Chapter IV - Nick of Time
The van was speeding along the road, ramming through vehicles left and right.
A woman landed in a black and dark orange, almost lava-like cloak. She stood in the middle of the road and tossed what looks to be a metallic frisbee on the street.
As soon as the van drove under the 'frisbee', it detonated, launching the vehicle into the air before it came crashing down, making the front bumper tear off and fly around, the windows were breaking, and doors flew off.
The woman and the other heroes charged towards the vehicle, but it exploded. The van was engulfed in flames.
"Clem, what was that?!" Louis asked, staring at the burnt truck in horror.
"I-I didn't know! I thought he'd be able to get out of there in time!"
"Well-"
The backdoor of the van was kicked off as a robotic figure walked out. His skin was melted off, revealing the bright blue lights for eyes.
"Listen here, Terminator"
"Silence. You did nothing but anger the creator. You'll pay for this, all of you. Starting now." The robot pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Eddie.
An object was thrown, striking the robot's hand. As soon he revealed his hand, a shuriken was sticking through it. As soon as he turned towards the attacked, another shuriken struck him in the head, disabling the bot for good.
"How unkillable are you?" Jessica asked, crossing her arms.
"That depends." The deep-voiced man spoke, approaching her. "How much bad luck do black cats have?" He teased through his slightly broken suit.
"Well-"
"Are you two seriously flirting?"
Kintrell turned towards the rest. "You don't have to stick around, you know."
"I know, but-"
Kintrell tossed down a smoke bomb, having both Kintrell and Jessica disappear.
"...Thanks for saving me, you guys. I really appreciate it." Eddie mimicked Kintrell.
"He's being an idiot. Love while being a hero? Impossible." The woman in red crossed her arms.
"Who the hell are you even?" Eddie crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow at her,
"Does it matter? I mean, your friend is saved and anonymity is always go-"
"Caitlin Tanner."
"What the fuck, Clementine?!"
"Eddie and Louis were curious!" Clem defended.
Kintrell and Jessica were running along the rooftops, jumping off and performing tricks. Well, Kintrell was following Jessica, because he felt something strong in his emotions that told him that something good was based on this girl.
Jessica landed on the edge of the roof, waiting for Kintrell.
As soon as he followed her along the edge. The two stood there together, looking at the mid-afternoon sky.
"You need to avoid me." Jessica approached him.
"Why so?"
"One of us is gonna lose. It's cute, of course, but you think a hero can keep up with a girl who plays two sides?" The woman chuckled, crossing her arms. "Villains have robots and your armor is looking like shit. You're vulnerable by your emotions towards the law. Kinda saddening." Jessica jokingly pouted. "You read too many comics if you think heroes win all the time." She chuckled and jumped off the edge.
Kintrell watched her end up on another rooftop and look back just to see him standing far away. She looked to have a bit of hesitation before she turned back around and started to run off.
The inside of Kintrell's cowl pulled a message up from a family member. "Wassup, Kint, your parents are out of town, so they wanted your little brother to be sent to Michigan until they come back, but since I hear you're doing well in your own apartment, I was hoping you'd pick him up from school and take care of him?"
Kintrell jumped off the roof and unfolded his wings, quickly flying towards the destination. A middle school to play the big brother/babysitter role.
