Chapter 5- Repressed

The next day, Ryo and Yuki returned to the hospital. They were fortunately able to see Ai. Michiko, on the other hand, was still in shock and could not speak.

As the doctor from earlier led them to Ai's room, Yuki wondered if she would be able to remember what happened last night. He opened the door, and Yuki immediately ran over to hug her sister.

"I'm so glad you're all right!" Yuki said.

"Me, too," Ai replied.

Yuki looked at Ai's left hand. "How's your hand?"

"They were able to reattach my fingers. I don't know how long it'll be before if I can use them again, though. They found them at my house, and they said it took something like 14 hours to do the procedure. Crazy, huh?"

"It'd be crazy if it weren't crazy," Yuki answered with a laugh.

A brief pause followed. "I know it's a bit soon to ask, but do you remember what happened last night?"

Ai sat in her bed, pondering. "I... honestly don't recall that much."

The doctor then chimed in, "I figured she'd say something like this. When something traumatic happens, the mind will oftentimes push that memory into the subconscious part of the brain. Your sister may not recollect anything at all, at least not right now."

"Wait a minute, I do remember a little bit. I don't know if it's much, but all I can think of is the intruder's head. There was something strange about it, something unnatural." Ai then motioned for Yuki to come closer. She then whispered in her ear, "I don't think this thing was human at all. Maybe one of my books can help out."

This confirmed a suspicion Yuki had ever since Joji and his wife's deaths. Plus, if she and Ryo could not figure this out soon, she feared they might be next.
