Avoiding Him

"I heard they're letting you out today."

Gemma said from her seat next to her niece. [Name] sighed and looked over at Gemma. It was true, they were releasing her today with a clean bill of health -- minus the road rash that was still present on her face.

"Yeah, getting to get out of here so I can go back to no job."

"What do you mean, baby?"

Gemma asked, confused by what the woman meant. She rolled her eyes, knowing that her aunt was playing dumb with her right now.

"There's no way Uncle Clay is going to let me work in the garage anymore. Not after the shit storm my mum brought to the Club."

Gemma shuffled in her chair and sighed, knowing she was right. Laura had went way off the handles this time. She had ended up smacking Clay in front of the Club and he couldn't do anything about it, not that he would have returned the smack, but it hurt his pride.

"You're more than welcome to work in the office and help me. Or work in the Club house. I could always use an extra pair of hands cleaning up after the boys."

"Yeah, no thanks. I've seen the Club after a party. I've heard the horror stories of what the men's bathroom looks like."

Gemma couldn't help but smile.

"That's a job for the prospects anyway."

She continued as she pushed herself up out of bed. She had been unhooked from the heart monitors this morning and had been free to roam the halls as she pleased.

But she had decided to stay in her room and away from Fiona as much as possible. Although Gemma has informed her that Fiona hadn't been in the hospital since yesterday, [Name] still confined herself to her room.

Her last meeting with the woman made her wanna choke the shit out of her. She had gotten all lovey dovey with Chibs -- knowing good and we'll that he had been trying to separate himself from her as much as possible.

And now there was no doubt in either woman's mind that after yesterday, Fiona was trying to pull Chibs back into her life.

"Why don't you swing by and see him before you leave today?"

Gemma asked, trying to get her to check up on him. She stopped at the foot of her bed and looked down at her feet before speaking out.

"Look, Aunt Gemma, I don't think that's the best thing right now."

"And why the hell not?" Gemma scoffed, standing from her chair and walking around to face her niece. "That man risked his life for you -- "

"And I'm grateful for it. But he shouldn't have. If he would have worried about himself maybe he would be -- "

Gemma shook her head and placed her hand on her niece's shoulder as she bent down to look at her fallen head.

"You gotta stop blaming yourself for what happened sweetheart. Chibs wouldn't have done that if he didn't care about you."

Her heart turned and her chest hurt. Hearing Gemma say those words made her want to puke.

"You need to go see him."

She offered again. [Name] just sighed deeply as Gemma pulled her into a hug. Knowing the pain she was going through right now.

Having the blood of someone else's life on your hands, it messed up your head.

And even though Chibs was very much alive, she still couldn't help but think about what would have happened if he would have died. She didn't know if she could go on with the pain of losing a friend like him, someone who had risked his life for her.

"Besides, his wife hasn't been there the last day or so anyway. He needs a smiling face around to help him forget about that bitch."

She couldn't help but scoff at gemma's words, finding them funny that she would even bring up Fiona.

"Even if it's just for a few minutes sweetheart. It won't hurt to go see him."

[Name] sighed, knowing that Gemma was now hell bent on having her go see Chibs. So, no matter what she said she would end up having to see him in the end anyway.

"If my mum comes back and finds me in there with him -- "

She warned causing Gemma to shake her head and scoff.

"I'll send her ass on a wild goose chase. I'll have her looking for the leprechaun and his pot of gold."

They both laughed. Gemma could be so evil sometimes. She loved it.

After her release papers were signed,[Name] went to Chibs's room and peeked in through the window of the door to make sure that Fiona was nowhere to be seen inside. She couldn't see her which was a good thing, all she could see was Chibs laying in bed and the empty room.

She took a deep side before placing her hand down on the handle of the door and turning it slowly hearing the creaking sound of the door as it opened and walking inside.

Chibs turned at the sound of the door and looked at her as she entered inside, closing the door slowly behind her. She leaned up against it for a moment taking in his form before giving him a small smile and pushing her body from the door.

"Hey there."

She said walking over to his bedside and putting her hands on the edge of the sheets as she stood there looking down at him. He looked up for her more alert than he was the first time she had seen him. He gave her a slight smile as he looked at hers.

"Hey. Good ta see ya again, lass."

He greeted her. Her smile widened slightly more as she looked from his toes and on his body to his face. He was covered with blankets and sheets but was still in the hospital gown, a similar one to what she wore.

But now she was in her regular clothes and ready to head home, this was something that Chibs noticed right away is he too looked her up and down.

"Heading home?"

He asked. She nodded her head biting her bottom lip. She didn't understand why this conversation made her nervous, but it did.

Maybe it was the fact that she was able to go home while he still had to be in the hospital. It was a grim reminder to both of them what had taken place, and what he had done for her.

"Well, I'm glad."

He said softly.

"Glad tha' yer well enough ta go home. Ya had me worried sick."

Her eyes widened at his remark. She was shocked to hear him say that. So shocked that without thinking she found her hand over top of his own, causing him to look at her with a raised eyebrow.

"You're kidding me right? You took the majority of the blast, if anybody should have been worried sick it should have been me. Why did you do it Chibs?"

He was silent for a moment as if surprised from her sudden outburst. He looked at her and she looked at him. Her expression was that of shock, the exact opposite of his which seemed unreadable at this moment.

"Cause [Name], yer family and I care about ya."

She felt her bottom lip quivering. She didn't want to cry in front of him. Not now at least. She had been taught growing up the crying was a form of weakness, and she couldn't do that in front of him. She had no right to cry in front of him.

"Ah shite. Don't cry lovie."

Chibs nearly begged. He wasn't for sure if he could take the sight of her crying right now. Between her scuffed up face, and her quivering lip he knew that she was going to make him lose it if she started crying now.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

Chibs's hand was quick to find the back of her neck as he pulled her into his chest slowly. He held her there as he felt her quivering in his grip. She was silently crying onto his shoulder as he held her there and tried his best to soothe her pain.

He had not expected her to visit him prior to her going home. He also had not expected her to break down like she had in front of him. This spoke volumes to him in means of how open she was around him.

He wouldn't forget that.
