5. Richard's Will

Grace's POV

Grandpa was right, we can not stop time. No matter how much we want to have that one moment to change it, we have to keep moving forward even if we don't want to.

After my grandpa's passing everyone at Firehouse 51 helped me with the funeral arrangement and memorial lunch after. I asked everyone to just bring desserts and pizzas since I didn't like casseroles or other foods that I didn't need for leftovers. The days got harder but with Brett becoming my new roommate, the pain started to slowly go away.

Herrmann gave me a few weeks off to grieve before I could go back to work at Molly's. My classes to apply for the academy are on hold for right now. I'm not in the right mindset, and it's best to try again soon.

I try to do things on my own while everyone is either on shift or having their own thing, but everyone checks in on me, especially Kelly. He's been kind and understanding since he lost his best friend Leslie Shay. I never met her but after listening to what Kelly had to say about her, I felt I knew Leslie now.

3rd person POV

Everyone is on shift at the firehouse today and Grace decided to come by and visit.

" Hey, there's our girl." Herrmann said and came over to hug her.

" Grace I thought you would be home." Brett said as she was a little surprised to be out of the house so soon, but was happy to see her.

" It was too quiet. I needed to be around familiar voices right now."

" Well, we're glad you're here." Chief Boidn said as he came over.

" Happy to be here. Do you mind if I could make dinner for everyone? I need something to keep myself busy for a while." Grace said

" Knock yourself out kid." Chief Boden said.

Grace soon gets a phone call and quickly answers it.

" Hello? Yes, this is Grace. Uh-huh. Oh, I completely forgot. I'm actually at Firehouse 51, you can meet me there. Okay, thank you. Bye." Grace hangs up the phone feeling exhausted already.

" Everything okay? Casey asked Grace with concern.

" Yeah, that was the family lawyer, he wants to go over my grandpa's will he left for me. He'll be here in a few minutes." Grace sat down at the table as she didn't know what to expect.

" I'm sure everything will be okay." Gabby said as she approached Grace's side.

" I hope so."

As minutes passed, Grace couldn't help but wonder what would happen once the will was announced. Would the last will not be enough to provide for her for the rest of her life? Would the restraining order be voided? Would she inherit anything?

Kelly could see Grace freaking out and comes to her side. " Hey, it's going to be okay. When it comes to stuff like these things are nothing to worry about."

Grace started to calm down as she watched Kelly sit on the other side of her. " You're right. With everything going on I just...I don't know what I'll do."

"Is there something you're not telling us?" Gabby asked with concern.

" *Sigh* About 2-3 weeks before Grandpa and I moved to the city, we lived in Lake Bluff." Grace said as she started talking.

" Wow, those places aren't cheap." Otis said as he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

" Nope. Anyway, I came home from one of our family offices that we own and I found out my parents made an arranged marriage to one of our competition sons once I turned 30 if I wasn't married by then.

Everyone was shocked to hear this and not in the best way. Grace looks over to everyone saying something all at once.

" What?!" Brett shouted

" That's insane. They can't do that!" Mouch said surprised.

" I know. Luckily my grandpa's private lawyer found a loophole, and now the marriage's off." Grace explains more.

" Oh thank goodness." Brett is relieved.

" No parent should ever put their kid through that." Herrmann said that he did not want his own kids to go through.

" That's just the tip of the iceberg." Grace said as she got from her seat and kept waiting for the lawyer to show up.

" What else is there?" Casey asked.

" Grandpa and I filed a restraining order against my supposed husband, my parents, and my older brother DJ. To never come 100 yards near me since we found out about the marriage."

" Well, that was  bold of you." Mills said as he was starting to like this girl.

"  We didn't want to take any chances." Grace said as she started to feel tense again.

" Well if any of those creeps show up, we've got your back." Herrmann said as he wasn't going to let Grace get hurt by them.

" Thanks, Herrmann I appreciate it. It does feel wonderful to have more family members here than I can count." Grace said as she felt lucky to have everyone here for her.

"Well, we're lucky to have you Grace, and nothing will ever change that." Gabby said as she hugged Grace.

" Excuse me, Miss Castle. I'm James Parker. We spoke on the phone." James came over to Grace and shook her hand.

" Yes, of course. And you're here to speak about my grandpa's will." Grace asked as she sat down again.

" Yes, and I will let you know your parent's lawyers are going to have their meetings with your parents in an hour so we need to make this fast." James said as he brought out the papers from his briefcase.

" Why what's wrong?"

" if you don't sign the papers first everything your grandfather arranged that is meant for you will be voided." James explains as he looks over the papers and starts reading the fine print.

" I Richard Arthur Castle here to announce my last will to my family. To my son and daughter-in-law Daniel Robert and Pamela Jean Castle, I leave him the house in Lake Bluff, the vacation house in Palm Beach, and the amount of $400 million. To my grandson Daniel Robert Castle Junior, I leave the sum of $150 million as well as the possession of the family yacht Ruby Rose. And finally, my granddaughter Grace Kelly Castle who has been my pride and joy will own the vacation house in Honolulu, Hawaii, all my accounts and offshore accounts, safe deposit boxes, and the sum...of $1.5 billion."

The house goes crazy with exciting news for Grace. Grace could hear muffled voices since what she had gotten was quite a shock. Grace soon started to feel light-headed she started to faint luckily, Kelly watched her in his arms.

" Grace!" Kelly called out as everyone came over to her side as Gabby went to get a medical kit. Once Gabby came back she used smelling salts to help Grace snap out of it.

" *Groan* What happened?"

" You fainted, let's get you up take it slow." Grabby adjusts Grace carefully and helps her up on her feet.

" James I..."

" Don't worry about it. I would have fainted too. But there is more as well."

" How much more?" Grace asked.

" Once Grace Castle signs these papers, the restraining order will still be intact, and finally whoever falls in love with Grace and not for her money will have my blessing for her hand though there will be a prenup for this marriage. No man will marry my granddaughter for her money if you don't love her then Firehouse 51 will be there to protect her. With that, I say my farewells to everyone. Yours truly Richard.

" And there's a letter for you as well." James gave Grace the letter and she opened it to find it was from her grandpa." Once she reads the letter Grace starts tearing up what her Grandpa leaves her something special.

" What does it say?" Gabby asked as Grace gave the letter to her.

" Dear Grace,
if you are reading this letter means I left this world. I'm to leave you here all alone. My cancer came back and I only had a few months left. I didn't know who I would turn to who would look after you while I was gone, so I decided to bring you to Firehouse 51. I knew Boden was the best person to help you through anything and the crew would help you achieve your goal to be a part of the department. By achieving what you want to do, never stop doing what you love and that's you being the best firefighter in Chicago. I also know one day you'll marry the man of yourdreams and share a wonderful marriage just like grandma, and I use to have. I'm sorry I won't be there to give you away, which is why I'm asking Wallace Boden to take my place. Grace when you find the right man for you, your wedding and honeymoon will be paid for once you set the date at your wedding destination, Disney World. Whoever wants to come deserves to have fun and also have a great vacation. Firehouse 51, take good care of my granddaughter. I leave her in your hands. - Richard."
Gabby finishes the letter and puts it down on the table.

Everyone starts tearing up on the generosity Grace's grandfather gave everyone. Grace tried to dry her tears up but more and more came out as she could hear his voice.

Kelly sure did hear Richard's voice of what he told Kelly the night of Grace's birthday party. " Let her be the first thing when you wake up every morning and the last thing before you go to sleep. If you can't be that man for Grace then you're an idiot and don't deserve Grace, but if you do, love her more than anything else in this world, then you have my blessing."

" Grace if you're ready to sign the papers everything that is promised to you will be yours." James holds out the hard copy to Grace with a pen.

Grace's hands felt a little shaken but takes a deep breath and signed the papers.

" Great, and I need your thumbprint right next to it." James gets an ink pad all set for Grace as she places her thumb on the ink and presses it next to her signature. " Alright, everything is yours. Here are your new accounts, cards, keys to the house, and safe deposit boxes."

" Thank you, James."

" You're welcome, Grace. If you need anything give me a call." James leaves the firehouse as everyone shouts with excitement Grace keeps quiet and finds a place to hide for a bit.

Grace quickly went over to the bunk area and found an open office where she quickly goes inside and pulls down the blinds. Grace could feel her heart pounding out of her chest, but got jumpy when she heard the door knocking.

"Grace, it's Kelly, can I come in?"

" Uh, yeah. Yeah."

Kelly came inside his office as he saw Grace pacing and hyperventilating. "Whoa, Grace it's okay. Here sit down."

" I'm sorry, Kelly. It's just I never thought..." Grace tried to breathe slowly as Kelly needed to distract Grace and got an idea.

" You were named after Grace Kelly? The Actress?"

Grace snapped out of it when Kelly asked her that question but it sure is working.

" My mom thought I deserved a royal name in a family who think they are royalty. It's funny though, I never felt like that."

" Hey don't say that. You are beautiful."

" Kelly don't. You have to sugarcoat me with that comment. I've heard it too many times. I'm sure all the model ladies would be happy to hear that from you." Grace said as she knew no one would ever look at her the same now.

" Hey, those ladies are not you. And I mean it. Your grandpa asked everyone to look out for you and I'm telling you the truth. You are beautiful and whoever falls in love with you will be the luckiest guy in the world. And if he doesn't love you back he's gonna have me to deal with." Kelly said as Grace looked at him as she could feel something for him.

" Kelly I..."

The alarm goes off before Grace can say anything and maybe it was for the best she didn't say anything.

" I need to get going. But we'll talk later. If you need to need rest you can use my bed."

" Thanks Kelly." Grace said as she watched Kelly leave to go out on the job.

Grace had no idea she was in Kelly's office. She looks around his office and sees a couple of drawings from kids that were sent to him which is really sweet. There was something about Kelly that made Grace's heart flutter and butterflies in her stomach. She remembers talking to her grandpa about her and Kelly if she had a shot with him, but needed to take her time since she was still new to the firehouse and just met Kelly.

After a few minutes to herself, Grace leaves Kelly's office heads over to the kitchen, and opens the fridge to see what she can do to make dinner. " Hmm, I think a classic Ham dinner would be perfect for tonight." Grace leaves the firehouse and heads over to the grocery store. Little did she know her life would change forever after this moment.
