CHAPTER THIRTEEN!

"Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen"

"In every life, there are landmarks," Cory speaks to the class. "What are the historical markers of ours lives? Most important first."

"Sweet Sixteen." Riley smiled.

Cory shakes his head. "No."

"Arbor Day!" Maya replied, her lips curling to a smile.

"No." Cory shakes his head again. "Even Sweet Sixteen is more important than Arbor Day."

"Sweet Sixteen." Riley repeated.

Maya looks to the side, speaking in a low voice. "Arbor Day." TJ chuckled lightly, smiling at her with amusement.

"No," Cory said. "Most important first."

"Sweet Sixteen is the driveway to our driver's license." Riley voiced.

"Riley, you're not even sixteen yet." TJ reminded her.

Riley waves a dismissive hand. "That's a minor detail."

Maya looks at Cory with a smile. "Arbor Day is the doorway to nobody knows what it is."

Cory looks at her with furrowed eyebrows. Riley smiles at her dad. "And college."

Maya looks at Riley with a pout. "You're going without me?"

Riley turns back to her, looking at her with a smile. "No, you're going to the little one next door."

Maya's eyes lit up at hearing that as she smiled. "Yay!" From his spot beside Maya, TJ chuckled a bit and finds himself smiling at the beautiful blonde.

"Farkle?" Cory looks at the brunette-haired boy, hoping he would help him out.

"Birth." Farkle replied.

"Okay," Cory nods and then points at Riley. "Let's go with that because it's not what you said."

"What's next?" Cory questioned.

Smackle grins. "I win the Noble Prize for Physics."

TJ looks at her with furrowed eyebrows. "How is that possible if we just got born?"

Smackle looks at him, the grin never leaving her lips. "Then I'll just wait."

"Our first birthday." Lucas answered Cory's question.

"Okay, birth." Cory nods. "So then, we celebrate our birth every year. What's next?"

Smackle repeats what she said a few seconds ago. "I win the Noble Prize for Physics."

Cory points at her. "Not yet."

Smackle hits her desk with both hands. "Get to it!"

"Our first steps," Zay replies to Cory. "Our first words. Our first day at school."

Everyone groans while Farkle is the only one to cheer. "Yay! The day I met Riley and Maya and Smackle and Lucas and Zay and TJ." Farkle said, looking at his friends with a smile, and each of them smiled back at him.

"Okay, so we get born." Cory said, gaining the classes' attention back to him. "We learn to walk and talk. We meet out friends. Then what?"

Smackle points at him. "You know."

"We grow up which makes us not little kids anymore." TJ responded to Cory.

Zay nods. "It went by fast, didn't it?"

Nodding, Cory looks at him. "It goes by very fast, Mr. Babineaux." He looks at the class. "Your adventures were my adventures not very long ago."

Then Farkle chimes in by saying, "Then we have our various coming of age ceremonies."

Maya looks at him. "Oh, you mean like..." She glanced at Riley, who turned to her friends with a grin.

"I want us to have a Surprise Sweet Sixteen party."

TJ chuckles lightly, shaking his head. "None of us are sixteen."

Maya smiles over at him. "That's what makes it more fun."

"Riley," Lucas gains the brunette-haired girl's attention. "How is it a surprise if we all know about it?"

Maya turns to Lucas with a small smile. "'Cause we're gonna have it now while we're all fifteen and you're twenty-four."

Riley smiles. "Okay, everybody, make a big surprise face."

Each of Riley's friends beside Zay made a surprised expression. They look at Zay after realizing he didn't do it, and he shakes his head. "Yeah, don't do that. And anyway, it doesn't matter. It doesn't count. I mean, it must have been a 'Sweet Sixteen' for a reason. Why? I don't care."

"Well," Cory speaks up. "Now, actually Zay brings up an interesting point."

Zay shakes his head. "No, I don't."

"Riley has an instinct to accelerate the clock," Cory said. "Why do you think that is?"

"Because I want a party." Riley replied with a grin.

Cory looks at her. "Try again."

"Well," Riley turns to look at Zay with a small smile. "'Cause I agree with Zay. We are growing up very fast."

Zay looks at her with a bit of surprise. "What? You agree with me?"

Riley nods. "Yeah."

Zay gasps and then grins. Riley chuckles a bit while Zay nods. "Okay. Yeah, that was fun. Hey, watch this surprise face." He dramatically gasped, showing the others his surprised expression. TJ chuckles lightly along at his expression. Zay shakes his head and smiles a bit. "Okay, only one was fun."

Riley turns back to the front as Cory speaks again. "Okay, so there it is, freshmen. You guys are all gonna be 16 or 17 in your junior year. You're gonna be thinkin' about where to go to college."

"Oh, I already got that one thought out." TJ smiles. "Berklee College of Music."

Maya grins at him, leaning over to shove him playfully. "That's 'cause you're gonna be a famous musician one day."

TJ nods, his smile widening as he looks at her. "Yeah, I hope so."

"Stockholm University," Smackle grins. "So I can be nearby to pick up my Noble Prize."

Farkle looks at her with a small smile. "We'll talk."

"We'll talk in Swedish." Smackle remarked.

"Okay," Cory chuckles while Farkle turns back to the front. "Apparently TJ and Smackle has their lives planned out." He looks at the class. "What about the rest of you? Are you better off letting life surprise you or is there a way to be ready for whatever is gonna happen?"

Riley furrows her eyebrows. "How would that be possible?"

Cory looks at her, smiling slightly. "By looking at the landmarks of our lives so far." He looks at the class again. "Have they prepared you for what's gonna come next? Happy Sweet Sixteen, everybody. Your assignment is to tell me what's gonna happen next."

****

"Okay, let's pretend that we've finished our sophomore year and we're juniors now." Riley said to her friends later that day at Topanga's.

"What's changed?" Zay questioned.

Farkle shakes his head, furrowing his eyebrows with confusion. "I don't understand what could be calculated by projecting the future."

Lucas looks at Riley, gesturing to her and Maya. "You and Maya still best friends?"

"Better than now." Maya replies while Riley replies with, "Absolutely."

Smackle points at the two. "That is a speculation."

"Speculation is not scientific." Farkle said, glancing over at her.

Smackle shrugs. "We can't learn anything this way."

"You and I still together?" Lucas asked Riley.

TJ was a bit surprised at how hesitant Riley was in replying. "I hope so."

"Huh." Farkle and Smackle said.

TJ looks at Maya, who sits beside him. "You and I still together?"

Maya looks at him with a bright smile, wrapping her arm around his waist. "Of course, T."

TJ smiles back at her and kisses her forehead, his smile widening when he notices the light shade of blush that forms on her face.

"Huh." Farkle and Smackle repeated what they said earlier.

Smackle leans over to Farkle, pointing at Maya and Riley. "Riley's confidence in her relationship with Maya is far stronger than her confidence in Lucas."

Farkle nods. "And Maya's confidence in her relationship with TJ is equally as how confident she feels in her relationship with Riley. Maybe even more." He looks at Smackle. "Well, what can we take on this?"

Smackle smiles a bit. "I end up with Lucas."

Farkle looks at her with offense. "Smackle!"

Smackle nods, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, like yelling at me is gonna change the course of destiny."

Lucas furrows his eyebrows while looking at Riley. "You're not confident in us?"

"I'm hopeful for us." Riley responded.

Lucas gestures to Maya. "But Maya?"

Maya looks over at Riley. The brunette sat beside her and TJ, and the two girls smile at each other while saying, "We're forever."

Zay nods. "I believe 'em."

Nodding, Lucas chuckles lightly. "So do I." He looks at the others with a smile. "It's what gives me hope for all of us."

"So, regular friends are stronger relationships than boyfriends and girlfriends." Farkle said.

"Or are those types of relationships that are new to us, we simply don't understand them yet?" Smackle inquired.

"Well," Zay chimes in. "Maybe that's why we take up a whole lot of high school trying to figure them out."

Lucas looks at Riley with a smile. "I'm hopeful for us too, Riley." He offered a hand to her causing her to smile as she placed her hand in his.

TJ looks at the blonde beside him, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "You and me?"

Maya smiles brightly at him. "Together forever, of course." She chuckles. "I mean, we clearly ooze chemistry."

TJ laughs a bit, shaking his head. "You should never say the word ooze again."

"What is that?" Smackle pointed at Lucas and Riley who were now holding hands.

"They know there's vulnerability in that kind of relationship," Farkle said, watching what was happening with confusion. "And yet that happened."

Smackle keeps pointing at the two holding hands. "What is that? What just happened there?" She points at Maya and TJ, who still had an arm wrapped around each other. "And there?"

"Feelings." Farkle responded.

Smackle lowers her arms, furrowing her eyebrows. TJ looks at her with concern when she starts to panic. "How are we supposed to measure feelings? How are we just supposed to know what we're gonna feel when we're juniors?" She stands up, an upset expression forming on her face as she waves her arms around dramatically. "What kind of dumb-head assignment is this?"

Zay puts his arm in front of Lucas. "Get out of the way. She's gonna explode."

Smackle angrily stomps her foot, exclaiming, "I'm gonna fail this assignment!" Her friends look at her with surprise and concern. She stands up straighter. "I'm gonna fail this assignment. Click." She then leaned forward a bit with a blank expression on her face.

"W-What happened?" Zay questioned, glancing at the others.

"Yeah," TJ looks at the dark-haired girl with concern. "Is she okay?"

Farkle nods. "She crashed."

Zay looks at him with confusion. "What, like a computer?"

"Yeah," Farkle replies, looking at Smackle with concern. "It's like the little rainbow wheel is spinning. She'll be back." He looks at Lucas. "Lucas, can I talk to you for a second?"

Lucas nods. "Sure." He followed Farkle outside while Zay snapped his fingers in front of Smackle to get her attention, but Smackle didn't budge.

"Zay," TJ chuckles, shaking his head as Zay stands up and moves over to Smackle. "What are you doing?" Zay doesn't reply, and instead, he stood beside Smackle, snapping his fingers directly in her face. He waved his hand in front of her face, and Smackle still doesn't move at all.

"Maya," Riley speaks up, and Maya looks over at her. "What if we don't care about our boyfriends as much as we care about each other?"

TJ chuckles at Zay, who was making Smackle do the macarena. "Zay, seriously?"

"What?" Zay looks at him with a grin. "It's funny." TJ nodded, glancing at him with amusement. He had to admit, it was kind of funny.

"No, we'll just care for them in a different way." Maya answered Riley's question.

"What different way?" Riley asked her.

"Less." Maya replied.

TJ looks at her with wide eyes. "Wait, what?"

Maya chuckles and squeezes him a bit. "I'm kidding. I meant, romantically."

"Okay, good." TJ let out a relieved sigh. He glanced back at Zay, seeing he was making Smackle do the sprinkler dance move which made him laugh a bit.

Riley sighs. "What do we make friendships if they're gonna go away?"

Zay then pretends to be doing the tango with Smackle, dramatically leading her over to the bay window. Maya takes her arm away from being wrapped around TJ's waist, looking at Riley with confusion. "Why do they have to go away?"

TJ looks back at the girls, realizing that this conversation should probably just be between them. He takes his arm off of Maya and moves over to where Smackle and Zay sat. He chuckles, watching Zay pretend to be talking to Smackle. "You're a dork, Zay."

Zay points at him. "A funny dork."

"'Cause we're supposed to think like juniors now." Riley replied.

TJ leans against the door frame beside the bay window Smackle and Zay sit on and tried his best not to listen in on the girls' conversation, but it was hard when they weren't that far from him.

"So?" Maya said. "What's gonna be different?"

"Well," Riley turns to her. "Right now there are millions of juniors all over the world deciding what college they want to get into."

TJ looked back at Smackle and Zay, rolling his eyes even though there was a slight smile on his face when he saw Zay was still pretending to be talking about something rather enthusiastically.

"And even though they say that they're all gonna be friends forever," Riley continues. "They're all going some place, Maya."

TJ watches Zay with amusement as he stands up, making Smackle stand up as well, and dramatically walks around the bakery.

"We're going to the same college, right?" Riley asked in a hopeful tone.

"Riley-"

"We're going to the same college." Riley interrupted Maya.

"What if I need to go to Europe or something to study art?" Maya questions. "I wouldn't be the only one leaving. I mean, TJ plans to go to a music college in some other country."

TJ looks over at the girls when he hears that and corrects her. "Massachusetts is actually a state."

Maya rolls her eyes. "Oh, whatever."

Looking at the blonde beside her, Riley nods. "You will so get into the same college as me."

"No, I won't." Maya shakes her head. "We're supposed to think like juniors. That's when we know we don't stay together forever."

TJ's lips curve downward at hearing that because he knew Maya was right. He knew eventually they all would have to leave each other since they would all most likely to go separate colleges. He didn't want to leave any of his friends though. He glances over at Zay, seeing that he was making Smackle wave her arms in the air. Rolling his eyes with a small smile on his face, he looks back at the girls when Riley says, "Sweet Sixteen isn't sweet at all."

Riley wraps her arms around Maya while the blonde leans into her side, holding onto her arm. Maya pouts. "They lied to us."

"Okay," Zay speaks up, pointing at the two with Smackle's arm. "You two are the strangest people alive."

"I know someone who might be stranger than them." TJ commented, staring at Zay with amusement.

Zay raises his eyebrows at him. "Me?"

"Yeah, you." TJ chuckled.

"Press any key to continue." Smackle spoke in a voice that sounded similar to a computer's robotic voice.

Zay looks back at Smackle. "Never mind." He let go of her to take her glasses off and puts them on. He then used her hand to boop herself on the nose. Finally, he stood beside her with his hands on his hips when Smackle stood straighter.

Smackle blinks, looking over at Zay with confusion as he smiles at her. "What'd I miss?"

"Well, Riley and Maya are more important than Riley and Lucas." Zay answered.

Smackle smiles and folds her hands out in front of her. "I don't think anybody missed that." Then, noticing his glasses, she points at them. "I like your glasses."

Zay grins. "Oh. I just got 'em."

TJ chuckles lightly while rolling his eyes. "Oh, uh, and we probably won't be together after high school anymore." Zay added.

"Oh." Smackle nods. "Click." She then leaned forward with a blank expression on her face.

Zay turns to her with furrowed eyebrows. "Alright, will you stop that? Who does that?"

TJ looks at Riley and Maya when they say, "Click." The two girls then slump forward with blank expressions on their faces.

TJ sighs, shaking his head as he looks at Zay. "Good job." He sarcastically comments. "You broke the girls."

Zay apologetically smiles. "Oops."

****

Once the girls were back to normal, TJ and Riley, and Maya walked outside to see Farkle and Lucas standing across from each other.

"Are we all gonna be okay?" Farkle questioned worriedly.

Riley smiles. "We always will be."

Farkle furrows his eyebrows, looking over at her. "How do you know?"

"She believes in us, Farkle." Maya replied, smiling at him.

"I mean, yeah," Farkle nods, sitting down at the table along with the others. "But things change. The natural evolution of all things is to grow and change."

"Hey, I know this." Maya smiled, taking a seat between Riley and TJ.

"What kind of teacher is your father supposed to be?" Smackle asked Riley, walking outside to where the five of them are sitting along with Zay. She points at herself. "I'm gonna fail this assignment and he's gonna cost me my Noble Prize. Does he know what he's doing?"

Maya nods, smiling widely. "Yes, he does. Finches and mockingbirds, his boat was the Beagle, and for extra credit, Galapagos."

Farkle smiles. "Charles Darwin."

TJ glances at Maya with a proud smile and a bit of surprise. "I'm surprised yet proud you know the theory of evolution." Maya smiled at him, intertwining their hands together which made him blush slightly.

Smackle looks at Maya with confusion. "How do you know the theory of evolution?"

Maya sheepishly smiles. "Because I failed it. I know it because I failed it, but he made sure I knew it because he knew I'd need it someday." She smiles. "He's a great teacher. He's the best there is."

"And like always," Riley said. "He's just trying to get us to evolve."

****

TJ now hid behind one counter with Zay and Farkle was hiding behind the other. Farkle got Lucas to help him set up something with Smackle sent he has trouble expressing how he really feels about her. TJ and Zay were back there with him trying to calm him down and stop him from freaking out.

"And now, here we are." Lucas said. "Finally alone."

TJ peeked over the counter when he heard footsteps walk in, noticing that Riley and Maya were back from going to Riley's apartment.

"And there's something I want to admit to you." Lucas continued.

Smackle nods. "You're hot for my mind?"

Lucas shakes his head. "No."

Smackle furrows her eyebrows. "You mean you only see me as a steaming cauldron of woman?"

Lucas forms his lips to a tight lip smile while he nods. "Okay."

"Lucas Friar, my heart belongs to someone else." Smackle told him.

"Say it louder." Lucas smiled.

"Must I torture you?" Smackle questioned.

Lucas nods. "Would you please?"

Smackle takes a shaky breath. "I just always say those things because I guess I'm a little insecure that Farkle doesn't really really like me as much as he says, so I guess I'm just trying to protect myself."

Riley and Maya smile widely at hearing that, holding their hands over their hearts. Farkle then stands up from his place behind the counter, putting his hands on top of the counter while smiling at Smackle. "You don't have to, Isadora."

Smackle turns to look at him with surprise. Farkle smiles, nervously putting his hands in his pockets. "I like you exactly as much as I say. It's possible I might even like you more than 'like you'. I don't know. Right now, that's just a hypothesis."

Smackle smiles widely at him. "Based on what?"

Zay stands up, standing beside TJ. Sighing, he points at Farkle. "Should've seen how nervous he was from back here."

"Yeah," TJ agreed, shaking his head. "It was bad."

"I think we're a perfect match." Farkle smiled at Smackle.

"You do?" Smackle asked him, looking at him with a wide smile as he walked over to her.

"Yeah." Farkle nods, taking a seat beside her and Lucas once they scoot over so there's room for him. He holds onto her hand. "Lucas knew how you really felt, but I wasn't sure." He looks over at Lucas. "You can go now."

Smackle looks at Lucas with a smile. "No, stay where you are."

Farkle looks at Smackle with furrowed eyebrows. "Smackle."

Smackle looks back at him with a smile. "You may proceed."

"Lucas set this up so I could really know how you felt." Farkle explained.

"Now you know." Smackle told him. She looks back at Lucas as if that was her way of telling him he can go now. Lucas nodded and got up, going over to the counter that TJ and Zay now sat at.

"Define 'I might even like you more than 'like you'." Smackle said to Farkle.

"I like you so much that when I'm sixteen I'll tell you to go study in Sweden if you really want to." Farkle smiled.

"No." Smackle shakes her head, her smile never leaving her face. "I'm going to stupid Princeton with you." He wrapped his arm around her as she hugs onto him.

"TJ," Lucas said, looking at his brother, who sat beside where he stood.

TJ tilts his head to the side, raising his eyebrows at Lucas. "Yes?"

"Isn't there something you wanna tell Maya?" Lucas asked him, playfully elbowing him.

TJ's eyes grow wide, knowing what he was talking about. He feels his face grow hot as he nods. "Well, I-I mean, yeah, but it's not that easy."

"What's not easy?" Maya inquires, glancing at TJ with concern. "If you have something to tell me, you know you can tell me anything, right?"

Nodding, TJ gets off the stool he was sitting on. "Yeah, I know." He nervously smiled at her and walked over to where she now stood behind the chairs Farkle and Smackle are sitting on.

Once the two are standing in front of each other, he then confesses something in a rushed tone. "IthinkI'mfallinginlovewithyou."

Raising her eyebrows, Maya smiles softly at him. Even though he spoke in a rushed tone, she managed to hear what he said, and it made her heart skip a beat. "R-Really?" She was almost in disbelief that TJ loved her because she didn't think that anyone could love her in the kind of way that TJ loves her.

"Yeah." TJ nods, suddenly gaining a bit of confidence as he takes a step closer to her. He ignores the fact that his heart felt like it would beat out of his chest and that he was blushing. He takes ahold of her hand, smiling lovingly at her. "I think I'm falling in love with you so much that if you want to go to Europe or some other place to study art, then I'll find a music college to go to wherever you go so we can be in the same place."

Smiling softly, Maya blushes and squeezes his hand. "I think I'm falling in love with you too."

TJ's eyes lit up with happiness at hearing that, and he continues to smile at her. "And TJ, that's sweet," Maya continues. "But if you really want to go to Burklee College of Music then you can," She reassures him. She smiles at him. "And I'm sure we can figure our relationship out."

"You're the best." TJ lets go of her hand, pulling her into a hug.

Maya smiles, hugging him back. "Yeah, I know."

"Sweden? Princeton? Europe? Massachusetts?" Riley questions, looking at Farkle and Smackle and then Maya and TJ with furrowed eyebrows. "What's the difference?" She frowns. "You're all going away. Why do people become friends if it's not going to be forever? I don't want a Sweet Sixteen."

Pulling away from the hug, Maya walks over to Riley, looking at her with raised eyebrows. "You don't?"

Riley shakes her head. "No." She looks at Maya. "I don't want any surprises. I don't want anybody going anywhere." She looks back at the others. "I don't want anything to happen to us at all."

"I hate to break it to ya," TJ speaks up. "But that's the opposite of life."

"I don't care." Riley shakes her head. "Nobody move. Nobody move at all."

Maya looks at the rest of the group with a smile. "You heard her."

****

"Okay, juniors," Cory says the next day of school. "How are your lives doing? What's next for you?" He gestured for Farkle and Smackle to come up and explain their lives.

The two explain how they just applied to Princeton early and believe they have a good chance at getting in because they maintained an excellent record. Smackle also added it's because they've cured the common cold, invented an alternative fuel source, and solved global warming. The couple also admits they have feelings for each other they have to figure out because they're people of science and that it might take years to do that.

Next was Lucas and Zay.

"Well, I think that the big news is that Lucas peaked in his sophomore year and now it's Zay time." Zay explained.

Lucas shakes his head, looking a bit upset. "This is not what we decided on."

Zay shrugs, sassily saying, "It is not my fault you peaked. You're over."

"Yeah?" Lucas looks at him with raised eyebrows, smiling at him with amusement. "What happened to me?"

Zay points at him. "Know, you say that a lot now, where you're just like, 'What happened to me?', and I pull you around in your little red wagon. You're like, 'What happened to me?', and I'm like, 'I don't know!'. It's Zay time. Stop bringing me down.'"

Cory chuckles. "So, I'm guessing you've managed to remain friends."

Zay nods, waving a dismissive hand. "That'll never change."

Lucas smiles a bit in remembrance. "I used to have a little red wagon."

"You used to pull me around in it." Zay chuckled and he smiled.

Lucas smiles slightly at him. "Hey, if things ever do go bad..."

Zay playfully elbows him. "I'll be there."

"Thank you, gentlemen." Cory smiled.

"So when did things start going bad?" Lucas asked Zay.

"Oh, the triangle took all the life out of you." Zay responded.

The two boys goes to sit back down as Cory looks at TJ with a smile. "TJ?"

TJ stands up and walks to the front of the room. "Growing up can be scary," He chuckles lightly, shaking his head. "And moving to a new place can also be scary. But moving to a new place can bring a lot of adventures, opportunities, and is somewhere you can meet new people who might even become some of the most important people in your life." TJ explained, smiling at his friends and girlfriend, who all smiled back at him.

"I'm assuming you're still friends with them?" Cory asked him.

TJ nods, not hesitating to answer. "Of course." He smiles brightly. "Each of them mean a lot to me and has helped me out a lot." He looks at Maya with a smile and she smiles back at him. "I know that Maya and I will be together as well. It might be difficult, but we'll work it out."

"I also know that with a lot of hard work and dedication, I'll become a very good musician." He shrugs, smiling a bit while glancing at the class. "And who knows, maybe I'll be famous one day."

Cory smiles. "I'm sure you will." TJ goes back to sit down as Cory smiles at his daughter and Maya. "Riley, Maya?"

The two girls stand up and walk to the front of the class. They explain how they looked at the landmarks of their lives and say how they don't have control of being born. Riley adds that they're lucky to be there.

"And if we get luckier," Maya smiles. "We climb in through the right window."

Riley nods. "Yeah. We examined all of our landmarks in our lives from the very beginning right up until wanting a Surprise Sweet Sixteen party."

"And we found they all have one thing in common." Maya said.

Riley smiles. "They put us in a world full of people, and what we do control is the people that we want to keep in our lives, and a party at any age is just another chance to be all together."

"So, I take it you're not ready for your Sweet Sixteen." Cory noticed, smiling at his daughter.

"No." Riley shakes her head. "Maybe never." She looks at the class. "I didn't want us to go anywhere. I wanted us to sit still. But that's not life. We're freshmen." She smiles. "Exactly where we're supposed to be. We should enjoy this now. That's life."

"Sweet Sixteen will be a lot sweeter when we are sixteen." Maya added.

"But for right now," Riley speaks, glancing at Maya with a smile before looking back at the class. "We're protected."

Maya shrugs. "We know exactly where we're gonna be for the next three years."

"So, no party?" Cory asked them.

"No, of course, party." Maya replied, her lips forming into a grin.

Riley smiles. "What our landmarks have shown us is that we picked the right friends and we'll always be together."

Maya links her arm with Riley. "Life loves us." She looks at the class with a smile. "Hope isn't for suckers after all."

Riley nods. "And that's the best thing to celebrate any time."
