Judgement
"Error!" Palette screamed, scrambling forwards the bridge in time to see the Destroyer fall into the Void, and his kidnapper enter the Temple like building.
The Destroyer had sacrificed himself to save him.... His Dad had always treated the guy like the villain, but in that moment, Palette saw someone who would do anything to protect something.
He had saved him, even after everything his Dad had done to him....
He sobbed, not really seeing how much time had gone by, until he heard someone yell his name.
"Palette!"
He looked up in time to see his Uncle Nightmare running over to him. "Uncle Nighty?" He asked, even as the goopy being pulled him into a hug, quickly pulling his cell phone out of his jacket.
"Dream, I found Palette!"
"Where is he!?"
"Outertale."
"Mom?"
"Hold on Sweetie! I'm on my way!"
Palette burst into tears. He wanted his Mom.
-------
Goth sighed, even as his Dad was getting his Magic ready to create a portal to Reapertale. They had to get Ink's Soul back, now!
Because even with Broomie acting as long term life support, they had no idea of how long Ink had been without his Soul...
Well, his Dad didn't, but Solas's memories told him that it had been a very long time....
Goth was upset, Solas was free now but why hadn't Umbra been freed? Had he been created for reasons similar to Solas, so why wasn't he free?
"I know how to free my Big Brother!" A voice suddenly said. "We just need to open the door before we can do that... "
"SOLAS?!" Goth yelled, looking around for the Light Guardian, only to find his Spirit floating besides him. The Light Guardian hadn't changed but he was wearing a long, gold scarf now.
"Hi Mama!"
"WHAT?!"
Solas giggled. "The nice Fate taught me how to free my Big Brother! I just need some help from you Mama. Umbra left something that you gave him in the place where I hid Inky's Soul!"
"I gave him something?" Goth asked. "But I don't remember giving him anything..."
"You gave it to him before Big Brother became Big Brother! Big Brother and Solas were counterparts before Big Brother and Solas were born!"
"But the most recent present that I gave someone was..." Goth stopped talking, with a sinking feeling in his stomach as he remembered who the last one to get a present from him had been. "Shades..."
"Gothy?"
He was snapped out of his thoughts by his Dad, who was standing by a portal. "What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry Dad, it looks like that Solas and I are just like Cross and his Chara, but we can talk about that later." Goth got ready to go through the portal. "We need to get Ink's Soul back."
-------
Reapertale was quiet.
It was too quiet....
Goth and Reaper landed right in the middle of Reapertale and no one came to greet them. There wasn't even any sign of the Guards.
"Dad?" Goth asked. "What's going on? Where is everyone?"
"I don't know. Grim would be here by now to yell at me and to hug me. He should have felt both of us the moment that we came here. Something's wrong...."
"Dad..."
"Goth... There was only one place that Skeleton, Fear wasn't it, could have gotten a Sapphire like that...." Reaper began. "And there is only one God who can access that place..."
Goth's eyelight was wide as he processed this information, there had been a Traitor in Reapertale, all this time....
"And it's the King of the Gods, Asgore." Reaper said, before he lashed out and he grabbed Goth by his arm. "We need to hurry, I don't know how long we have before Asgore, or any of his supporters, find us!" He scooped up his son, before he summoned his wings, taking off.
Goth held on to his Dad tightly, because Reaper wasn't wasting any time. He was taking the shortest route to the Door, and that involved using a lot of advanced dives, tricks and aerial maneuvers just to get pass the first level of defenses.
"You don't have to worry about the Gems sealing you Gothy." Reaper told his son. "Because they don't work on Demi Gods, and now that I think back on it, what is happening now explains a lot about Asgore's attempts to stop your birth."
"Why?"
"Demi Gods are a sign of Good Luck or a warning that someone really screwed somewhere, because most of the times that a God dies, it's because of a Demi God, and the God has done something really bad, that broke a lot of laws..."
"Or they pissed someone off." Goth rolled his eyelight. "Like Fear did, I mean, he tried to hurt Fate's Son..."
Reaper laughed. "I'll have to give you that one Goth. And Fear was given a Sealing Gem, which means that Asgore is working with him or he is being forced to help him.... But I am going for the first option."
"Why?"
"If he was being forced to work for Fear, he wouldn't have tried to kill you, you would have been his way out, and he would have kept you alive, instead of trying to kill you."
"But, wouldn't Shades's Asgore be doomed too?" Goth asked.
"No, there are records of new Gods showing up with the same names and looks as the killed God, but with a different Soul." Reaper flew upside down for a bit. "And it also happens if the God has to be permanently Sealed away. Shades's Asgore will be bonded to a different Asgore, because they normally show up right after the Corrupted God is Sealed or Killed, if he is innocent..."
"Innocent?"
"If he is guilty, then things may be different, but we don't know if that will happen Baby Bones, we didn't know about the Split, until now.."
"You looked at the Remnant's Memories?"
"Yes. I did." Reaper flipped around so that they were flying the right way up.
-----
They slowly came to a stop in front of a corridor, and Reaper put Goth down, before he landed and he tucked his wings away.
"Dad?"
"Asgore had this place warded to the teeth Gothy, I can't use my wings once we pass this point..."
Goth nodded his head, but he had a bad feeling about this.
-------
"Palette!" Dream yelled, once he arrived in Outertale, and he saw his son.
"Mom!" Palette yelled, as Dream scooped him up into a hug, fussing over him.
Nightmare breathed a sigh of relief, but all three of them were suddenly shocked when Geno appeared out of nowhere.
"Mr.Geno?" Palette asked, even as Dream used his Magic to flush the rest of the drug out of his system. Nightmare had already treated his wound. "What are you doing here?"
"Reaper... I can sense Reaper."
"But none of us have seen him." Dream said.
"But..." Geno didn't get to finish his sentence when they were suddenly surrounded. "What?! What are these things?!"
"I don't know...." Nightmare managed to say, before they were attacked.
------
Reaper summoned his scythe, before he and Goth started to walk down the corridor, both of them could practically taste the Magic in the air.
"Asgore's been busy..." Reaper muttered. "But, that doesn't explain why everyone is missing..."
"Do you think that they were Sealed like you were Dad?"
"I don't know...."
Goth was quiet. "I miss Uncle Grim..." He muttered, even as a ghosty Solas appeared besides him, giggling. "Big Brother is here!"
"Really?"
"Yep! I can't wait to set him free!"
Goth couldn't help but to smile at Solas. The Light Guardian was so cute.
Goth was suddenly stopped by his Dad, who had stopped walking. Goth was about to ask what was wrong when he spotted the reason why his Dad had stopped.
Asgore.
"Goth, I'm going to use a Gaster Blaster to give you a running head start." Reaper told him. "You need to hit the ground running, and don't look back. The Door should be at the end of the corridor, you can't miss it."
Goth nodded his head as he hopped onto the Gaster Blaster.
-------
Asgore wasn't expecting Reaper, he thought that his Boss had taken care of Death, but he didn't expect the white blur that Reaper sent flying past him, with some help from a Blaster.
The blur hit the ground running, heading down the corridor, even as Reaper swung his scythe at the King of the Gods.
Reaper couldn't explain it, or how it had happened, but he now had a sudden boost of power. A haunting song started to play as he continued to fight Asgore.
---------
Goth was tearing down the corridor, running as fast as he could, he was almost there, he could feel it in his bones.
Goth skidded to a stop in front of a door. It was huge.
His eyelight was wide as he took in the carvings on the door. They were beautiful.
It was all of the Guardians, apart from Solas, circling what looked like a lock, high in the door.
The scenes with the Guardians in looked like that they used to have paint on them, and at the top of it, Goth saw the Light Temple, surrounded by a cage of shadows.
"Solas, you were the one to make all of the carvings that I have been studying..."
"Yep! Big Brother was the one who made your Temples!"
"WHAT?!" Goth yelled. Umbra had been the one who made all of his Temples, and his Guardians?!
He was going to have words with Shades once he was free....
Goth floated up to the Lock, removing the Key Pieces from his inventory. There was only three of them in the Lock right now, but the last time that he was here, wasn't the one with the Desert symbols the only Key Piece in the Lock?
"Solas kinda set things up so that every time that you visited the other Multiverse, the Key Pieces for those Temples would appear in the Lock here." Solas told him. "I knew when you would visit the other Multiverse thanks to my Big Brother, he told Solas the battles that you two went through together, to Solas, in the form of Bedtime Stories."
"And all that I need to do now is to put the rest of them in." Goth said, before he placed the Earth, Fire and Light Temple's Key Pieces into the Lock. "But why does the Lock have six pieces when only five Temples were built?"
"Big Brother's Void Core counts as a Temple, somehow, so Solas had to make six Key Pieces for the Lock."
Goth nodded his head, before he started to press the Key Pieces.
"Earth. Forest. Fire. Ice. Light. Shadow." He mumbled and with each Key Piece that he pressed, it lit up with the same colours as the flames, in the braziers, at the Light Temple.
Goth floated back down to the ground as the door opened.
He gasped at what he saw.
-------
A portal opened above them as they fought off the creatures and Geno watched as something fell out of it, before it closed.
He walked over to the swearing Skeleton, this had to be Fear..
"So, you're Fear..." Geno said, even as the Skeleton got up and he slowly turned around to see Geno's blazing red-blue eyelight.
Geno cracked his knuckles, smirking, he was going to enjoy this...
Fear whimpered.
(R.I.P Fear, he pissed off Geno and he is now paying for it with his life.)
--------
It was an entire Japanese shrine, with cherry blossom trees in every colour of the rainbow. His breath was taken away by the beauty of this place.
The doors closed behind Goth as he walked into the vault.
"I used to drink tea with Big Brother underneath that tree Mama."
"Don't worry Solas, I will make sure that you can drink tea with Umbra underneath that tree again." Goth said.
"I wonder if we can do that body swap thing that Cross and his Chara can do?" He asked Solas.
"Solas wants to try Mama!"
Goth closed his eyes and he focused on Solas.
There was a sudden poof of smoke and a giggle came from it.
Solas burst out of the smoke laughing, with the tail end of his new gold scarf following him.
Solas looked towards their sacred tree, only to squeal in delight. "Kitty!" He yelled, running towards the tree so that he could pick up his Kitty Puppet. "Solas is sorry that Solas left you behind!" He hugged it.
"That looks like the Kitty Puppets that Shades makes." Goth said.
"Mama is the reason why Solas loves Kitties!"
Goth blushed.
Solas giggled before he made his way to the deeper parts of the shrine and if Kitty was here, that meant that Big Brother was here too.
Goth gasped when he saw the Jade pendent on the low table in the deepest part of the shrine.
Solas picked up the pendent. "Umbra, it's time for you to come home." He said.
Goth placed his hands over Solas's. "He's right Shades, please, come back. We made a promise to go home, together... "
"BIG BROTHER!!" Solas screamed, as Umbra slowly appeared in front of him. He hugged Umbra, crying. "Don't leave Solas again!"
“Sorry Solas, but you're not allowed to leave me too.” Umbra said, gently hugging the tiny child.
Goth smiled. He was so happy.
“Just.. how long have you been planning that to release me?” He asked, curiously, he knew that Solas was a rather sneaky child.. and he could be a Hell Child when he was alone.
He’d seen the side effects of Solas being alone for too long.
Solas smirked. "Solas has been planning this since the last time that Big Brother got sick."
“Wait.. Were you the cause of FellMertale going missing during that time.. Wait... I don’t want to know... Just no!” Umbra said suddenly.
Solas giggled, before he smiled, innocently, whistling.
"FellMertale?" Goth asked.
“Nope... just no, I am not discussing that AU... that.. gah...” Umbra shuddered.
Shades laughed.
Searcher frowned. "Shades?"
“Umbra... we're free, let me finally meet Solas...” Shades whispered, he was so happy that everyone could hear everyone else while they were touching the Jade.
But, unlike Solas who seemed to Poof, Umbra seemed to melt into a swirl of Shadows that reformed into Shades.
Shades, who was still wearing the clothing he’d been wearing when he vanished.
“Hello Ser. Hello Solas. I'm finally glad to meet you.” Shades said, with a tired grin.
"Hi!" Solas giggled, before he yawned.
“Try to stay awake Solas, and unlike Umbra, I’m not big enough to pick you up and hide you in his jacket.” Shades giggled. “I'm not even sure if you knew about me, since Fate kept Umbra from mentioning me.”
Solas smiled. "Big Brother and Solas did keep an eye on you two as you grew up."
“And you did rest in Umbra's Soul for many years, which is also my Soul... so I shouldn’t be surprised.” Shades replied. “Even if Fate changed my Soul so that no one could recognize it.”
Solas nodded his head. "Mama needs to get the Paint Idiot's Soul now."
“Yes, that means that you need to let Searcher out now, little Light.” Shades whispered.. or rather Umbra whispered through Shades, since Shades's eyelight was a familiar gold now.
"Okay!" Solas said, before he poofed again.
Searcher stepped out of the smoke, smiling at Shades.
“Hello my other self.” Shades grined, his eyelight was back to being purple now, with specks of gold.
Searcher grinned, his own eyelight had golden speckles in it as well. "I missed you." He was quick to pull Shades into a hug.
“Are you ready? I have got all of my Inky’s soul and it's essence. I do not recommend the trip that I had to take, through time that is, with no return ticket. Zero out of five stars.” Shades responded.
Searcher laughed as he let Shades go. "Yeah. I can't wait to go home."
“Er... I'm sorry about the temples and Guardians.” He coughed, not that the Fates gave him a choice when it came to building them.
"I am still mad about that." Searcher told him, but Shades could tell that his demons weren't bothering Searcher anymore.
"At least you didn't have to fight them, and then find out that you created Fate's Guardians and Temples. Umbra was not pleased about sneaking into Fear's Temples to place the keys." Shades grumbled, with his magic blazing, but it was not it's normal purple, but a beautiful gold.
Searcher just smiled, before he opened the inner doors of the shrine to see his Ink's Soul.
"Come on Ink." He pulled out a Soul container that he placed Ink's Soul into. "It's time for you to go home."
He winced, before he brought out his own Soul, which was suddenly turning a very bright, silvery white, that looked like light itself, with Solas's golden shard happily dancing around it.
Shades laughed, or rather Umbra, through Shades, laughed.
“Well, the Fates do have to keep us balanced.” He said summoning his own Soul to show it's ethereal gold self.
"Yeah, let's get out of here."
“Do you want me to get us back to wherever your Dad is the fast way? Solas never bothered to learn how to travel by light as I do, via the Shadows?” Umbra via Shades offered, returning their Soul to their body.
----------
Reaper couldn't help but to laugh. The look on Asgore's face when the Gems failed to work on him was priceless!
Asgore was getting angrier by the minute, why wasn't the Gem working on Death, it worked on his brother!
He must have said that bit out loud, because Death looked pissed. "LET HIM GO ASGORE..."
Reaper let a bit of the otherworldliness that came with being Death out to play. Death was everywhere and everyone, it was the beginning and the end, the final adventure for everything and everyone.
No one escaped Death and those that tried, were hunted down and dragged to their sentences.
"I CALL YOU! JUDGE! PAINLESS! KARMATIC! A CORRUPTED GOD IS TO BE JUDGED!"
Asgore shivered, he could hear the screams of the damned in his ears, the slient, bloody battlefield, the last breath of a dying mortal, the screams of those cut down before their time...
Death's lazy grin was stretched impossibly wide, his robe seemed to be made out of shadows and his eyes were endless voids...
And two of the Sealed Gems started to rattle....
-----
Goth suddenly gasped and he fell to his knees.
"Searcher?" Umbra asked, through Shades's form.
"Dad... He is calling for me. A Judgement is to be passed." A hint of otherworldliness leaked into Goth's form, mainly in the faint echo that was laced in his voice.
This was not Goth, this was Karmatic Death, awakened, to pass Judgement on a Corrupted Soul.
“Right, I offered to shadow travel you there... so let's go...” Umbra said, holding a hand out as his body shifted into Umbra's form again.
Goth silently took Umbra's hand.
Usually, Umbra travelled via the void, but he didn’t want to hurt his friend. So shadows swallowed them, and when they cleared, they found themselves by Reaper.
“I'm sorry that we’re late, traffic was a killer.” Umbra grinned, and for once, Fate couldn’t force him to watch.
Karmatic Death reached out, letting go of Umbra's hand as he took the free hand of the elder Death.
Asgore gasped, this was impossible, Death's half breed freak was here?! How?!
The Sealed Gems rattled again, before they shattered.
Judge and Painless joined Death and Karmatic, and each one of them had an otherworldly feel to them....
Wings burst out of Painless and Karmatic's back, joining Death's wings.
Karmatic's were still fluffly, it was clear that the Youngest Death had not reached the age where his wings would naturally emerge.
The Judge towered over all three of them.
"ASGORE, KING OF THE GODS, YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND GUILTY..." The Judge's voice was a whisper that echoed.
"Of what crimes?!" Asgore yelled.
"UMBRA, FRIEND, LIST HIS CRIMES..." Karmatic mumbled.
“The unjust punishments of Innocents, sacrilege of your duties. Following the one that seeks the end, trapping the gatekeepers of the end... the list does go on for so much longer...” Umbra whispered, but his voice was different... apparently, Fate was stepping in. “We have watched you for a very long time, Fallen King of the Gods, but now, you sought even what Gods cannot have.”
"YOU TRIED TO KILL ME WHEN I WAS A CHILD.... YOU HELPED HE WHO STARTED THE CYCLE THAT LEAD TO ME BECOMING A FORCED DESTROYER..... YOU BETRAYED US, ABUSED YOUR POWER..." Karmatic continued.
"OVERRULED JUDGEMENTS ON CORRUPT SOULS.... IGNORED CRIES OF HELP..." Painless stepped in.
"YOU HAVE BROKEN SO MANY LAWS. OF LIFE AND OF DEATH." Death's eye lit up.
"It was my right!" Asgore yelled. "For so long, I have watched that paint user take what was rightfully mine! I am the King of the Gods! This Multiverse should be worshipping me, praising me, not him."
Umbra broke out laughing. It was not a kind laugh, and it was definitely not his laugh.
“You should be begging little goat, for your path leads to absolution of the Soul.” He said, or rather, the nastier Fate said.
‘I should have stayed in my real body...’ Shade thought to himself, as his other self, even if Umbra was free now, was still built from the Fates's power.
"YOUR FATE HAS BEEN DECIDED... ABSOLUTION." The Judge whispered, even as Asgore bellowed and he rushed forwards to stop the Judgement.
But he couldn't move, it was like his own Magic was rebelling against him....
The Judge grinned, even as the floor split itself apart to reveal an ancient looking scythe.
"THE SCYTHE OF ABSOLUTION."
“Pray little Goat, because you have pissed off both of the Fates. And now, your Soul will cease to be in any sense...” Fate smirked.
The Scythe followed over to the Deaths, as if it was choosing who would wield it... It hovered to a stop between Death and Karmatic.
Death seemed to know what it wanted, because he reached out with his and Karmatic's joined hands...
'Dad...'
'It's okay Goth, just follow my lead.'
They grabbed the scythe together before they swung it back.
The blade seemed to be made out of rusted metal, but light started to shine from it, and the rust peeled itself away, to reveal a metal that was just as dark as the Void...
They swung it down, right into Asgore's Soul...
Umbra shivered and he fell to the ground as the Fates released their hold on his body, he winced as he heard the Soul scream.
And then, there was silence.
There wasn't a cracking or dusting Soul.
It was just gone, as if it had never been there....
“My head hurts...” Umbra moaned, and he felt ill... After all, while his body was their strongest creation, he couldn’t contained any spark of either Fate for too long....
The otherworldliness seemed to just slip away from the Deaths and the Judge, as all four of them collapsed.
Grim held a hand to his head, even as he put his wings away, helping the Judge back onto his feet. "What happened?" He asked.
"It was an Absolution Pap." Reaper said, watching as Goth's silver wings faded away and the floor reclaimed the scythe that they had used on the King. "Asgore went too far, and he paid for it."
Goth groaned, his Dad, and the Magic that he was giving him, was the only thing keeping him awake.
"Okay Brother." Grim said, not really realising what he just said. "Wait... BROTHER!"
He was quick to hug Reaper, not really realising that he was hugging Goth too. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, YOU LAZY BONES?! GENO HAS BEEN WORRIED ABOUT YOU SINCE YOU DISAPPEARED WHILE WE WAS ON DUTY!!"
Umbra giggled, Grim was awesome, in either version of this screwed up multiverse.
“You can blame Fate for it.” He said weakly, from the pain raging in his skull, he leaned over and he touched each one of them, giving them a boost of energy.
"Don't you mean Fear?" Goth asked. "He was the one to kidnap Dad..."
Grim then chose that moment to notice that he was hugging two skeletons.
"GOTH!" He put Reaper down so he could hug his nephew. "YOU'RE OKAY! WE WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!"
"Ack! Uncle Grim, you're crushing my ribs!" Goth yelled.
"Pap, put him down, I don't want to be the one to tell Geno why we had to take Goth to a Healer right after we got him back!"
“Fate.. Fear.. It's the same thing in the end, let me dis Fate a little Searcher. I’m mostly free now.. other then probably fixing some codes here and there.” Umbra sniffed, glaring. “Also.. you're all a bit loud, and this migraine is probably about to knock me out.”
Goth was still trying to get away from his rather happy Uncle, he was waving his arms around and everything. He even had a sign above his head with the words, 'Help me!' on it!
A gentle white paw came to rest on Umbra's head, with the soft glow of Healing Magic, and Umbra looked up to see Life.
“Thanks... It's gone from pass out to give me tylanol... which is the best that we can hope for.” he told the Life Goddess with a grin.
He snorted, taking in the family chaos, and shadows covered Ser briefly, before he reappeared beside Umbra.
"Oh, it's nothing Dear One." Life said, even as Goth gasped for air. "And Goth, it's lovely to see that you are awake now."
"Aunt Life?" Goth asked. "How..."
"Your Mother, he kidnapped me so that you could get treatment for your wounds, and your Counterpart explained everything to me Young Man. We will be talking about the missed food and sleep when this mess is over."
The shadowy guardian snickered.
"Moon chocolate?" He asked, holding out a bar to Life, Life was always awesome in his books.
"Thank you." Life took the chocolate.
"You are a kind one, your parents must be proud of you."
Goth grumbled, even as a ghostly Solas appeared next to him, giggling.
"You know, Life can probably see Solas..." Umbra pointed out, as Life needed Light to grow, and if Shades was doing a ghost job, Life would probably see him too. He wondered for how long, he would be able to hear and see Solas like this.
"He's snuck as my version of Cross's Chara now, he's not going anywhere." Goth muttered, even as Solas hovered over to Life. "Hi Miss Life!"
"And who is this Sweet One?" Life asked.
"Solas!"
“Do you mind if Shades takes over here, I need to rest.” Umbra asked... Life may have healed him, but Fate possessing anyone would exhaust anyone... well, it would kill anyone else, apart from him.
"Go ahead."
Shadows gathered and shifted, and a tired looking Shades was sitting on the ground.
“Oh good, no pain in my form.” He grinned.
Life smiled. "Hello Shades."
Reaper floated over to them. "So, you're Shades..."
“Its very nice to meet you both.” He said. “Properly, and as myself.”
He had quite a few run ins with Reaper in the past as Umbra, and he might have traded teas with Life a few times.
Reaper just grinned and he picked up the smaller Goth, before he picked his Beanpole son up. "Alright, these two kinda have somewhere to be, we do need to knock Ink's Soul back into him."
Goth snickered.
“I might have to grab the other Ink, he might still be grounded.” Shades said, coughing a bit, he had been about to release him when he had started going into a creative mode again.
--------
In Outertale, it began to rain, for some unknown reason, and people wondered why it felt like tears....
He looked up at the sky. "Gothy?" Palette asked, even as a tear of his own ran down his face.
"Palette!" Dream yelled, even as he blocked one of the creatures attacking them.
A wave of Ink covered the creature that was about to attack Palette.
Palette turned around to see where, and who, the Ink had come from....
"Dad?"
