taehyung woke up on jeongguk's shoulder, the only background noise being snores coming from across the room and the credits of infinity war blaring from the tv.

his eyelids were heavy and he felt extremely groggy, and for just a second he had no idea where he was.

he blinked a couple times and looked around, and then realized he was at yoongi's and the snores were coming from a sleeping "yoongles" himself.

jeongguk was also sleeping, his lips slightly parted and his arm still lightly curled around taehyung's waist while the boy sat up in confusion.

taehyung's first thought was to look for his phone, so he did. he spotted it further down on the couch and grabbed it, checking the time and seeing it was 7:45pm.

another thing he saw was around a million missed calls from his mom.

his eyes widened and he picked up his phone to his ear, not forgetting to slide left on one of the notifications so it called his mom for him.

the phone only rang once.

"taehyung, i've been worried sick! where are you?"

taehyung stood up slowly from the couch and walked away, feet pattering lightly on yoongi's hardwood floors that he remembers the dark haired was thrilled about when they first got installed rather than his ugly brown carpet.

"hey, mom, uh" he began, but then cleared his throat once realizing that he sounded like a smoker from having just woke up.

"me and jeongguk went to yoongi's and ended up falling asleep, uh," he paused again to lick his lips, his severe cotton mouth that he was just now realizing he had becoming unbearable.

"what's going on?" he finally finished, praying his mother hadn't picked up on the one million "uh"s he seemed to slip into that broken sentence.

"there's police at the house here to see jeongguk about his father, and they've been waiting for over 3 hours because you haven't picked up your phone!"

taehyung sucked in a sharp breath, glancing over at jeongguk who was still fast asleep on the couch.

"i'm sorry mom. we'll be right there." taehyung heard his mom start to say something back, but he hung up the phone with a sigh and placed it into his pocket.

he stood still, thinking over everything that was going on at the moment. he closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, trying his best to force away the headache that he could already feel coming in.

3 hours earlier

mrs.kim opened her front door immediately after the knock. a man clad in a obnoxious blue uniform was standing on the other side, and she sighed to herself.

"hello, we received a call about a case of domestic abuse?"

"yes come on in." she stepped out of the way to allow the man in, closing the door behind him and collecting her thoughts.

the policeman looked the place up and down, staring around the cosy home as he followed mrs.kim's footsteps into the kitchen. "have a seat." she pulled out a chair and he sat in it with a huff, and mrs.kim joined him, sitting in the seat directly across from him.

there was a slight pause before anyone spoke, the only sound being the crackling of the policeman's walkie talkie, with words occasionally pouring through.

this silence gave mrs.kim a real chance to study the policeman, noticing the impending wrinkle lines on his forehead, most likely from frowning way too deeply all the time - as he was doing right now.

"so." the policeman grumbled. "who's the kid?"

mrs.kim sighed and brushed a hand through her hair. "would you like anything to drink? coffee, tea?" she blurted, standing up and walking over to her kitchen.

"thank you ma'am i would love some water." he answered, but mrs.kim grimaced at her swift changing of the subject when a policeman asked her a question.

whatever.

"anyways, could you tell me the specifics about the reason behind your call? otherwise i won't be able to help whoever's getting hurt."

mrs.kim sighed for the nth time, realizing he was now treating her like a child who doesn't know how calling the police actually works.

"the kid is around 17 years old and he goes to the high school right around the corner. his name is jeongguk."

the man started writing things down on his notepad, writing so fast mrs.kim was wondering how his writing could even be possibly legible.

he took a sip of his water.

"family name?" he asked, looking up from his notepad with hooded eyes that were sunken in, mrs.kim's guess was a lack of sleep caused his almost frightening appearance.

her stutter was uncontrollable. "um, j-jeon."

at some point she had closed her eyes to avoid having to look into his, so the surprise she felt when she heard a loud noise and realized there was water all over her was enough to nearly knock the wind out of her lungs.

her eyes snapped open, and she realized the policeman had spit out his water, not only all over her but all over the table.

"oh my." she whispered, and the policeman immediately apologized, getting up to get napkins off her counter to clean up his mess.

"im so sorry ma'am, i just could've sworn i heard you say jeon." he chuckled, and went for another sip of water.

mrs.kim immediately pushed down the cup of water, making him look up at her curiously but he slowly put it down.

"i would prefer if you didn't have water in your mouth when i tell you this." she said, voice stern. he nodded understandingly, and pushed the water cup away, urging for her to continue.

"i did say jeon. the boy's name is jeon jeongguk and one day he came into my house with bruises all over himself, said to have been caused by his father."

the policeman's eyes widened two fold.

"the jeon's as in the extremely rich ones?"

"yes."

"now, what was the jeongguk boy doing in your house."

mrs.kim smiled, and laced her hands together under the table. "he's-" after thinking about it hard, she realized her audience probably wasn't the correct one to spill two kids sexuality's too, especially since it's so frowned upon where they live.

"he's friends with my son, taehyung."

"so you're saying that jeon jeongguk, the son of the owner of jeon tech was abused by his father and seeked shelter in your home."

she took a deep breath, holding her fingers even tighter together.

"yes, that is precisely what im saying."

the man looked like he was having an existential crisis, but he wrote everything down on his notepad.

once he was done he paused, setting his pencil down harshly and then folding his arms across his chest. "are you sure that this is what happened?"

"listen sir, i know it's a little hard to believe-"

"no, i believe you. i've seen mr.jeon in person a few times. he gives off the aura, a scary one, and i think i almost peed myself."

"then why are you questioning my words?"

"because all this just made the situation about 20 times more complicated." he sighed, bringing the water cup to his mouth and drinking the rest all in one go.

mrs.kim stayed quiet, not sure exactly what to say. instead she got up and took his cup, placing it gently in her sink.

under close examination she could see her fingers shaking rapidly. but why was she shaking? the police were going to take care of this right?

she couldn't help but feel ominous while walking back to her seat, trying to steady her footsteps.

"mrs.kim, where are your son and jeongguk right now?"

"oh they just went to lunch, i'm sure they will be back soon."

"alright, now is that everything you know?"

"yes." mrs.kim breathed, and the policeman sighed and started rummaging around in his pocket.

"if you don't mind im going to be sticking around here until your son and the jeon boy return. i appreciate the information and your hospitality."

mrs.kim tuned him out, tired of people spewing bullshit for no reason other than because they're supposed to.

her only focus was her foot tapping quickly under the table, and staring at the door hoping two teenage boys would walk in.

"smoke?"

the policeman nudged her on the shoulder and broke her out of her trancelike state. she stared at the cigarette offered up to her sitting between the policeman's two bony fingers, and said something she never thought she'd say.

"i'd love one."
