bowing her head.

"Porlyusica," I greeted. "Is something wrong? Because I'm not changing my mind about-"

"No, not at all," she said, much to his surprise. "I agree with you."

"That's nice. Can you tell Erza to get me breakfast."

Porlyusica ignored me. "Sire, I have made a simple drink that will calm you down."

"I don't need calming down," Jellal said. "I'm fine."

"Sire, please."

He glared at the old woman for a moment.

"Fine."

The prince took the drink and sipped it.

Then he blacked out.

Porlyusica sighed and walked out the room, making sure to lock the door behind her.

"I'm sorry, sire."

"Where's Jella- I mean Prince Jellal?" I asked as the king walked into the weapon's room.

"I'm going to be fighting that knight," King Faust said, waving his arm for his servant to come help him.

My hand closed around the hilt of Excalibur.

Do not let the sword fall into the wrong hands. It was forged for Prince Jellal, and Prince Jellal alone.

"Is something wrong?" the king asked, challenging me.

"N-Not at all, Your Majesty."

"Whose sword is that for?" the king inquired, raising his arms so his servant could strap on the armor.

"It's..mine," I said quickly.

He raised an eyebrow. "It's far too...fancy for someone of your rank."

I gulped nervously. He probably thought I had stolen it.

"It was forged for Prince Jellal," I said hastily.

"A gift?" the king asked. "May I see?"

My hands trembled as I pulled out the sword.

King Faust took it from me and weighed the sword. He waved it around a couple times.

"You don't mind if I use it, do you?" he asked. "It's a very fine blade."

"No..n-not at all.."

"Erza!" Minerva said, smiling. "Mira Jane was asking for you."

I didn't return the smile. "Is she?"

Minerva frowned. "She's in my chambers. Is something wrong?"

I walked past the king's ward without another word.

"Five minutes," Mira said. "Do you think Prince Jellal can beat him?"

I shook my head glumly. "King Faust is challenging the knight himself."

Mira looked at me with concern. "That's weird. I would think Prince Jellal would've argued with his father.."

"You're right!" I exclaimed, running out of the room.

Jellal hadn't asked for breakfast yet, which meant he hadn't woken up. That meant he had accidentally slept him. And Jellal never does that.

"Jellal?" I yelled, trying to open his door.

It was locked.

Weird.

"Jellal?" I yelled again, pounding on the wooden door.

I stood back and whispered, "Aliese!"

The door flew open and I ran in, not knowing what to expect.

I had been thinking Jellal was murdered or kidnapped. I was not expecting him to be on the ground, snoring.

"Jellal!" I said shaking him. "Wake up, idiot!"

He opened his eyes slowly, squinting in the sunlight.

"What time.."

His eyes widened in horror and he jumped up.

"Porlyusica drugged me.." Jellal muttered, scrambling to his feet and running to the window.

And now Faust is going to fight the statue-turned-knight thing with a sword forged from magic that's supposed to be only used by you.
