FIFTEEN
- Chapter Fifteen -
"Jokes on you, stupid bitch."
THE PREVIOUS NIGHT WAS BEYOND AMAZING. After the amusing arrival of James Potter having fallen victim to Sherry's prank and Marlene leading Sherry upstairs to dry her costume, the girls had engaged in a passionate night that Lily Evans had only just missed. She came in the room merely a minute after the two girls had worn themselves out for the night, luckily Marlene had pulled the curtains shut around her bed but she and Sherry still gave each other wide-eyed looks when they heard the door open. Their haze of alcohol had them giggling quietly until they fell asleep.
When morning struck, Sherry had a small headache but she hadn't been drunk enough to forget what had taken place the night before, nervous butterflies fluttering in her stomach when she turned her head to see Marlene sleeping soundly next to her in the bed, nearly falling off of the side. Sherry didn't know whether she should have left or not but presuming that sit would be too much of a hassle to get up and get changed whilst she slept soundly, she just lay her aching head back down and pretended to still be asleep.
She had stared at the curtains around Marlene's bed for a good ten minutes before she felt her stir next to her and became stiff as a board. A small groan came from Marlene and Sherry felt her stretch slightly before she also went still.
"Sherry." She whispered quietly, the girl pretended to stir again and mustering up her tired voice, she replied with a small hum. "Wake up."
Sherry shifted for a moment before sitting up and rubbing her eyes for extra effect, she was in little clothing, making her grateful for the bed covers so that the sober her wasn't worried self-conscious about it. Marlene was looking at her apprehensively, her bottom lip in between her teeth as she stared at her for a moment, tilting her head. Sherry subconsciously raised the duvet higher and Marlene's eyes glanced down to it.
"Do you want some actual clothes?" She asked, the both of them having an awkward air around them as she took herself out of the bed, also just in her undergarments and strolled out of the curtains surrounding the bed.
"Uh, yeah." Sherry shrugged, huffing and hitting her head back against the pillow. "Thanks."
"It's nothing." Marlene said and soft clothes were thrown through the curtains, hitting Sherry's face but she didn't bother saying anything and picked them off of her. "There you are."
"Thanks." Sherry said again, adding to the awkwardness as she changed into the jumper and sweatpants that Marlene had thrown in for her, it seemed okay for a Saturday morning as long as she could get back to the Ravenclaw dorm with little to no one seeing her.
The jumper was grey and the pants black, creating a dark look that went well with how Sherry felt this morning due to her small headache. Putting on the pants, she stared at the bruises on her thighs for a moment before smiling amusedly and pulling them up so the waistband rested where it was supposed too. The jumper slipped on quickly and Sherry gave a small 'okay' when she was dressed.
"Okay, I'm not going to beat around the bush." Marlene pulled open the curtains and shut them behind her once she had jumped onto the bed and sat cross-legged opposite her. "I...don't want a relationship."
"Okay." Sherry shrugged, smiling slightly. Marlene widened her eyes slightly, tilting her head but smiled back at her and let her shoulders relax.
"Oh, phew." She laughed quietly. "As much fun last night was, I don't even know what I'm into at the moment so I kind of want to figure that out before I...you know."
"I know." Sherry reassured, reaching out to pat Marlene's knee comfortingly, she collected her clothes from the previous night in her hands and swung her legs over the side of the bed, carefully tiptoeing out of the curtains to see the rest of the dorm and the other beds.
Marlene tiptoed out too, the both of them making the way to the door as quietly as possible. Sherry stopped by the end of the bed for a moment and slipped her heels back on from the party last night, Marlene waited by the door and pulled it open quietly in order not to wake the others as Sherry walked over to the door with unfastened heels.
"For what it's worth," She whispered as she stopped in the threshold of the door and turned to Marlene with another grin, with her heels she had a couple of inches on Marlene who was bare foot and smiling back. "You were great."
"I'd never done that before." She admitted, rather flattered but Sherry shrugged again and patted her arm before setting off down the corridor and out into the Gryffindor Common Room.
It was spotless, having probably been cleaned overnight. Ilvermorny rooms did the same thing, house elves would come whilst everyone was asleep and clean the castle. It didn't even look like there was a party going on last night, no remnants of what had gone on at all. The rising sun was shining in through the windows and Sherry decided to get a move on so that no one would catch her where she wasn't supposed to be, she supposed that Amber and the others had gone back to Ravenclaw tower at some point.
Amber was either worried sick or passed out in bed, no other option.
Sherry crossed the Common Room with haste and pushed open the portrait, hearing the complaints of the Fat Lady as she walked towards the nearest staircase. Her costume was held tightly in her hands as she went towards it but before she could start down the stairs, a low whistle came from behind her and she froze.
"Well, well, well..." An unmistakable voice said and Sherry rolled her eyes before turning around to see Potter stood there with Sirius, Remus and Peter, an odd cloak thing in his hands and they looked as though they had just arrived without her noticing. "Look what we have here."
The four of them were already dressed in clothes for their Saturday whilst Sherry was still bummed out in Marlene's clothes. Potter seemed to have gotten over his embarrassment of last night and was working on regaining his confidence, he had obviously just finished setting up a prank. Sirius, Remus and Peter were indifferent, they had nothing against Sherry and Sherry had nothing against them but the rivalry between her and Potter guaranteed an unamicable relationship.
"Who's the unlucky guy?" Potter asked, eyebrow raised as he gestured to the costume in her hands and her overall sneaking out of the Common Room. "I feel sorry for him, whoever he is, having to put up with you for the whole night."
"My company said I was good." Sherry shrugged her shoulders, staring right back at him. "Your humiliation put me in a good mood which lead to good things, great things even and now I'm walking back to my common room after a wonderful night of passionate make outs."
Potter scrunched his nose up but she could tell that he was determined not to let her undermine him. The five of them stood in silence for a moment, Sherry raising an eyebrow at Potter and waiting for him to respond as he bit the inside of his cheek and stopped to think, the others were stood awkwardly by his side; Remus was pursing his lips in patience, Sirius had his hands in his pockets whilst he looked around at the corridor they were in and Peter waited for what James was going to say.
"Well..." He finally piped up and looked defiantly at Sherry's smirking face. "I was just surprised because I was under the impression that the only way you'd ever get laid is if you crawled up a chickens arse and waited."
Peter smiled slightly, nodding slightly. Sirius smirked at his friend and patted him on his back as Remus let out something that sounded a mix between a cry and a groan as Sherry's eyes glinted with mischief and her smirk grew wider. For a moment, she stood still before clapping slowly as best se could without dropping the clothes in her hands.
"I bet your brain feels nice and rested." She smiled sweetly at him and he immediately got put off. "It's never been used that much before that insult."
"So you admit that it was good?" He challenged quickly and Remus nervously whimpered once more as both their gazes got hard and they stared at each other with still a good amount of distance that Remus reckoned he could step in the middle if it turned physical.
"Oh, no it was terrible." She said and dropped her smile whilst replacing with a look of small shock. "Absolutely awful but I guessed that was where you were aiming. But then again, I don't know what I was expecting, your aim is as good as your ability of keeping your hair flat."
His hand raised subconsciously to his unruly hair, as if to run it through it but then stopped himself and lowered his hand when he realised what he was about to prove. The cogs in his brain began turning again but Sherry couldn't afford standing around in the hallway when groups of people would eventually come and see her in this state.
"Anyway, bye now!" She waved her fingers at the four of them and turned to go down the first set of stairs, stopping in the middle and turning to call over her shoulder. "I...no, never mind. I was going to leave you with one thought but I don't think you'll have anywhere to put it."
With another trademark smirk, she whipped around again and set off down the stairs before turning another corner into a different hallway below and walking towards Ravenclaw Tower. She was sure Potter was probably whining back near the Gryffindor portrait but she was too occupied with getting out of sight and getting up to her dorm so she could choose an outfit for that day that didn't look like she just rolled out of bed. A hairpiece was needed for today but she was planning on dyeing her hair that night so it would be blonde all over once more.
The rude brass knocker came into view as Sherry turned another corner; she rolled her eyes at it, realising that she was going to have to answer one of the stupid riddles on her own.
"Okay, hit me." Sherry spoke as she stopped in front of it with an expectant look on her face.
"Oh, this will be fun." The knocker murmured and she clenched her jaw at it, shaking her head. "I am the beginning of everything, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end and the end of every place."
"You're fucking kidding me." She stared at it, dumbfounded and groaned loudly. Her groan echoed around the corridor but no one was around to hear it and unfortunately, that meant no one was around to answer the riddle for her. "Uh, some sort of all powerful being."
"Nope."
Frustrated, she put a hand to her head and sighed, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment before opening them and seeing little dots which disappeared quickly from her sight. Although she knew it was no use, she checked down the corridor again and saw nothing.
"God?" She asked, shooting into the dark with a shrug.
"No."
She gave a small laugh, knowing she would have to wait for someone to come along or for someone to come out of the Common Room. The knocker's brass features looked over at her and she wrinkled her nose at it in hatred, it only smiled back. It was a weird to have such an interaction with a knocker but this one got on her nerves like other.
She scoffed once more, patience was a virtue that Sherry did not have the time for.
"The letter 'E'?" She asked with a small, angry laugh as she kicked the wall next to her and to her utmost surprise, the knocker gasped slightly before swinging open with the door, muttering a defeated 'correct' as Sherry stared at the open door in shock.
Another smirk tugged at her lips as she walked past the knocker and as she passed, she leant down to look it in his creepy metal eyes. "Jokes on you, stupid bitch."
"Sherry!"
As soon as she had entered the main Common Room, Amber launched towards her in her pyjamas and hugged her tightly, Sherry letting out a small breath of air before patting the girl's back in greeting.
"Hey, Ams." She said in a small, breathless gasp. Amber got the message that she was squeezing her too tight and quickly let go, instead resorting to standing in front of her with a look that Sherry had only ever once seen on her mother's face. "Before you say anything, I'm going to get changed."
Amber went to argue, but stopped at the sight of the clothes and her knowledge of Sherry's need to be stylish kicked in easily. She stepped to the side begrudgingly and the blonde patted her shoulder on the way over to the dorm staircase.
"We have Quidditch practice today, don't forget." Amber called after her and Sherry waved a hand in her general direction. "So wear something that you can get changed quickly in."
"Okay."
"I'll be waiting down here for an explanation." Amber had the last word as Sherry disappeared up the stairs and she plopped down onto the nearest sofa with a small smile. She knew exactly where Sherry had been all night, she saw her go up to the dormitories with Marlene and presumed she wouldn't be back for the night when she didn't show up at the meetup time they agreed.
It was just fun to tease the teaser sometimes.
