The multicolored lights spiraled in the dark. Red, blue and yellow mingled, barely revealing the sweaty bodies that were rubbing against each other on the dance floor. They were gyrating to the dynamic music that was thumping through the overhead speakers.

Going to a club on a Saturday night was a norm for the cheerleaders, basketball and football players. Saturday was always game night during the basketball season and after a school's victory for any team, they would go to Pie's to celebrate. It was a little ironic club name to think about but it was the town's hotspot.

The school's basketball team was on a winning streak since the start of the season and now they won the high school championship after a nail biting match between them and their rivals.

So tonight was a pretty big deal.

The club mostly held Trinity Vale's cheerleaders who were on the dance floor with basketball players. Some other guys from Trinity Vale who were popular enough to party with the team. And the payers from Queens Valley, they secluded themselves to the other end of the club to avoid getting into any interaction with the county's champions. Some of the players came despite their loss and some came because of it. Pie's was the only joint in the county that served minors alcohol in disguise for mock cocktails. It was the perfect place to drown out their sorrows. Their cheer team had changed out of their uniforms so that they were less recognized, but they still stood out like a sore thumb, some hung off arms of the jocks. Others were drinking and playing a cliché game of truth or drink. Need less to say, everyone was having fun.

Well everyone except Skaii.

She was sitting at the bar on a stool, with her elbows propped up on the counter, her tight cheer outfit still hugging her body. Skaii was engulfed in her own world, staring in to nothingness. She was afraid to join her team, afraid to even drink a beer or even water. Afraid that if she drank too much, Matthew would appear and take advantage of that. She dreaded that he was on the basketball team, and that he was the captain so he had to be here tonight.

She glanced over to where some girls flocked him in the dark corner of the club. He was sharing a passionate kiss with the one was sitting on his lap, the rest of the girls watched him dreamily and patiently waited for their turn. She scoffed, if only they knew what her step brother was really like, they would not even want to change as much of a glance with him. If she had another option, she would never look at his face again. But she was yet to become an adult.

"Skaii Holder." A loud gruff grated from behind. Skaii didn't recognize the voice. She continued looking down at her flattened hand that was pressed against the counter, not turning to look in the person's direction.

"I've been watching you." The voice sounded closer and a large shadow loomed over her. She glanced up from her fingers to the person beside her. It was a blonde basketball player from Queens Valley, behind him stood two boys. They remained quiet, looking to her expectantly. "So, want a drink?" The guy spoke again and like before, Skaii ignored.

"The man asked you a question!" One of the boys seethed, Skaii assumed he was the one who had spoke first. She sighed inwardly, she could see he could not handle the fact that his leader was being rejected. All three of them could pass for easily decent, if they placed their interest elsewhere they were bound to be more successful.

"Easy there Asher." Their leader held up his hand as if so quash anything unpleasant the guy would say. Then turn back to Skaii, "Water then?"

"No thanks." Skaii waved him off and threw a look to his friend, "That little bitch is the only female company you'll be getting tonight."

"What did she just say?" Asher asked, attempting to approach Skaii but the more quieter wing man held him back. And shook his head slowly, indicating that he should let it go. Asher's shoulders fell slightly, heeding to his friend's wish whilst still throwing daggers in Skaii's direction.

The leader chuckled lightly and held his hand up in defeat. "Guess I'll try again next year, when we finally win."

Skaii scoffed, her mood was already sour from his friend's words so she didn't bother to comment on his attempt to lighten the situation. It was only a few moments after that the trio retreated.

Skaii refocused on the glass before her, the sounds around her began to drown out .

About five minutes later, a middle aged woman started wiping down the muck dabbed counter with a damp cloth until she got to where Skaii sat. She eyed Skaii warily before she said, "You handle yourself pretty well. You don't take shit."

"Thanks." Skaii said.

The woman sighed. "You're obvious a pretty girl, each Saturday you come here and stare at the counter. You got problems?" She began occupying herself with shiny a glass mug underneath the counter.

"Look, I really like being alone. Hence," Skaii gestured to the spot she occupied and the empty spaces around it  before she continued, "why I am here."

The woman nodded. "Still, you can't come to a club and expect-" The woman began, gesturing with the hard glass mug she was currently wiping.

"I think you should mind your own business okay. And just do your job." Skaii snapped at her and met her eyes. She felt herself shaking at this woman's determination. Why can't she just be left alone! The anger she felt for her stepbrother began to surface.

"My job is to serve bitches like you drinks, so stop barking out of that pretty mouth and order something." The woman slammed the glass and stared back at Skaii with the same anger she possessed.

Skaii furrowed her brow and bit her lip. She knew her temper would flare up at any moment and the last thing she wanted was any more attention.

"Aunt Pie!" Someone called out and the woman broke the stare she had on Skaii.

"Sweetie, oh my god." She hurriedly ran over to the end of the counter to the person who was calling out to her.

"F**ing old crone!" She flipped the lady the bird, hopped off the stool then headed for the door. She didn't know if the lady said anything else. She really didn't care either.

As soon as she pushed the door open, the warm air that surrounded her depleted and she was exposed to cold city night. The front was filled with parked cars and motorcycles, most of them belonging to the team. She sighed and closed her eyes and allowed herself to relax. Soon, the rhythm of the night made her forget all about what just happened.

She sat down on the floor, without care of the filth around her and stared into the sky. The twinkle of the stars made the the sky looked like a dark blanket with sparkling dots. It was beautiful.

Night time was a favorite for her. In the night, it seemed more peaceful. The night seemed to have more possibilities than the day and it allowed her to shy away from the problems she faced.

Something heavy landed in a thud behind her, shaking her from the peaceful bliss. She quickly turned towards the noise and was instantly locked into the intense stare of the stranger. A very tall stranger, she noted.

His figure loomed in the shadows, almost touching the awning that hung over the club's door. She could feel the energy radiating from him. She couldn't understand the vivacity he emanated. "Are you always so bitter?"

What?

Who the hell was this guy? Anger bloomed red in her again. The last time she checked an absolute stranger was not a good judge of her character.

"Excuse me?" Her eyes narrowed.

"You have to be more specific, I did a lot of things tonight."

"Something tells me that there are many people who don't like you." His tone sharpened as he folded his arm. The door creaked behind them as if someone was bracing against it. He ignored it and shifted his weight from one foot to the next.

"There are many people who will say different." Skaii defended while she rose to her feet. Who did this guy think he was?

"I'm not one of those many people." He threw back, air-quoting as he said many people with a distinct scorn in his voice and took a step closer to her.

"Dude what is your problem, did I steal your boyfriend or something?" She stared up at the stranger that now stood just a few steps away from her, she squinted her eyes, trying to see his face, but the dim light did her no justice. He tried to do the same. He did catch a glimpse of her at the bar, but it was just a glimpse.

"Why did you have to be so rude to my aunt? She was doing her job." He asked.

She thought hard, then realization hit her. The only woman she spoke to was the lady at the bar. His aunt.

"Why is your aunt so inquisitive?" She challenged him again, folded her arms, her stance defiant.

"You're one of those prissy ones aren't you?" He growled.

Suddenly a car turned into the parking lot of the club. The piercing white headlights illuminated the surrounding. Their eyes were locked together, but it was no longer in anger.

They were in awe.

Skaii realized that she was just standing there, starting, with her mouth hanging open. So she tried to pull her gaze from him but found that it was harder than she hoped.

Finally, her gaze faltered, she cursed herself for how hard it was to look away. He was a complete stranger. He was getting on her last nerves a second ago. But with just one look at his face, she was silenced.

He cleared his throat and spun on heels, and headed back to the door. "One day someone will teach you a lesson." He said over his shoulder and pushed the door open. She scoffed, staring at the door as it closed with a frown. No one else has ever stirred up her mind like he just did. And he was only speaking for a brief moment.

No matter how handsome he was, she wanted him and his attitude far away from her. After a few minutes of mulling over what just happened, she began walking away from the club.
