"I am so excited for the dance tonight"

Hazel said.

"Who isn't excited?"

Clover asked with a grin.

"Probably someone who doesn't have a date"

Alex said with a laugh causing the girls to laugh with her.

"Hey look, it's Ruby. Ruby over here!"

Rachel yelled calling their team captain to the table. Ruby slowly made her way to her friends before sitting down.

"Hey, what's the matter Ruby?"

Melissa asked noticing she was quieter than usual.

"Nothing it's just well, last night I got this weird text from Tea"

She said taking out her phone and showing the text from last night.

"I wouldn't worry about it too much"

Lana said

"Yeah besides if Tea does or says something to you, just let us know and we'll take care of it girl"

Clover said nudging Ruby causing her to smile.

"You girls are right, I mean what's the worst that can happen"

She said

"She might give you a friendship speech"

Denise said causing everyone to laugh.

*School Dance*

"Alright everyone, you know the drill once Yugi comes in, I will give you the signal to flip over the signs"

Ruby said to the crowd of students that gather together in the gym where the dance is taking place. Soon the gym was filled with lights, music, food and drinks. Ruby happily waited patiently to see Yugi but a few hours we're going by and he still hasn't shown up. Ruby kept a brave smile on her face as she continued to wait.

"Hey, here he comes"

Rachel said to Ruby. Ruby nodded as she made her way to the entrance to meet with Yugi who was wearing a black tux.

"Yugi"

Ruby said getting his attention over the loud music.

"Hi"

Yugi said with a slight smile.

"Yugi there's something I want to show you, come on"

She said tugging on his hand to the center of the whole gym.

"Ruby wait, there's something I wanted to tell you"

"Can it wait?"

She asked raising her hand to give the signal.

"Not really"

He said sadly looking down.

"Well what is it?"

She asked.

"I don't think we should be friends anymore"

He said at the same time Ruby snapped her finger causing the students to flip over their poster boards. Yugi shook his head as he moved his hand away from Ruby leaving her in shock. The music died down and the lights were turned on as everyone became quiet.

"I'm sorry"

Yugi said walking away from Ruby. Ruby remained quiet before feeling embarrassed as everyone looked at her. She slowly backed away to the far end of the gym before making a run for the girl's restroom. Soon the gym was filled with laughter from everyone except for the cheerleader who quickly followed their captain.

"Where did I go wrong?"

She cried as Rachel embraced Ruby.

"It's okay"

"I have never been humiliated before!"

"You deserve someone better"

Samantha said stroking the top of her hair.

"Yugi just doesn't know what he's missing"

Alex said comfortingly.

"He rejected me in front of the whole school!"

Ruby shouted as she wiped away her tears.

"It's okay Ruby, it's not the end of the world"

Clover said

"It is for me. How can I be so blind? I should have seen the signs"

Ruby cried.

"That's enough Ruby, you can't hide yourself from everyone. This is a special night for you, so what if it didn't go as planned, you have to man up and face this head on"

Justina said

"But how can I?"

Ruby said looking at her friends causing them to get quiet.

"This is just one bad day, there will be other days but you just have to ride it out"

Alex said quietly. Ruby closed her eyes before nodding in agreement.

*Next Day*

Ruby had her head hanged low as she walked down the halls as students walked past her laughing or whispering about her. Ruby soon made it to her classroom where a few students were already in there laughing as they saw Ruby.

"Don't you have something better to do"

Said a voice causing the students to get quiet as they quickly exited the room.

"There you are, now why are you avoiding us?"

Rachel asked Ruby as the girls surrounded their Captain's desk.

"I just wanted to be left alone for a while"

She said with her head low.

"Look we don't even have to talk about what happened last night okay, but we're your friends, we want to be there for you"

Denise said with a comforting smile. Ruby lifted up her head with a slight smile.

"You girls are right"

She said.

"Now come on, they're still serving breakfast and I am hungry"

Hazel said rubbing her belly. Ruby stood up from her seat.

"I'll catch up with you girls later"

"Now what?"

Clover asked.

"There's just something I have to do"

She said with a reassuring smile.

"Alright then, see you in a bit"

Alex said as the girls headed to the cafeteria. Ruby's smiled down as she noticed her friends were away. She then made her way to the gym to speak to her coach.

"Coach, can I have a word with you?"

Ruby asked as the coach nodded to her.

"What can I do for you Ruby"

"I want to quit the team"

She said confidently.

"Is that what you want?"

"Yes"

"Well alright then, the position will always be open for you, but if you need a break then that's fine"

She said leaving Ruby alone to her own thoughts.
